What a find! This little gem of a Trattoria was such a lovely surprise. We had just arrived in Levanto and needed to find a place for dinner. As if often the case, most of the "recommended" restaurants were booked. However, we passed Moresco and almost missed it! Thank God we didn't. There was no outdoor seating, so it was easy to walk by without noticing the entrance. Unfortunately we've been trained that restaurants need outdoor seating, and that if the tables are filled, it must be good! While that may be true in some cases, Moresco is the exception... By a long shot.
We set a reservation for 8:30pm and arrived about 10 minutes early. They were gracious, greeted us with a smile and seated us right away. We looked around and the interior was very nicely decorated and had a casual intimacy, and yet it bustled with conversation, laughter and people living life. Since we were all tired from out trip, we decided to keep the dinner simple, no appetizer. We ordered the house wine (a very nice, crisp white) and ordered out mains. Levanto is known for it's fish and seafood. So I ordered the sea bass ravioli and my sister in law ordered the calamari. My wife and brother in law ordered a beef ragù and pesto dish. All the dishes were fantastic! My wife's trofei (hand made when ordered) was done to absolute perfection. How do the Italians do it? All there pasta is done to a perfect al dente. My sea bass ravioli was light and full of flavor, and my sister in law's calamari was mounded with a mix of calamari and super fresh sardines (they had to have been caught that day)! Finally, we opted for desert. To be honest, out last couple weeks in Italy has left us a little on the disappointed side when it comes to desert. But Moresco made up for that in a single sitting. Three of us got the pani cotta (one with berries and two with caramel) and one got Tiramisu. Again, they were perfect.
If you are looking for a wonderful, small, family run restaurant that sacrifices outdoor seating for indoor perfection, Moresco is the place for you. Buon appetito! read more
