I went…read moreon a Saturday afternoon just around lunch time and it was pretty easy to find and drive to. The lot was pretty busy but we quickly found a parking spot. Once there, it was a little confusing to figure out where to go for peach picking as there's so much happening (food truck, ice cream, boiled peanuts, fresh produce, other u-pick produce like blueberries and wildflowers) but the staff was super nice and pointed us in the right direction! (Side note: before picking, we hit the restrooms which were Port-a-potties. They were fine but just fyi and bring hand sanitizer!) For peach picking, we paid $30/bucket which was a totally fair price for the amount of peaches we were able to pick! (My group of 5 split a single bucket and brought more than enough home). The picking was good and the staff was super helpful with telling us how to pick and what to look for in good fruit. We brought our own bags but they also offered paper bags which was nice. After, we had both the strawberry and peach ice cream! The peach ice cream was honestly pretty mild but the strawberry ice cream was SO GOOD and creamy and hit the spot after picking. Overall, such a great experience fruit picking and highly recommend if you can go!

A fun fall date!…read more Southern Belle Farm, located in McDonough, provides hours of wholesome fun and free parking. My wife and I arrived on a warm October day to enjoy the pumpkin patch and U-pick flowers. We arrived in the afternoon, but there was plenty of selection and nothing was "picked over." I paid $16 for a quart sized plastic vase for my U-pick flowers. They sell gallon sized buckets as well. Scissors and water are provided. Be mindful of bees in the field. They won't trouble you if you don't trouble them. There is an area in the back for you to arrange the flowers; I took full advantage of this because this trip doubled as a photo shoot. There were all types of people enjoying the farm; IG girls, families, even one couple using a wagon full of pumpkins as a baby announcement. Pumpkins range from $5-$20 each depending on size and breed. A nice young man named Luke helped us corral our pumpkins and carry them to our car. I didn't know they offered that service, but we tipped well. If you run up an appetite, they have a snack bar with fritters, ice cream, and lemonade. I'll be back next fall!

Buyer beware: gallon size does not reflect market expectations…read more What you're getting: A recently rooted bare-root plant in a 3-gallon pot, not a truly established 3-year-old pomegranate. My experience: I bought a 3-gallon Parfianka pomegranate expecting a structured canopy and established root system. Instead, I received an extremely underwhelming plant with barely any root development. In fact, when I removed it from the pot, most of the soil fell apart. The issue: If a nursery is selling recently rooted plants, the listing should clearly communicate that. I have yet to see another 3-gallon pomegranate on the market with this level of development. This was extremely disappointing. Customer service: Customer service was polite and did offer a partial refund or full return, but I decided to keep it to avoid the hassle and risk of shipping. I ultimately spent $40 on a plant I wouldn't have bought for $12 if I saw it in person. My recommendation: Ask for current photos and clarification on root development before purchasing unless your goal is to buy a starter plant.

Located in the Covington/Conyers border zone where the (now in their 20's) lost children of Rockdale County (long story if you don't get the reference) still cruise the strip malls - this small pick-your-own blueberry patch serves as entertainment and, dare I say, appreciation for where food comes from to sugar crazed preschoolers. A few of the neighborhood dads and myself carted our offspring to the hinterlands this past weekend to let said fruit of loins pick some berries. As the owner does not use any pesticides, the berries are safe to each right off the bush - a good thing if you have a pack of 2 and 3 year olds. When we arrived, we found that the patch was actually closed due to excessive picking the previous week - but the owner didn't have the heart to turn away the little tykes, so the kids were allowed to pick all of the ripe blueberries they could find. Who knew searching for the little blue orbs in a sea of pink unripened fruit could be so much fun? The kids had a blast (imagine a hunt for miniature sugary Easter eggs) and we parents were grateful for the nap inducing crash (the kids ate a decent portion of what they picked) that happened 1 hour later. Oh, the owner only charged us 5 bucks for all that we picked because he felt poorly about the status of the patch. Nice guy.
