It just keeps getting better. The more I eat at other sushi restaurants, the more I realize how much value Mori Ichi offers. The service, even when ordering take out like I did during my most recent visit, is great. The servers are friendly and even encourage you to take a seat and offer a drink if the food isn't quite ready when you arrive. We ordered over the phone and received our food 15-20 minutes after making the phone call on a Monday evening. The fish is consistently fresh and the portions are generous. I always order the Sushi Combo B because it has a bit of everything I like--generous, fresh, well formed nigiri, spider roll (my favorite), california roll, and miso soup. The chef's choice nigiri always seems to have salmon, tuna, and yellowtail but the other four pieces rotate and vary slightly. When we arrived it wasn't busy, but then again it was 6pm on a Monday. The restaurant itself is kept quite clean and it's a tad quiet with no music playing. I'm a regular here and I don't plan on frequenting any other sushi restaurant until I find something that can offer the same quality and quantity at a similar or better price. read more

Mori Ichi is such a lowkey gem in sugar land. It's a very cozy restaurant tucked into the same plaza as keepers, but I would much prefer Mori Ichi any day. I recently went and ordered a sunday afternoon lunch special (they do lunch specials on weekends isnt that crazy!). My plate came with 1 spider roll, 3 salmon nigiris, and 3 tuna nigiris for only $13!! It was a crazy steal for fresh tuna, insanely good salmon, and a really crunchy and flavorful spider roll. I enjoyed my meal so much that I actually went back a few days later because I was craving the salmon so much. This time, we went for dinner, so we got a roll combo and a sushi bridge. Both were so fresh and featured a wide variety of nigiris. We could have stopped our meal here, but we ran into some friends at the restaurant who recommended the scallop handoll and the shrimp fried rice, so of course we had to order it. So happy I listened! I have found my new go-to handroll in the scallop. I really appreciate how they fill their handolls all the way to the bottom, so that you get fresh fish with every bite. The fried rice was also surprisingly delicious with great umami flavor. The portion was BIG. The servers here are so nice. They really tend to each table and treat you like family. read more

Well, apparently, this is possibly a Taiwanese-owned sushi place because most of the waitresses spoken Mandarin with a Taiwanese accent. Ambience: It's a little noisy and crowded. Lighting is bright. I'm a little neutral to it when I was there. Service: Typical Chinese restaurant service, efficient, fast and utilitarian in every aspect. Feel pampered, no; feel like you're served out of duty, yes. Food: I had a Bento box. Quantity is certainly there, I felt I've eaten a little too much, I should have bagged the leftovers. The 4 pieces of sushi were OK, nothing outstanding. The rest of the Bento were OK, no particular attractive flavor stood out that will have made this place compelling. I guess I have eaten better Bentos in WA state. The fish cuts are all so thick and fresh and the nigiri's are the same and consistent. I tried the scallop hand roll this time and it was fresh and the seaweed is crispy. The atmosphere is that of family dining with a friendly, attentive staff and some of the freshest sushi and tastiest warm dishes we ever had at a Japanese bistro. The place is usually crowded and yet they always seat us quickly and serve us well. If I could give this 10 stars - I would. I've been coming here with my parents for over 10 years now. It's definitely our #1 favorite place to eat in Houston as the food is always consistently delicious! I have been coming to this place for years, and never been disappointed. A couple of nights ago I ordered their seafood udon. Besides the udon (always good) and the broth (ditto) the rest (the so called seafood) was disappointing: one piece of rubbery imitation something, one grossly overcooked shrimp, one tasteless squid and piece of chewey something). Even in quarantine, I must have my sushi! It's been a while since I had sushi, and it's probably gonna be a while I will head out here to get sushi again, so I decided to get the deluxe chirashi this time to fulfill my cravings. I got the regular salmon, the tuna, the fatty toro, the escolar, and the sweet shrimp. I think overall, it was good, but I liked my regular chirashi more. We stopped by for dinner this week. The service was really friendly and fast. Several other guests were there; so, it's pretty popular. We ordered the shrimp tempura bento and teriyaki chicken. The shrimp bento was really good. It tasted really authentic. The chicken teriyaki was battered, which was different. The sauce wasn't thick or particularly flavorful. SO Good. We were craving some Sushi and were about to pull into Keepers at the other end of the strip center, but decided to try this out. Starting with the ambiance, this place feels so much more comfortable than keepers. Its small, intimate, and very traditional feeling. The much is quite large, with a large selection or rolls, nigiri, bento boxes, and so much more. We tried the Super Red Dragon, and the crouching tiger. Listen people, the crouching tiger was the most delicious roll of sushi I have ever tried. It was absolutely phenomenal. I am not sure if it was the black pepper, sesame oil, or just fresh ingredients, but it was so damn good. This place is pretty small compared to some other Japanese restaurants but the food is fresh, service is decent, and price is relatively inexpensive. I can attest to the sushi and sashimi being properly cut and molded, as the nigiri pieces don't fall apart when held up by chopsticks or when dipped in soy sauce. The rice bowls and bento boxes are a good portion to feed a small army (1 hungry person or 2). I am liking the tempura, salmon, and katsu...although the pork cutlet can be pounded more tender and juicier. The breading for the katsu is fine, and fried to a medium golden yellow. Dinner for one just under $14 for all the food you get isn't bad. Let's hope Mori keeps up the good work and continues to impress. read more

Keeper's in comparison is a bit more expensive. * The sushi is fresh. * The ishikari (salmon noodle soup w/veggies & tofu) is really delicious and great when you're craving soup. * The hamachi kama (grilled mackerel) is tasty and affordable as well. * The salmon teriyaki was cooked perfectly (not overcooked) * The wife always gets the Black Dragon roll, which is good. * Chicken tempura! I've never seen that offered at any other Japanese restaurant aside from here. The portion is pretty large, enough to share if you so choose. Their lunch specials are a good deal! My husband loves this place! In Sugarland, this place is one of the better ones for sushi, but not the noodle dishes. Food: The sushi is fresh! I love the hand rolls, especially the spicy salmon and spicy tuna! I've ordered their combo A and B in the past. The combos are good options for the specialty rolls. Favorite sushi rolls - spicy salmon, spicy tuna, scallop roll, rainbow. The bento boxes during lunch time are extremely filling and you get a good variety as well. It comes with tempura, california roll, rice, salad, soup, and your main dish. I'm a huge fan of udon, so I tried their nabeyaki udon. I was not impressed. It was the first and last time I'll ever have that here. It was not authentic and lacking in flavor. For some reason, there were carrots and broccoli in the noodle soup....quite unusual! What they lack in the noodle dishes, they make up for in their sushi dishes. Price: Excellent price on sushi. The price is better than Keeper's, which is down the block. Customer service: The staff are friendly but they seem rather rushed at times. Tips: Expect a 15 minute wait if you come on a Friday night or weekend during dinner...they get quite busy OVERALL: Yes to the sushi & Bento boxes, BUT no to the udon soups. read more

My husband and I always prefer to go to Mori Ichi, love their sushi and the staff knows us and they have fast and great service

I went a week ago and the most horrible customer service experience happened to me. I've been going there since I was a kid but what happened a week ago made me never want to go again. Me and my sister split our bill, so I was paying for half of the entire bill. I tipped 15% of my tab whereas my little sister (she's 13) didn't, I believe she forgot but I didn't notice until later. Anyways, the server picked up my receipt with the tip, laughed at me and pointed at the tip saying it was "too less". And then handed it to her coworker in front of me where the coworker said "no you have to tip 15%" and gave me back my split tab. And they proceeded to make me change my $5 to $10. I've always tipped coming here and it was just an awful and rude experience. If I knew my sister didn't tip, I would have gladly but the way they laughed and physically made me change it was awful. I know I should have spoken up for myself but I'm an incredibly anxious person and that should have never happened in the first place. Never going back again. It's very lightly breaded and is tender and flavorful. Just enough sauce, but not overly drenched. I also like the variety - comes with 3 potstickers, salad, miso soup, 6 piece California roll, and orange slices. :) Sushi pizza is also great!
