And she will lay it on the line as to how older folks feel about moving with their kids "help". Her crew did a great job packing up. Only one item was broken getting to the destination. They pack very carefully. I am impressed. They guys Katherine contracted to drive the stuff to Austin from Alvin were AWESOME and I believe underpaid for the hours they worked. I told them to ask more and gave them each an $100 tip. They were fast, efficient, careful and respectful. I would hire them again if I ever needed them and knew how to find them. So why ok.... We were to either have an estate sale or have a person some and pick it up for resale. Since we were moving to another location which was smaller of course we picked the best of the best. But there were still things left that had value if sold appropriate ly. Apparently she has only one resale person and something happened between packing and selling the stuff. We were forced into a donation situation. And even though pictures of all the stuff good for resale were taken during the process we were never able to obtain copies from Katherine. For our donation, 3.5 trips in a trailer to DAV, we recieved one receipt from the DAV and a couple of other receipts from someone else's move or donation at another time of the year. So we have left with little to report on taxes without having pictures to turn in with the loan receipt. And frankly if we had any idea it was going to work out that it was all to be donated we would have built in more time to allow friends and relatives to come get what they wanted. There were a few things we would have taken too. The other issue we had were the appliances were to convey. The washer and dryer were donated. Katherine did find replacements - whew! But it sure was alarming and worrisome. Cleanout. It was kind of oversold. Even though the girl did a really good .... great job, Katherine told us it would look practically new as the walls and everything would be wiped down. Well they were but it should have been tested first... when the white flat paint was wiped it just smeared grey around. That is the really the only thing I was unhappy about. And I bet she tests the next time. Would I hire Katherine again? Probably so. I'd know what to expect. I would put padding in for things not being sold to be gotten rid of in a more acceptable manner. And I would probably with hold pay until I got good documention. I should have held out or reduced it by a percentage. You want the people doing the work to be paid. I did like Katherine's personality. She was pushy but in a good way...imo...

What more could a person possibly want?! Laura U is definitely not Target or Ikea, so be prepared to shell out for the hipness. Laura U's primary gig is interior design. If they design anything like the decor in the boutique, you're in for a wild and contemporary, but very tastefully put together ride. During construction of our home, we have interacted with several vendors and businesses and Liz…read moreCrider (HAD owner) is hands down the most unprofessional and inexperienced. We approached Liz because of her Google reviews, (which I now must question the validity of those reviews), and she was paid a deposit to design our whole home. In the span of over one year, Liz never requested a face-to-face meeting or video meeting to get to know our design style. She never asked us a single question either verbally or in writing about what colors and fabrics we like or what to avoid. She never asked if we had pets or children or how we will use each space. She simply went off on her own and designed our living room based on photos we pinned on Pinterest. The designs required multiple revisions and hours of our time to get it to a state where we felt we were just okay with. Then came the estimate. Liz submitted a bill of $18k for our living room, but would not provide any details on where the products would be sourced, what fabric would be used, warranty information, reviews, etc. We were expected to hand over that amount of money with no guarantees we would be content with the items purchased, and, she only allows two returns per room. She was also tasked with our primary bathroom, which turned out to be another disaster. She never made one trip to the house, and she asked us, her customers, to take measurements of the bathroom and provide them to her. Her initial designs for the bathroom were confounding. It was a mix of tiki bar meets the Golden Girls. Again, we went through the same exercise of hours of input to get a somewhat okay design. This is when we realized we were doing her job. She purchased all of the items, had them delivered to our current home, and charged us her design fee plus cashed in on her trade discount. In addition, she relied on us and our GC to pick up orders and I had to coordinate all deliveries. At this point, we decided to cut ties with her because it was obvious she was in over her head, we were handling all logistics and her design aesthetic was not in line with what we envisioned. Perhaps Dorothy or Rose would appreciate it. We were stuck with the items she purchased ($9K), and we discovered that ALL of the bathroom fixtures are various shades of brushed gold. None of the items she ordered would work and it was a waste of money. When approached with our concerns, Liz lacked the business acumen to listen to our concerns and make things right. She wanted to retain 100% of the deposit for the whole house even though she worked on two rooms. When asked why she never requested a meeting, she responded with "I don't make friends with clients". Making friends was never my intention, but creating a thoughtful design was. One last point to her lack of engagement is that to this day, Liz does not know my husbands name and refers to him by his gmail handle despite being on multiple calls with the both of us. Do yourself a favor and research/interview interior decorators before deciding to go with HAD. I really wish I had performed more due diligence. This would have saved me a small fortune and a good amount of frustration with someone that is in the wrong business. **Everything stated in this review is documented in email exchanges with Liz Crider.**

We recently moved into an 8-year old home that was very boring, all builder grade decorations/colors, and my wife wanted to do a facelift on living area, kitchen, gameroom and two bedrooms. We interviewed several interior decorators, but The Design Firm won our business due to their incredible professionalism, creativity and the attention to detail was palpable. We had a series of meetings with designer, Jenn (cant remember last name), and even Kara (the owner) participated in some of our meetings. They even created an artist rendering of what we could expect with the finished project which was icing on the cake for a husband with no vision! The total project took about 3 months and they handled everything from choosing the final colors, ordering furniture, light fixtures, and paints, completed install in a timely fashion, but always alerted us of timeline of project, including one delay due to item being on back order. My wife really wanted project complete in time for a special party and The Design Firm worked diligently to make sure project was complete in time for party, communication was outstanding and helped relieve wife's stress. I HIGHLY recommend The Design Firm to make your visions become a reality, I am now a true believer in having an outside interior decorator handle your vision, and our finished project is stunning and gets compliments from all of our guests! We are now planning a second project with The Design Firm to overhaul our outdoor patio and master bedroom/bath, and I am excited to see what their creative minds have in store for us. Cynthia was very knowledgeable and patient with me. The guys that did the work were all very nice and I felt comfortable having them in my house. It was a fun experience seeing my kitchen design come together even better than I had imagined. I went from having a kitchen that didn't function and was so ugly to a beautiful kitchen that inspires me to cook and have friends over to hang out around the island. I look forward to doing more projects with One Design Place in the future!
