This is neither the cheapest nor tastiest noodle bar around yet I try to come here whenever I'm in the area simply because I like the friendly owners.
They're always smiling and helpful without being pushy. There's an older woman who serves behind the counter and a man who does a lot of the cooking. Every time I go, it's always the same duo so I assume they are the owners. Given their trading hours and the lack of wait staff, they must work very hard so I try to support this noodle bar when I'm in the area.
Although they do a range of typical Asian style dishes like honey chicken and beef with black bean sauce, it's the noodle bar which most people come for.
Noodle bars were all the rage in the late nineties with a Naughty Noodles chain in every suburb but they fell out of favour (or flavour?). In the last few years, there's been a revival of sorts with a few Wok In A Box popping up.
Well, if you don't remember how a noodle bar works, you simply
1. Pick a cooking style (Japanese style is my favourite with a sweet plum sauce. Thai style is also delicious if you want something with a bit more zing)
2. Select the noodle type. Thin rice noodles are the least fatty, oily hokkien noodles are the most fatty
3. Select ingredients from a variety of meet and vegie options.
On my last visit, I had the Japanese style egg noodles with beef while my friend chose the Chinese style combination egg noodles. Affordable, fast and tasty. read more
