If you're arriving after dark, be cautious--the entrance sign is not lit. I was driving a 40-foot motorhome towing a 30-foot trailer and mistakenly took the first turn instead of the second. The signage isn't illuminated, so headlights are helpful to confirm you're in the right place. I highly recommend arriving before dark. The campground is very quiet and feels like stepping back into "old Florida." It sits right on the river, where we saw otters playing and fish jumping--literally jumping two feet out of the water. Very cool. We stayed in Site 20, a pull-in site with excellent river views and located right next to the boat ramp. There's a small store on-site that sells firewood, fire rings at the sites, and it's perfect for a relaxing evening. The permanent residents were extremely friendly and helpful. Kayaks are available to rent for river trips (we didn't do that this time). They don't sell bait, but there's a great bait and tackle shop less than a quarter mile across the street with wonderful people--perfect for fishing off the dock. No problems at all, the dogs loved it, and my wife really enjoyed how relaxing it was. We'd happily stay again.

This is a two-part review with the second part being the more telling!…read more Part 1: Another fantastic experience with Alpha ATV Rentals in Brooksville, FL! The reservation process was simple, the onsite intake was the perfect mix of friendly and professional, the equipment was excellent, and as a consumer, the value was in my favor! Not my first time with Alpha ATV Rentals and it will not be my last! Thank you to the team!! Part 2: It's a HOT Florida August Sunday and despite the heavier than normal rains the days before, it's dusty. Blech. But, normal and expected. It's the end of the day and we were the last ones back. Alpha ATV's Mike, Marcus, and the team have had a long day, the truck is packed, and they're ready to take off for home. Remember: Alpha ATV does ATV rentals. As we're saying the final goodbyes and head home, suddenly we're all aware that a kid on his own ATV is talking about an injured motorcross rider over ¼ mile away. The rider is not one of their customers and it will turn out that it's not a rider they've previously met, but all that Mike and Marcus care about is that someone is hurt, and they're going to see what they can do to help. They don't discuss anything. They don't question anything - they just take off to render whatever aid they can. That's heart, that's integrity, that's caring, that's integrity, and those are the people I want to be friends with, give my business/commerce, and just have in my life! But the story isn't over. I'm an ex-Medic and I call Mike on the phone, update him, and ask for permission to use one of his ATVs to get to the scene. Without hesitation he green lights me and I head out with a jump kit. A kid was seriously hurt (he had to be airlifted to a facility) but while I'm doing my thing with the patient, Mike and Marcus are controlling the scene, giving comfort to the kid's father and brother, working with the Rangers and the medics and police when they arrive, and continue this show of caring until the kid and his family are on the way and the authorities have all they need. They didn't just stand around looking at their watches, they didn't think about how long their day was, Alpha ATV took care of absolute strangers in need and went far beyond the extra mile! And if that kind of sense of community caring doesn't deserve your patronage, y'all need to rethink your priorities!!
