Have lived in the Morris area for 5-1/2 years and have told myself many times I needed to stop in and check out the Morris Bakery, but just hadn't gotten around to it yet...and was kind of afraid I'd like what I found and add one more high-calorie temptation to the list. Had friends in town this past weekend from Chicago and one of them woke-up early Sunday morning with a craving for donuts, searched on Yelp! and found Morris Bakery, and returned to wake the rest of us up with the most delicious donuts I've had in years. I still haven't been into Morris Bakery myself, but having polished off a half dozen of these myself, I can attest to their goodness...so much so, in fact, that it may be best if I never set foot in the place myself :) read more

This place very well might have THEEE best glazed donuts I've ever had (and much to my own shame, I've had a LOT of donuts in my time). The customer service was outstanding, the aesthetic was wonderfully quaint and I wish I had more room in my stomach for more of their delicious treats. Phenomenal tasting and textured baked goods, even without added sugar/frosting! Pre-order if you need to avoid added sugar/frosting on large baked goods, but not currently an option on individual sizes. Cinnamon roll breads, brownies, and fruit Danishes are incredible. Coffee cake taste great too, but slightly skimpy on fruit. Store hours are a bit inconsistent, but it's hard for small independent businesses to find staff now. Adding good handmade coffee would really boost profits to hire more staff to consistently open/close. Selection varies widely daily, so disappointment about not finding desired product is offset by opportunity to try great new ones. Owner donates leftovers to non-profits & nursing home staffs, keeping great baked goods out of landfills. read more

Today, 3 hrs before my order was to be picked up - they had a teenager call me to tell me that the lady that was to make my "3" cookies on a stick left sick and didnt make them!!! This is my Granddaughters 1st recital so it was pretty important. They offered to to sell me 3 cookies in a bag and when I asked if those cookies were made yesterday she said no, today, so then why couldnt they have made my PRE ORDERED cookies on a stick today too??? Stopped in there on a Sunday morning to get a coffee cake for a breakfast I was hosting. Got there about 7:20 am (opened at 7) only to be told by a girl behind the counter that the two trays (yes I said 2) of donuts were all they had right now but there would be more in a bit. I asked if there would be coffee cakes. She said maybe he will make some later. WHAT? Maybe he will make some later....on a Sunday morning? Left and watched 2 other people that came in after me walk out empty handed as well. If I would have know this I would have drove to Joliet to Home Cut Donuts or to Weber's Bakery on Archer to get some of the best pastries in the state. The worst bakery I have ever been to. The decoration on the cake looks like a kid did it. I asked for whipped cream and gave me buttercream. I never seen a cake custom made be put in a foil pan. Great small town bakery. The Pączki they make on Fat Tuesday are wonderful. This year though it was quite hectic on Fat Tuesday. There was a long line out the door and down the block at 5 am ! I suggest that to speed up the process on that day, all prepaid orders form a separate line so they can get in and out quick. Also, this year they seemed to skimp on the strawberries, and the dough tasted like it might have been made 2 days before. But still delicious. Just want to say that myself and a few people that I spoke to noticed. read more

The donuts here are fantastic, especially the Chocolate Long Johns and their Dots with the frosting in the middle. Just be sure to get there early in the morning, because they run out quick! Decently priced too, but not a whole lot of sitting room so get em on the go. read more

If you have never had a Morris Bakery donut you have not lived!!!!! They are by far the best treat! I was working in Oswego and brought along a dozen donuts and their famous cinnamon bread. In a salon of over 20 girls there was silence for once!!! Definitely a must try!!!!! read more

Bad service! I was visiting family, and whenever I'm in Illinois I like to head to Morris. The shops and restaurants are cute, and remind me of my childhood. However, I think we came on grumpy day. We had bad customer service at Corleones and at the Morris Bakery. I was so excited to bring my husband in for a maple bar. I've told him about them before! Everything was picked over, and when my husband asked if they had maple bars the girl behind the counter said rudely "those are maple bars" very cocky. The maple bars have a very white frosting, so a new customer would never realize they are maple, and they weren't labeled. THEN, my 2 year old son asked for a cookie, and said thank you. She didn't reply. I noticed when we left that she was pregnant, maybe she was having a bad day, but I can't believe she didn't even acknowledge my son when he said thank you. How rude! read more

I'm giving this business one star for pure lack of professionalism. I've purchased my cakes for the last 7 years from this bakery (not to mention graduations and birthdays for different generations throughout my family), I'd say 4 outta 7 times recently I'd say I've been very happy. Recently I ordered a cake and asked if I could email them a picture I'd like printed on it, they gave me the email and about 10min after I sent it the same day I called. A few days later I go in to pick up my cake, the girl behind the counter opened the box to see if I liked my cake, as I looked, the picture I wanted on there was not on there, it was a freehand drawn face of who I wanted printed on the cake and no details as to how I wanted it. So I said this wasn't what I wanted, she offered me half off. Again, I've never not once have complained, but after I left it really bothered me that my cake was completely wrong, so I called. I was very nice on the phone, expressed that I'm upset and I'd like to please have a manager call me. A week later, I still never received a phone call, then I receive a screenshot of what looks like the bakers personal Facebook page of the picture of the cake with a statement made that the "lady" hated her cake. So after again, being upset I thought I'd go to the bakery to talk to the baker to express that I didn't hate her cake, it's just not what I wanted. As I walk into the bakery I asked the girl behind the counter if I could speak with a manager, she goes to the back and says she is busy frosting, can she write down my number, I told her I tried that and I never got a call. So, the baker decided to come out, to tell me she isn't talking to about it, that she feels I should have paid full price and she feels I owed her $15 and that I needed to leave, nope, to get out. She raised her hand pointed to the door and told me to get out. Again, I didn't even get a full sentence in, I said I'm sure you know why I'm here...and I got that response from her. I was completely dumbfounded by how I was just treated. I never came in with ill intentions, I was trying to be nice and say hey, maybe check the email so this doesn't happen to future customers. Absolutely disgusted with my treatment and hearing from a lot of others, they have had similar situations. When you have a dissatisfied customer, regardless of how you feel, you should hear them out and be respectful. Your in a business, if you can't handle criticism on your work, your in the wrong line of business. Being basically the only bakery in this small town is the reason why they get a lot of business, I'm not disregarding that they have good baked items, but the lack of professionalism and being that this is a small town, I hope that this brings some awareness and we maybe choose a better location that appreciates and listens to their loyal customers. read more

Tried to call three days in a row, nobody returned call. Everyday I was told my note was still up but "cake person" not in yet. On the third day i called again at which point I was told they did call me and talked to me that morning. They actually argued with me when I told them no such call took place. The cupcakes were fantastic BUT the chocolate m&m cookie and the frosted sugar cookie was disgusting!! They were dry and just did not have a good flavor at all! Service was so-so, the lady behind the counter didn't seem interested at all and there were flies in the cookie display case. I doubt the owners of the bakery are concerned with negative Yelp reviews because they know they have the best donuts, eclairs, cakes, breads, etc. in the entire country. Krispie Kreme lovers have NEVER had a really good glazed donut! That being said - be aware that their store hours are extremely flexible. Just because their Face Book page, Yelp listing and the DOOR of the building says they are open at 5:00 am during the week, doesn't actually mean they OPEN at that time. Or that they will answer the phone if you call them from a spot right in front and can see them checking the caller ID before they answer (or don't.) Or that they will have sufficient varieties available. Or that they will have coffee ready or brewing at that time. On a recent trip to Morris, I made a special trip at 5:00 am to the bakery to get goodies for the ride back to Virginia. Not open, nor would they answer the phone. Finally opened the door at 5:45 am with only glazed donuts to offer. No honey buns and when I asked if they'd be ready soon, the girl who waited on me just shrugged and said maybe. When I asked about some coffee, she just said "no." The bakery goods they make are addictive and I'm sure my resolve to never go back will not last, but their customer service is among the worst I've ever experienced and they should know better! read more

I've ordered my children's birthday cakes from here for a couple years now.... I just ordered a 1/2 sheet the other day and I will never again go back. They charged me $65 ahead of time for only a 1/2 sheet then we went to cut into it and it started falling apart. We found icing holding some of the cake together. One side was higher then the other and half of the chocolate side there was the same amount of icing as there was cake. It was suppose to be buttercream and it definitely didn't taste like it. It had a gritty whipped taste. Absolutely disgusting! My grandmother who use to make cakes and goes to try every bakery she can said it was the worst cake she's ever had. We had 40 people and after some people stopped eating it because it tasted bad nobody else wanted any so we have more then half of a half sheet left. Which will be going in the trash sadly. Normally the half sheets we order for my kids birthday party are always gone. I'm not sure what's going on with this business but it's sad they've went up in price (or I got over charged for this cake), the looks, quality and taste have went completely down hill. The cake I ordered was only ok. While cutting it the cake seemed dry, since it fell apart, but was not dry. I feel like I could have gotten the same thing from a grocery store. I guess I expect a bakery to WOW me. The last cake I bought was from Costco, and received may more complements from guests than this did. Service was good. But note, they only take cash. read more

On 12-19-16 I ordered a half sheet cake for a Christmas birthday. I knew I had to pick it up few days before Christmas because they were going to be closed for the holiday. I sure didn't expect the cake to look or taste like it did. It was decorated with a large decorating tip & it was very sloppy looking. The cake itself was dry & didn't have much taste to it. The frosting was ok but nothing to brag about. After paying $45, I did expect to be satisfied but wasnt. Will never order a cake from there again. read more

I love everything here! Donuts, coffee cakes, cinnamon bread, and the potato rolls are all great. I don't miss a holiday without having a couple dozen potato rolls. The left over rolls are great the next day for ham or turkey sandwiches too. Order early for holidays. I have yet to have their cakes or cupcakes, but I hear they are great as well. Most people take out, but if you want to enjoy your donut on the property there are a couple of small tables that sit in the windows. The recent paint remodel is darling. read more

I got cookies quoted at the bakery for my daughters birthday. When I went to pick them up I was charged a extra .50 per cookie which ended up to be $16 dollars. When I asked the owner "Lauren" about it she was rude and told me to enjoy Walmart donuts for now on. read more
