The course could/should improve. What has happened to this course? So much potential and nothing is kept up. The cart path is like 4 wheel driving. There are so many hazards on this course, just because it's not kept up. There is a lot of dirt patches. Staff was nice.

Good Venue! Free golf course parking. Ain't nothing like music, beach, food trucks, and alcohol. Oh, and beautiful weather!

This was my first time here. I enjoyed the golf course. I thought I would see the ocean from any hole I tee'd off from, but the day we golf was the same day as the Sublime w/ Rome concert. So a couple holes were rerouted and not playable. Besides that, I enjoyed it, I also got to Sublime practice. Beers and burgers were delicious, but tell me a golf course that doesn't have a good burger. I plan on playing again soon, if you want a nice view and semi challenging course, then Avila Beach Golf Course is your place.

Location location location! Nestled into the hills beside the sea, this golf course meanders along a valley. It is not an easy course, but not too difficult either. The weather in Avila Bay (Port San Luis) is tricky. It can be cold and overcast, then warm to scorching with a kind of trapped air bubble, so think Northern California and layer accordingly. The holes back in the valley will always be a bit warmer. You do share the course with joggers and bikers along the bike trail, and sometimes the drought has yellowed patches of the grass, but the fresh sea air makes it all worthwhile. It is one to a cart right now because of COVID, which slows the play a bit for everyone. Average cost can be $60. You can go online for coupons ahead of time. The local Mulligans Grill and Bar is a good choice for refreshment when you have completed 18 holes!

I was charged $90 for a round. Fairway was dead grass. Greens were dead grass. Course design is not favorable to any type of golfer. Only was allowed to play 16 holes.

We enjoyed the view on hole 10!

The concert started at 2:30 and they go for about an hour and then you have a half hour intermission. Then they play another hour. Most everybody that plays here is local so it's great. So I emailed for clarification and they responded confirming that I had a 1pm tour. The website clearly says 11 and 1! When I arrived at 12:40 to get into the gate, it was locked. We called and the lady (same lady from email) told me that my tour was at 12 and that I was late, they don't do refunds, she already sent our docent home and that I was wrong on my time. She was SO RUDE!! I do not know how someone like this is still employed here, even if she volunteers, she's costing this place money! I checked my email again, it said 1pm! I called her back to tell her that she was wrong and she continued to blame me for her mistake. So after all of that nothing, I can use the tickets at a later time, even though I'm from out of town, and may not be able to come back. She did not care. This experience has been very disappointing. I really wanted to see the lighthouse, but I do NOT want to see her. And from the other reivews, I can see that she's been there for a while and is rude to everyone. Please find someone else to run this place. Think twice before booking. images for proof

They offer a complimentary olive oil tasting, allowing you to truly appreciate the depth and character of each variety. The fresh bread served alongside the tasting is crafted from scratch in nearby Los Alamos at Bob's Well Bread Bakery, and it is delicious. A few of my personal favorites were the Santa Ynez, Garlic, and Habanero olive oils. The Garlic was so outstanding that I immediately purchased a bottle to take home. It is incredibly versatile. The setting itself is just as memorable as the tasting. There is ample charming outdoor seating beside a small creek, and the gentle sound of flowing water creates a peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere. The vibes are truly immaculate. Inside, the shop is beautifully styled and filled with thoughtfully selected gifts and, of course, an impressive array of olive oils available for purchase. Hayley (sorry if it's spelled wrong) was especially warm and helpful, making the visit feel welcoming. They also offer WiFi, which allowed us to linger a bit longer and get some work done. It is rare to find a place that combines quality, hospitality, and atmosphere so seamlessly.

We stayed in a first-floor ocean view room since we had a service animal, and the room size was great. The grounds are well-kept, there's convenient beach access, and I loved that they have an adults-only hot tub--that was a nice touch. The person who checked us in was also very kind and welcoming, which set a great first impression. Unfortunately, things went downhill that night. Our upstairs neighbors were stomping loudly for hours. Around 8 PM, I called the front desk to let them know, and I was told they would reach out to the room--but nothing changed. By 10 PM, the noise was still going, so I called again. This time, instead of resolving the issue, I felt like we were being questioned. We were told the guests upstairs said they were already in bed, which didn't line up with what we were clearly hearing. The situation was frustrating enough that I tried to get their attention by tapping on the ceiling, which then got turned back on us as a complaint. When we asked about switching rooms, we were told the hotel was sold out and we'd have to wait until the next day--which I understand--but the way it was handled by the manager was disappointing. There was no apology, no empathy, and the tone came off dismissive and rude, which made the situation worse. I really wanted to love this place because the location and property are great, but customer service matters, especially when issues come up. Because of that experience, I'd think twice about staying here again.

Cupolas are often used to provide a look out or to admit light and air into a structure. There are two additional buildings on the property. The barn is important for 4 reasons: history & culture, architecture, recreation & education, and in December 2013, the barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This iconic landmark on South Higuera is one of only two octagonal barns left in California. To sit here is to be seduced by the Pacific's rhythmic pulse, a panoramic distraction that almost--almost--masks the architectural and emotional exhaustion of the room. The décor suggests a space in transition, or perhaps an identity crisis. It bears the unmistakable look of a "palimpsest"--a new design hastily layered over the ghost of a previous one, creating an aesthetic friction that feels more like a temporary stage set than a permanent sanctuary. This weariness extends to the staff, who navigate the floor with a palpable, heavy-lidded misery, as if the sheer beauty of the coastline has become a burden they are no longer interested in carrying. The kitchen, however, still possesses moments of genuine, startling clarity. I opted for the "Trio," a format that usually promises variety but often delivers compromise. Not so here. The sandwich was a minor triumph of construction and flavor, a high-water mark for a casual lunch. It was flanked by a clam chowder of remarkable depth--creamy without being cloying, and singing with the brine of the sea. Yet, the meal is not without its turbulence. The accompanying salad arrived drowning, a casualty of an over-zealous hand with the dressing that rendered the greens more of a soup than a side. And then there is the matter of the French Onion soup. To encounter a $9 upcharge for a bowl of onions and melted Gruyère is to experience a moment of pure, capitalistic vertigo. It is a price point that suggests a level of luxury the service and the "layered" décor simply haven't earned. As for the amenities, the state of the restrooms remains a mystery--a rare blind spot in an otherwise exhaustive afternoon. Blue Moon Over Avila remains a destination for the eyes, and intermittently, for the palate. If you can ignore the visible gloom of the service and the audacity of the surcharges, the view alone is worth the price of admission. Just perhaps stick to the chowder and leave the French Onion to the high rollers.

No second round of drinks, no food order. Stood up and walked to the front where our waiter met me as he walked out from inside. We asked if they forgot about us and got a nonchalant response that they were busy. At which point I just asked for the check and said we would just go somewhere else.
