It was…read morepretty mellow for a holiday night with just a handful of people there with plenty of seating both inside, outside, and at the bar. We ended up grabbing seats at the bar, which was a great choice. We ordered the: *Fig Burger with Brussels Sprouts: the Brussels sprouts were phenomenal. They had what tasted like pecans, some kind of glaze, and cheese... seriously so good. The Fig Burger itself was just as impressive with such a unique combo and absolutely delicious. *Steak Sandwich with Onion Rings: this was also a standout. Perfectly cooked, super flavorful, and came with a great dipping sauce that really tied it all together. The onion rings were crispy and on point too. First off, I love that they offer a variety of sides (sweet potato fries, truffle fries, mac & cheese, Brussels sprouts, etc.), though most come with a small upcharge. We had a few drinks and even grabbed a bottle of wine from the bar to take back to our Airbnb, which was a nice bonus. The vibe was relaxed with TVs playing highlights from a basketball game, and the bartender/server was awesome. Parking was easy with free street parking, though that might've been because it was late and a holiday. Only heads up: definitely call ahead about kitchen and closing times, especially on holidays. Online said they close at midnight, but they were actually closing at 11 PM. We were told over the phone the kitchen closed at 9:45 PM, but when we arrived at 9:30 PM, it had just switched to last call. Thankfully, they were kind enough to still get our order in. Overall, phenomenal food, great service, and a solid spot worth checking out. Would definitely come back.

I guess you could call it a bit of a girl dinner (or snack) - aperol spritz + onion rings. The vibes were great, especially the back patio area. The service was also pretty solid and we didn't feel like anyone was rushing us out, despite just ordering nibbles. Great spot overall!

In place of the iconic Royal Liquor sign is a similar sign for WineCo. The man at the counter turned out to be the same gentleman who I have seen for years, and nothing changed inside. I am happy to report that this store is packed to the brim with beer, wind and liquor. Like ~90% of the independent liquor stores in the county, 101 Wine is Caledonian staffed and owned, just the way I like my liquor stores. I trust them. The name change is due to their online wine sales business. I removed one star because the name and new sign represent the gentrification of this funky town. This is walking distance from the new high end hotel and adjacent to a recently approved high density housing project that are stripping the character out while pulling in more bread. You will still find the same products that have been available previously, but this little hometown gem just sold a little of it's soul.

Wyatt got a KOREAN CRACK sandwich (grilled trip tip, Korean BBQ sauce, smoked cheddar, kimchi, and crispy fried onions) on a brioche burger bun. I ordered a WHISKEY CRACK (grilled trip tip, whiskey-peppercorn sauce, blue cheese, pickled onions, and arugula) on a ciabatta roll. as is our habit, we traded half a sandwich for half a sandwich. both were amazing. a couple of days later, the wife-unit and I were headed to Solana Beach from Carlsbad, and stopped in Cardiff at SEASIDE MARKET. the sandwich we shared was not as good as the one Wyatt and I shared. instead of a dense, chewy ciabatta roll, this time the sandwich was served on a squishy, wonder bread roll. major downgrade. anyway, pretty darn amazing and totally worth an occasional drive down the coast. plus, you gotta love the view.

From sandwiches, to deli meat and of course their butcher shop and marinated meats selection. This is the home of the famous "Cardiff Crack," aka burgundy pepper tri-tip. You may have had it before at a friend or family BBQ, on some local area restaurants in sandwich, or in the famous Tri-Tip Nachos at Petco Park while cheering on the Padres. I love checking out all of the items they have available, and always have to grab at least a pound of the crack. This last time I picked up the Spicy Chipotle BBQ tri-tip as well. So good. If you are just visiting, you can grab a sandwich made with the tri-tip.
