We don't belong to this vet regularly. But we had to say goodbye to our dog and didn't want to…read moredrive so far to our normal veterinarian. They let us come in, accommodated the time we requested, they were kind and patient, and the vet that assisted us was very empathetic, talked me through our decision, and let me have the time I needed. They were also very reasonable on the cost. When we are ready for another family member to join our home I hope we can get into them for our veterinary needs.

Overpriced babysitters: Moved from down south and attempted to schedule routine care for my animals…read more(no luck), all appointments were only available to be booked on an "emergency" basis where the receptionist insisted you call the morning of to see if they have availability (aka they're ensuring they can collect the "emergency" fee despite the fact that you were trying to schedule an appointment for over a week.) Next, I was charged over $500 for an emergency appointment for a suspected abcess (I specifically requested radiographs, blood work, etc....the original visit did not include radiographs and they said after watching the dog all day and guaranteeing that they gave him a full "check over" and he had a full bill of health ....when I picked the dog up, they told me they had not conducted the radiographs like I originally requested and that without "sedating the dog" it would be impossible (this is complete BS. Dog is non-aggressive, 100% cooperative, and Sedating an Animal for any procedure is always the LAST RESORT!!! Sedation can cause more issues and it is not necessary to gather the required images.) So I picked up my dog and paid the $600+bill thinking he actually had a full work up....Nope, most of that bill was the upcharge for absolutely nothing. Said nothing, paid the bill and tried to leave the office, only for the receptionist to start recommending a bunch of other services and vaccinations....that should have been covered during the $600 examination I paid for. Not while I'm walking out the door....I also paid for blood work. I have yet to receive a print out, call back, or any results regarding the blood work. I actually know how to read all of the requested reports and want to see them for my own records.......Something tells me, I paid $250+ for bloodwork they never actually conducted....how would I know? They dog had no evidence of having blood drawn when I picked him up and they have yet to provide the results months later....but I digress. (That is animal #1) I called again today to attempt to schedule an emergency euthanashia or appointment for my senior dog who is in active pain. They had the audacity to act shocked that I would expect them to have avaliability on short notice, stated they wouldn't be able to schedule me for a week out, and referred me to a clinic two hours away from me. When I told them a 22 was more humane than redirecting your clients to a clinic two hours away or delaying care for over a week.... They had the audacity to act like they did not know what I was talking about.. So in short....No this office does not care about making sure they are there for you and your animals in their time of need. I have seen better bedside manner in the morgue.....I literally work at the morgue. They do have a beautiful facility, but if they're more interested in up charging clients to keep up the facade of a curb appeal rather than ensuring their client's needs are met...that's sad. At this point in time, the best solution I have found to finding reasonable Vet care for my animals is to load them up and drive them South to California.

I have recently taken both my dogs to Dr. Barke, being new in town…read more Dog 1- had what I thought was a cyst that might need draining, along with an update on shots. Dr. Barke's Office is working with Covid rules, so they took him in while I waited in my car. However, Dr. Barke wanted to be able to tell me exactly what was going on with my dog. So she allowed me to come into the office, with my mask on, and stay at least 6' away from the examining table while she told me all she'd found, and why she wanted a blood test. She discovered that my dog was extremely low on thyroid, and that arthritis was making his joints hurt. She could tell by how he reacted to her touch, as well as how he moved. Long story short, she didn't skimp on time to just give him the shots and tell me the lump was a fat pocket. She has true care for the well-being of the animals in her care. He's a much happier, and friskier dog now that he's on corrective medication. Dog #2 - I nicknamed this dog Cujo because, even though he's small, he is a fear-biter and a screamer. I told them in advance, and they gave me a muzzle to put on him. They only had to give him his vaccinations, and trim his nails, but he was still a little pain in the butt! They couldn't have been nicer with him. It's difficult, because with Covid 19, I wasn't able to be in the room to settle him down for them. Letting them know his nasty temperament in advance made sure everyone came out unscathed! Dr. Barke gave me some ideas for what we could do in the future to keep him from stressing out, which was extremely helpful. My dogs are lucky to have such a good vet, and I'm very happy with their service.

Dr. Barbara Barke and her staff were professional and very friendly. They were well organized and took great care of our Lab. They had contacted our home vet and obtained our dog's medical history before we arrived. She discovered the problem right away and explained it to us. Treatment was performed and antibiotics and care instructions were provided. We are very happy with Dr. Barke and were fortunate to take our dog in to the Gold Beach Veterinary Clinic, as her situation would have only gotten worse. We are happy campers once again!

I have been taking my dog and cat here since 2006 and they have received excellent care!…read moreI've had emergency appointments after hours for my dog a couple of times. I like that they are available 24 hours a day for emergencies. My dog has had 2 surgeries to remove cysts and had his teeth cleaned also. My cat had to have a few teeth removed and was in surgery for that as well. The Vet and Vet Tech kept in touch with me during these times and let me know how they were doing. I'm one of those obsessed owners with my pets and they were very knowledgeable and comforting. There are several Vets here. They get the most top notch Vets and yes some of them move after a few years. They relocate to open their own practices or raise their families. Right now our go to Vet is Dr. Jessie. She is the most compassionate Vet I've ever met and I've had animals my entire life. Dr. John is the owner and is fabulous too. I wouldn't hesitate to see any of the Vets on staff. They also have all the pet supplies you need. I buy Science Diet food there for both my dog and cat. I've gotten treats and dental chews, collars and toys. I have found the front of the house staff to be wonderful also. Highly recommend!!

What can be said about someone who saves the life of a member of your family…read more We had a sick puppy who for sure would have died if we didn't get him help. We are brand new doggie parents so we didn't have establish care at any local veterinary clinic or hospital. So when our puppy got deathly ill we begged every clinic in town to help us and Allen creek took mercy on us and treated our doggie. When the treatment needed was going to be completely out of our budget they intensely questioned us to see what we were able to do at home and what needed to be done at the hospital. Instead of a week in the hospital we hospitalized him overnight and did the rest of the care at home with an assortment of medication, probiotics, and ways to keep him hydrated.

My most recent issue is the staff that works the front counter and primarily deals with check in, receiving animals weight and payment prior to leaving. They are extremely disrespectful, impatient and are not educated in the field. They also lost or misplaced our animal records: including medication, vaccination and prior surgery records. Thankfully we will keep copies of all the records. On top of that the staff was selling us the incorrect dosage and weight hip vitamin for our smaller dog. There is plenty of veterinary hospitals and or offices in the Grants Pass area. I would avoid this location at all costs.

I scheduled an establishing appointment for my 12-month-old lab to discuss vaccines, neutering, and…read moremicrochipping, as well as to address my concerns about his past severe reaction to puppy vaccines. When I called to make the appointment, I explained that I was nervous about proceeding with vaccinations due to his previous reaction and wanted a detailed discussion to help me prepare. I was assured that we would have a discussion regarding the previous reaction and a plan on how to move forward, but unfortunately, that did not happen. I was given a single sheet listing vaccines and their purposes(that I had to press for), but nothing addressing my specific concerns about adverse reactions or a personalized plan for my dog. I tried asking specific questions regarding the neutering--such as whether he would need a cone after surgery and if he could be around his brother afterward--but instead of receiving basic information, I was simply told, "We will go over that when you come in for the appointment." That was the whole reason I made this appointment in the first place. They let me know they had discharge paperwork. When I asked for discharge paperwork to review in advance, I was told they would provide it later. They mentioned they could build me a packet with all kinds of information, but it wouldn't be ready today- despite me clearly outlining what I needed before the appointment. The actual visit felt rushed and uninformative. My dog was weighed, given a quick visual check, and that was it--yet the cost was $62. My boyfriend's 4-year-old dog had the same experience and was also charged $62 (we brought them together) Additionally, when we asked for their nails to be trimmed, my dog moved slightly after the cut, and we were immediately told he would need to be sedated to finish. This was his first time there, and a little nervousness should have been expected. On top of all of this, our appointments were scheduled for 4 PM. We arrived 15 minutes early to provide records and complete any paperwork, yet we weren't called back until nearly 4:30--only to receive a basic weigh-in and visual check. I was really hoping for a more thorough and informative visit, especially given the specific concerns I expressed in advance. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling unprepared and uncertain about the next steps for my dog's care.
