We were listing our home for sale much sooner than anticipated." I received a call Monday morning saying they received my message and they could schedule us that day as they had just had a cancellation that was actually for our area. By 11:00 Am that day the service person, TJ came out and cleaned the AC compressor and gas insert and glass. I was thrilled when I saw how fabulous the fireplace looked. Thank you Colony Heating and Ac and Thank you TJ!

However, due to it being a Saturday, I was charged a $250 weekend service charge. The problem was that drifting snow had blocked the outflow pipe. While the technician was at my home, he received a call from my neighbor experiencing exactly the same thing. The technician advised him to clear his exhaust pipe. No charge. I did not object to the technician's service fee, but felt the weekend fee excessive, especially since my neighbor was treated fairly at NO CHARGE. Colony profited unreasonably and lost my business because of it. Dr. Sisson

TL/DR Review: JP Plumbing & Heating is fantastic! They are actually willing to fix you furnace, or…read moreair conditioner, instead of just trying to sell you a new one. That can mean the difference between spending a few hundred dollars on a repair, or spending several thousand dollars on a whole new HVAC system. Unabridged Review: In order to understand what makes JP so special, you need to know a little about how the HVAC business works. Imagine if every auto mechanic primarily worked on one or two types of cars, but they didn't have a sign out front telling you which types they worked on. So, if you bring your Honda to a mechanic who works on Honda and Acura, he'll have all sorts of parts in stock, and he'll fix your Honda. If you bring that Honda to a mechanic who works on Toyota and Lexus, that mechanic has a choice. He can either order parts and try to fix a car he's not used to working on, or he can tell you your Honda is in bad enough shape that it's not worth fixing. Then, he can sell you a Toyota, make a lot more money on the sale in a lot less time than it would have taken to fix your Honda, and also make it so it's easier for him to fix your car next time. That's exactly how most HVAC companies work. If your system is made by York, and the company you call primarily sells Goodman and Trane, they're typically not going to order a York part for an HVAC unit they don't typically work on, and then have you get angry it's taking so long for the part to get there, when they can make a lot more money selling you a new Goodman or Trane furnace and condenser that they will always have parts for. I don't blame them. I understand why they do it. I just don't want to pay $6,000 for a new HVAC unit when I could have paid $300 for someone to diagnose the problem, and replace a part that probably costs $25-$50. That's where JP Plumbing & Heating comes in. My wife first discovered them after one HVAC company had told me my problem was my thermostat (it wasn't), and quoted me something like $1,200 for a new thermostat, three new filters, and way more labor than a thermostat requires. Then, another company told me my entire HVAC system needed to be replaced. JP sent a tech out. He examined the furnace, and determined that the flame sensors were malfunctioning because they were covered in rust. He spent a couple hours scraping the rust off, and the flame sensors have worked great ever since. This was two or three years ago. We called JP again this past Wednesday afternoon, because the furnace kept kicking on and off randomly. We figured the flame sensors might have rusted again. JP sent a technician out early the next morning (yesterday). He determined that the problem was a broken pressure switch, and he had it fixed in probably less than an hour. So, I have called JP for two separate things, and they were able to fix those things both times, instead of selling me a new HVAC unit. If you want to spend thousands of dollars on a new HVAC set-up, then definitely do that, but don't spend thousands of dollars on a new unit because you called the wrong HVAC repair company. Call JP instead.

I was doing a remodel on our home in Cedar Rapids IA and called 5 local heating and A/C companies -…read moreboth large and small operations. Eric came and was very informative and knowledgeable about what the house size would need and did not try and up-sell any expensive thermostats or any one particular type of furnace or A/C, but instead took the time to fully explain modern operation and controls and which one would qualify for Alliant rebates. Of the 5 bids Eric's bid was very competitive on price and he was able to schedule me in right away. My first impression of Eric is of a very trustable, dependable person. The bid was to replace furnace, A/C and water heater (Power vented gas) and install gas lines to stove and dryer. Installation to start 11/12 August 2020. A large storm moved through Cedar Rapids and knocked out power to the town for 8 days. Rescheduled for 27 Aug. Eric showed up at 0730 Thursday and Friday and with a helper, did the install. Looks good and works great. He took away all the old stuff and left the place very clean. Eric and his assistant were very nice to work with and I would recommend them to anyone as a competitive, competent HVAC / water heater source. Melinda is the contact person for the office and she is very quick to respond to phone calls or emails. The quote she sent was very clear and understandable. Some of the other contractor quotes I received were very limited on information so it was hard to determine from them what the charges were for. With Furnace Pro, I knew what I was paying for and Melinda was very pleasant to talk to about scheduling installation and any rebate / bill questions.

I called and made an appointment for a technician from Mt Vernon Heating and Cooling to come and address the issue. The initial technician was unable to fix the problem, and due to unpredictable factors, they were not able to send another technician over for the rest of the day or evening. However, the owner and his wife, after spending long hours well into the early morning resolving issues for other customers, came by personally to take care of me. They were very apologetic for the lack of communication and for my experience with the first technician, and set about right away to figuring out the problem. They had my AC repaired and running in no time, and were very knowledgeable, pleasant, and professional. Despite my initial frustration, I was very happy with the end result - I realize that factors beyond their control had derailed most of the day for them, and I very much appreciate them taking the time to stop by even though they were exhausted and it was nearly 3am. I will absolutely recommend them to others - I can't speak to the quality of any other technicians on their team, but my experience with the owner and his wife has earned them a grateful and loyal customer. Thanks!

First thing Monday morning I called Novak and spoke with Jen. Nice lady. Kind. Patient. She listened and took down all the details and shared with me they would send someone out as soon as possible. She kept in touch with me with text messages and let me know that a service person would be out early Monday afternoon. Steve arrived to take a look at the furnace. He found a few parts needed to be replaced. Steve replaced one part that got the furnace and up and running so I could have heat in the house. I made the decision to have the furnace replaced as it was 25 years old. Steve contacted Rob who came out mid-afternoon on Monday to let me know the different Carrier furnaces they carry and prices for each one. I choose the Performance level of furnace that was very much like the Bryant we currently had. Rob said he would call me Tuesday morning with install date and time. He called on Tuesday morning and we set up the install for Thursday of that same week. Scott and Ben arrived at 7am to install the new furnace. At 10am the new furnace was up and running. It felt so good to have heat in the house again. I highly recommend Novak. It took every one of these kind and professional people to get heat back into my house. I call them Team Novak.
