We stayed in a first-floor ocean view room since we had a service animal, and the room size was great. The grounds are well-kept, there's convenient beach access, and I loved that they have an adults-only hot tub--that was a nice touch. The person who checked us in was also very kind and welcoming, which set a great first impression. Unfortunately, things went downhill that night. Our upstairs neighbors were stomping loudly for hours. Around 8 PM, I called the front desk to let them know, and I was told they would reach out to the room--but nothing changed. By 10 PM, the noise was still going, so I called again. This time, instead of resolving the issue, I felt like we were being questioned. We were told the guests upstairs said they were already in bed, which didn't line up with what we were clearly hearing. The situation was frustrating enough that I tried to get their attention by tapping on the ceiling, which then got turned back on us as a complaint. When we asked about switching rooms, we were told the hotel was sold out and we'd have to wait until the next day--which I understand--but the way it was handled by the manager was disappointing. There was no apology, no empathy, and the tone came off dismissive and rude, which made the situation worse. I really wanted to love this place because the location and property are great, but customer service matters, especially when issues come up. Because of that experience, I'd think twice about staying here again.

The décor is airy and beachy, creating a relaxed vibe. Parking is valet-only, but they do offer in/out privileges if you plan to drive around. The upgraded rooms with firepits are absolutely worth it. We loved sipping wine by the fire while watching the sunset. The faux wood plank floors were clean and a nice upgrade from the carpeted rooms mentioned in other reviews. We did have an issue with an auto-light turning on throughout the night, which was frustrating. The hotel tried to fix it but wasn't able to during our stay. The rooftop bar is a fantastic place for happy hour and sunset views. We ordered the sprouts, chicken nuggets, and garlic fries, and were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions. They also offer a small but solid selection of local beers and wines that pair well with the food. The bar staff was friendly and helpful. I wish I could say the same about the rooftop hostess, who was a bit rude to us. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, definitely check out the rooftop bar.

Can't really give her a 1, because we were not able to use her…read more We know nothing about her, so we contacted her to ask about her service, as well as placed to have the ceremony, etc. She emailed us back with "Let me know exactly what you want and I will give you a quote!" Well, we are not from the area and don't know "exactly what we want" so we gave her an idea, along with the fact that we really are not sure yet. Her reply, again very short and almost rude, was "I do not to any consulting. I can do your service for $295." She added that "I have done over 1000 weddings." Well, with responses like that, she wasn't going to have 1001 be ours. We needed a little bit of assistance in where is good, etc. We got more assistance from a receptionist at a hotel than we did from Andrea - and we were wanting to hire Andrea to do our wedding. Alternatively, we contacted Sandy White, an officiant new to the area. She drove from Los Osos to Pismo to meet with us, gave us advice on the area, and her rate is one third of what Andrea charges. We are not married yet, so we will review her after the ceremony. But definitely don't need "services" like Andrea is providing.

However, many of our out-of-town friends weren't up for a destination wedding on a Monday, so when we realized we didn't have enough people to fill the tent (we expected 50-75 guests), Colleen was still able to help us. She put us in touch with the Pismo State Beach people and we ended up having our reception on a sand dune next to the golf course. We actually took a bunch of wedding photos on the golf course itself, and then Colleen helped us re-locate our wedding across the parking lot on the outdoor patio at Fin's restaurant. It was really lovely and nothing we would have ever figured out how to do on our own. Colleen coordinated our chair set up for the ceremony on the sand dune and was an awesome, completely dependable and calm on-site coordinator for our reception. I had a ton of questions before our big day, and Colleen was always so patient and friendly and helpful.

As a last-ditch effort, we stopped at Dolphin Bay around 2 AM hoping for a room. Jacob at the front desk completely turned our night around. He jumped into action, got us settled quickly, and went above and beyond to take care of us despite our unexpected arrival. His level of service was incredible. We woke up the next morning to a stunning ocean view and realized we had stumbled into something special. What started as one of the worst travel experiences quickly became one of the best. The one-bedroom suite was incredibly spacious, the food was delicious both at the restaurant and through in-room dining (we tried both), and everything arrived quickly without long wait times. The valet team handled everything with care and urgency, and every employee we encountered was attentive and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. What stood out most was the General Manager, Erica. She was everywhere -- helping at the front desk, assisting guests, in the restaurant, at the pool, even parking cars -- all with a smile on her face. That kind of leadership is rare, and it clearly shows in the culture of the entire staff. Even though the property was fully booked during our stay, it never once felt crowded or chaotic, and the staff never seemed behind or overwhelmed -- which says a lot about how well this place is run. This trip was especially meaningful for us because it was one of the rare times we've traveled without our six kids -- and the entire time we were there, we kept saying how we can't wait to come back with them and make this our new family vacation spot. We're beyond grateful for this experience and will absolutely be back.

Filipino's had another great event last night!…read more~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ or a bit of Culture in the SLO/ Santa Barbara area The last time we were invited, we both had a great time at their New Year's Holiday Event. This time I reluctantly missed it (was under the weather), but my wife went (who happens to be part Filipina) with her friend. Her Chinese friend had such a good time dancing, playing games, watching a beauty contest, eating traditional food, & dancing, that she did not want to leave till almost midnight. My wife ending up staying about 6 hours! A little over a year ago we meet two of the very active super-charming mature Filipina ladies just by fate, at the Chinese Buffet (Dynasty) down on Grand Ave. in Grover. Somehow they suspected that my wife was at least part Filipino, struck up a conversation, & then promptly invited us to their prior party. We had a great time with hours of extremely imaginative games & contests, great company, & great food (e.g. Pancit ). At that event, we both felt like totally party poppers, since while we about the youngest their, the retired crowd had almost super-human energy. Maybe, their secret powers come from eating Balut, or my favorite, Lumpia Shanghai. Even though it was New Years Eve, we were such party poppers that we left before midnight....shame on us. It was also a flash back to my College days at the University of Hawaii, when I was an active member of UH Manoa's Filipino Language & Culture Club. We had tons of great parties & fun events. including fund raising car washes & hiking trips up on Tantalus mountains behind Honolulu. What a wonderful bunch of friends! At this event last night (8/15/15), my wife brought me a huge plate of homemade Filipino food, while she related to me a summary of their current event. Prior to the beauty contest, they even tried to get my modest, but beautiful wife, to run. Out of shyness, she deferred. At next years event, I am going to have to try to have her enter....and win! That would be so cool. Anyway, they had a wonderful time with tons of games, all kinds of dancing (both traditional & modern), the many contests, along with eating tons of homemade food. As opposed to the New Years event the average age of the crowd was around thirty or so.... so they had even more amazing energy to party....and exhaust my wife with fun! We are now active supporters of this hidden Cultural Center, set unassuming, in the periphery of the "wilds" of Grover Beach :) If you are ever lucky to be invited, you are guaranteed to have a great time and get some Culture at the same time. I thank the people of this wonderful Cultural Center for their amazing hospitality & great friendship!
