Joan is an amazing breeder to work with and her Shiba Inus look amazing and are pretty smart. We got a male puppy recently, the puppy was amazing, super smart and sweet but because we live in an apartment we had to return the puppy. This was mainly because he had a lot of energy and we were making a lot noise to tire him out so our neighbors were not quite happy about it. Joan helped us relocate the puppy to a new home where the new owners have a house with a backyard which is great for the puppy. Needless to say she fully refunded us, which is what she had in our contract besides a few other important clauses that we came to appreciate at the end. We miss our puppy so much but we are grateful that we worked with Joan who takes a really good care of the puppies and customers. If I could give Joan more that 5 star here I would, but I can't so I took the time to leave this review here. read more

Joni didn't have a yelp when I wrote this ;) I will give an update soon too ;) Joan Morningstar is the most amazing dog breeder (Shiba Inu) I have ever met! I bought my dog Bravo from her 6 months ago and it was the best experience I could have ever asked for. I was looking and looking and looking for a Shiba Inu. First I looked on pet finder to see if there was one on there for me. They all had so many issues I decided it would be best to go with a breeder. Then began my hunt for a breeder. I found one right here in the Seattle area. (Redmond) I heard mixed reviews about her dogs though. Then I found another in north Idaho, but there dogs looked funny and some of them didn't even have the almond shaped eyes, that can't be good!!! Then one of my boyfriend's friend's girlfriend recently bought a shiba inu puppy and said the was the best experience she could have asked for. They invited us over & I got to play with her puppy & talk to her about everything involving the dogs & Joan. Naomi (the girl who bought the puppy) and her boyfriend even stayed the night at Joan's house. They saw how the dogs were kept & how she treats them. She knows every dog by name & said her place was immaculate. She has a routine that she does every day & they thought she was fantastic. I called up Joan to talk to her about getting a shiba. I wanted a red one & oh boy, I might be bias, but I am pretty sure I have one of THE best looking shibas ever!!!! Let me explain how I acquired him... Joan's policy on selling her dogs is AMAZING!!! She wants not only you to be happy, but her dogs as well. She said no matter what, she is that confidant in her dogs that she has a money back guarantee. You both sign a document for proof on the $ back bit. My boyfriend and I have another dog & she is 50 pounds. So we decided that going with a teenage dog might be best & she said she had "the perfect one for me". He was sold as a show puppy, came from a litter that are all champions. He came from a long line of champions as well. Unfortunately for his old owner who was going to show him, his teeth grew in a bit crooked. His imperfection is the reason I have my perfect dog! So his old owner shipped him back to Joan, and Joan sent her a new show puppy. My dog Bravo is one of the best things that has happened to me. I don't have children (yet). Bravo is my baby. Best dog ever! He is the happiest, smartest, friendliest dog you could meet. Loves people, children & all other dogs! Not to mention he is so cute!!! Also, Joan met me in Salem, OR so that was the half way point for both of us. I also bought $200 worth of stuff from her when we met with Bravo. She has any & everything you would need when getting a dog & she sells it to you, the same price she got it for, wholesale. Saved me so much $$$ Thanks Joni!!! No joke, bough a crate, brushes, collars, leashes, doggy toothpaste, a flexi, toys, she had everything!!! THE BEST BREEDER WE COULD HAVE ASKED FOR! EXPERIENCE: From the very first inquiry, we could tell Joan knew everything she was talking about. She could tell you endless facts about the breed and naturally gets you excited about the quality of a puppy you're getting. Which, she, by no means, was exaggerating. We're from Southern CA l and she was nice enough to do a FaceTime call with our little Sumo when I called her for the first time to inquire! We were able to see him play with his friends and get a glimpse of his personality. We were in LOVE. THE PUPPY: Yes, he was 16 weeks. No, we don't regret not getting an 8 week old AT ALL. Sumo was the perfect age. Joan has already potty trained him, and he's had all his vaccinations. Still learning, still young enough to have that bond, but old enough to stand on his own and actually know what we're telling him. In the first hour, he already was responding to his name. We went straight to a hike, took him off leash and he followed us. We don't need to carry him everywhere which helped a lot since we were doing a lot of hikes on our trip. NOW: Sumo is now almost 6 months old and anytime I have questions, from what to feed him to what kind of shampoo to use, Joan is ALWAYS there for support. Joan Morningstar is a premier show dog breeder who has cherished and improved the Shiba Inu breed in the US during the past 25+ years as much as one person possibly can. She has won numerous championships with her beautiful Shibas and deservedly so. She has been the number one breeder in the US obsessed with obtaining new show-dog bloodlines from Japan via her countless trips there. Since she has unselfishly made these new bloodlines available to other breeders around the world, they have benefited as well. Subsequently we all benefit. So you get the picture, she's all in for Shiba Inus. If you are lucky enough to be selected by her to get one of her dogs, either for showing or simply as a pet, you are going to be tremendously rewarded. Five stars is not enough. So be forewarned, if you are not capable and committed to being a totally responsible Shiba Inu owner you may not obtain her favor. People with simple passing fancies from watching cutesy online videos need to do some serious soul-searching before approaching her. She will even find new owners for your dog (from her) if things don't work out but of course, she wants to avoid this situation to begin with. Now that's commitment. We were fortunate to get two gorgeous pups from the same litter, a male and a female red (with black tipped hairs) that we are awestruck by. Not only are these dogs beautiful in color and proportion, they have outstanding temperament bred into them as well. That's what makes Joni's dogs over-the-top. I know this personally since I've obtained Shibas puppies from less-desirable sources that looked pretty and cute but later had personality difficulties as adults that were already bred-in. That's a tough situation to be in years later that you want to avoid with this dog breed in particular. Here's a happy example; the very first night (@12 wks old) our two new pups slept between the two of us all night long without even a whimper. Extremely affectionate as well. For puppies that are adjusting to a new family that is simply unheard of. Now YMMV, no guarantees, but this is what we experienced. Remember that at least 50% of your relationship with your own dog comes from you. I purchased my two Shiba Inus from Joni back in 2011. I have been a big fan of this breed for a long time since I was in High school which would make it about 15 years. During my research process, I spoke to many breeders across the states and spoke to many owners about this breed. I even had the opportunity go up to Oregon and check out Joni's place. I chose to get two male shibas from her and there were breeders in California telling me that it was the wrong decision I was making. But after seeking advice from everyone and also from Joni I went ahead with my decision. BEST DECISION EVER! They are the best shiba inus around. I go to dog parks, events, and public areas where they are being recognized for the breed and of course how cute they are.
