PG& E took care of a gas leak behind my stove, and checked the furnace to make sure all was in working condition because we just purchased the house. I called the home warranty through Fidelity- (horrible insurance company) they take care of absolutely nothing. So they take my 100 dollar service fee, send out an 18 year old, from what I see visually, who comes in to read the notes left behind from PG&E on Hazard report. Ten minutes later I come back to check in on the young man and he looks so puzzled, the look on the poor guy's face, he tells me he doesn't know what's wrong with the furnace and what the codes or terms indicate on the hazard report- he didn't understand the terminology and had been trying to contact PG&E to help explain. I called the dispatcher for this company, explained all- and she apologized and told me she'd send a senior rep.. well within 5 minutes of hanging up the phone, I get a call from Fidelity- Consolidated called them and told them it was not repairable?? Or who knows what to get out of it and my claim was denied. This is a 2023 furnace- newer. On the hazard notes it states that there communication gaps.. if you look up the term it means improper sealing which is what PG&E tech explained. The furnaces needed to be sealed properly and needed a little more clearance above vent..and this tech couldn't figure it out.. I felt bad for this kid but upset w this company for calling it in as non repairable because he didn't know what to do. Quick pay out for them. The kid also left my furnace connected to my thermostat AC unplugged and a panel from who knows where on the floor next to furnace- great- thanks ##!@.. what a horrible experience. I even asked if everything was okay because it was that noticeable. He seemed bothered that I had hit pause on the repair to get a couple more quotes--something any reasonable homeowner would do when looking at a $3,500+ job. The moment I got involved and asked a few basic questions--like what the part actually costs--Tom became combative and defensive. He literally said, "If you're going to play this game, you guys can find someone else." What kind of professional talks to customers like that? Turns out, we did find someone else. Another licensed HVAC professional quoted us $2,000 LESS to replace the entire system--and told us the repair Tom recommended wouldn't have even fixed the root problem. We had our AC system installed on a new house by Trinity air. After hearing from some people how…read moretheir condensate line was blocked, I wanted to pour some Vinegar down the condensate line to ensure that I don't have blockage. Guess what - they never installed the cleanout opening. I chatted with the owner few weeks ago and he agreed that the cleanout should have been there. Since it was a small task, I left it as - schedule it with your other jobs in the area. I followed up again and he asks - what issue are we talking about. After I informed him of the issue, he says that it was the plumber who installed the condensate line. I used Gemini on the web to see who would be responsible and as per Gemini, "The HVAC contractor who installed or replaced the unit is responsible for installing a cleanout port or accessible T-joint. Most modern building codes require condensate lines to have a cleanout access point to clear blockages without cutting the pipe." While some people could say AI is not always right, my personal intuition is that the AI is correct in this case. Even if the plumber did some part of the work (e.g. installing the drain pipe through the house framing), at the end of the day, the HVAC contractor needs to make sure that the overall system is installed correctly. If not correct, then he needed to flag it to the general contractor for the house build. The reason we hire professional people is because it is their job to make sure that everything is done properly and if it was not done properly, be a professional - own up to the mistake and rectify the issue without charging additional fee for their mistake. So if you agree with my thinking, then you know that you dealing with a company that is not professional. If you don't agree with my thinking, keep hiring these people - you will pay for it later :-).
