Such a great find!! We accidentally stumbled upon this place while walking through town. I found the prices super reasonable and the selection astounding. I felt like you'd find these items in other stores at least $15 more. Loved my tees I got and can't wait to wear the jumpsuit too! read more

The white girl who works here is sooo mean. She was rude to everyone while I was there but extra rude to my girlfriend and I which really sucks because it's hard to know whether or not it's discriminatory but it def felt weird that she was extra mean to us & that's why it's important to be nice to everybody!! I said hi to her and she didn't answer me and then was sooo upset she had to help my try on clothes and said damn aggressively when I was having a hard time carrying my pile of clothes that she asked me to bring to her. Not appropriate behavior she should not work in customer service if it's too hard to be kind to people read more

Cool vintage shop. I stumbled in thinking this was a different thrift store nearby but the selection didn't disappoint. The worker welcomed me in and was helpful during my visit. There's a variety of clothing styles from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and more. The pricing is on the expensive side and what you buy is what you get, no refunds or exchanges so i'd highly suggest trying on your items before purchasing. read more

Good stuff in here! No complaints on the business end... But there is a younger 20-somethin year old white gal who's been working the past couple times I've been there -- no hi, hello, thank you, you're welcome, goodbye, nothing! I don't expect some over exaggerated, 5-star customer service but she just comes off as very rude and unwelcoming. And on top of all that! She's got a case of bad style + music taste. haha. Being nice isn't hard and it's pretty cool! read more

I think this to be the best place for a wide variety of styles and selection for both girls and guys. Decent selection of old stock brands and Levi. Definitely worth the look. read more

Its windy out, I pop in and in less than 20 seconds I choose a light blue shirt jacket marked 48 dollars. The really tall guy rang it up adding ten dollars to the price. 58 and change went on my bank card. There is no need to rip off people on already overpriced stuff. He clearly is skimming money at the end of the day personally robbing people . Hate santa cruz. Hate him read more

The worker at the front deck had a disgusting attitude. I asked to try on a jacket and he refused to let me and proceeded to raise his voice at me. I felt very unwelcomed and if my every move was being judged. I would never recommend this store and would rather go to the many other thrift stores nearby. read more

Crazy good thrift shop. I haven't been in a few years. It's just as good as I remember. In fact I lied. It's better. The owner knows her store and all the items like the back of her hand. She can help you find anything! read more

So I was in Santa Cruz this past Sunday for my birthday/Valentine's Day. My boyfriend & I were walking around before our 3pm lunch reservation at Alderwood & passed by Moon Zoom & I saw this beautiful kimono on a mannequin in the display window-- Now, I'm really big on souvenirs, especially when a trip is as memorable as this one. I was wanting an iconic Santa Cruz hoodie or t-shirt, but when I saw this fuscia & blue kimono, I was in love. I asked the lady working how much it was & she didn't seem very excited about me inquiring about the window display & said it was hard for her to get back there. I did notice that there were some racks in the way but not to the point that it was impossible to move them & reach over to look at the tag. But fine. She also told me that they can't sell anything from the window display until they change it out-- WHAT?! Kinda counterintuitive of having a window display at all. Why are you going to have clothes you're trying to sell on display in the window if you aren't even going to sell them to customers on the spot? So frustrating. Not her fault, it's management's call I guess? Anywho, I told her I was only in town for the night & really wanted the kimono so she said I could leave my number after so-&-so gets in at 3pm who I assumed would be the one making the decisions. What a nice gesture I thought. Well I didn't get a call from her at all. I got anxious & called them after lunch to check about the kimono again. Not sure if I talked to the same lady or the person that relieved her, but they said they had my number, reiterated to me they can't sell anything off the window displays, & when I explained that I was only in town for the night, she said "Okay, let me text my boss right now & I'll call you back." Great! I was excited because maybe they'd make an exception since a customer was heavily inquiring about an item in the window display. Well, no call-back. No call-back to let me know the boss is letting it slide this one time. No call-back to say sorry my boss is out of town or busy or let me keep your number on file so that maybe we can ship it to you if you still want it when we change out the window display. Not even a call-back to let me know the boss is keeping their foot down & they absolutely do not sell items in the window because they have a difficult time improvising window display outfits. Nada. Zilch. Absolutely disappointing. read more

After seeing the prices of a vintage store nearby I was a little worried SC was one of those overpriced vintage hot spots *cough* SF Marina District *cough* but their prices were fantastic. They had a great selection with their items priced fairly in quality and current state and though I didn't end up finding anything (looking specifically for pink/beige shoes and a purse), I have a feeling if I were looking for a certain type of costume or for a specific era dress (what! Meg never dresses in vintage era dresses! How dare you!), this place would be the one to stop by in an effort to find it. Oh honey... I need an 80's green velvet prom dress and matching shoes... can we go to Santa Cruz this weekend? read more

Though I wish Moon Zooom had a bigger old rock T-shirt selection I was fascinated with their formidable puffy vest selection, thin vintage plaid and checked shirt selection and just their overall well curated store. I could have easily spent half a day in here exploring all of their colorful and reasonably priced clothes. The guy at the front desk was also very personable and I could just tell by the way he was steaming clothes behind the counter and the quality of all of the ware - that Moon Zooom puts a ton of heart into each and every chosen item in the store. Trust. read more

Love Moon Zooom!!! Came in here yesterday for the first time! So much to look through. Tons of cute vintage sweaters. I ended up picking up this cute vintage vest. Moon Zooom - Vintage heaven - Costumes Near Me - Santa Cruz, California

I've had my incredibly good days and my downright weird days at Moon Zoom. I used to be a regular in here, coming in once a week when I had a doctor appointment and more than usually dropped a few dollars on something. I have scored some great deals and some incredible vintage finds. The guys working in the shop have always greeted me with a smile and took the time to learn my name and remember me when I came back. I LOVE that about little vintage shops...it's one of the things that keeps me coming back (aside from the vintage!). I've ran into who I believe to be the owner running the shop on a couple of occasions but now steer clear of the shop whenever she is working. I felt like I was being followed and watched like a hawk the entire time, and she kept telling me she had things "in my size" that I should look and I felt like it was a little pushy. I once had to just slowly back out the door while she tried to pitch a dress to me that I had no interest in. I just didn't feel very comfortable, and had to come back the next day to buy a circle skirt that I had wanted. There's a great selection from Victorian era up to the 90s. Most decades are separated, making it easy to find things. My one BIG piece of advice when shopping here is to heavily inspect the garment before buying. I bought a beautiful 40s dress and came home and I had noticed that it had a huge hole in the armpit that had been glued...yes GLUED together. I only found this out when trying it on when I got home and the glue "seam" busted right open. It's going to damage it more just to remove the glue just to stitch it back together. Who in their right mind glues vintage clothes back together? I've found several other items in the shop that were patched back together with glue. So take the time to really look stuff over. Otherwise, pretty decent pricing on stuff and lots to look at. read more

To an outsider, Moon Zooom is literally out of this world. But to long-time residents of Santa Cruz, this place just offers spice to your everyday outfit. popular to college students for their costumes and funky clothes to make halloween outfits, I enjoy shopping here year-round for all their historical and vintage qualities. I've learned that I will never like 1950's clothes. nope! No easter colored sunday dresses for me! This place can be a hit or miss, and you really have to explore to find the goods. That being said, this place is great for experienced thrifters. Prices can be a bit steep, but fair. They're not trying to be a Goodwill here. You know what else this place is good for? Shopping while waiting for your 2-hour wait to eat at Zachary's. read more

This reminds me of the old thrift stores in Berkeley from the 90s. They have nice stuff, but don't expect bargains. It almost felt like full retail prices. I wish it was better organized but it felt like they just hung anything at the nearest rack. Saw a nice 50s wedding dress next to a pair of 80s leather pants which was by a Capote-like jacket. Nice stuff, but I like Goodwill and Salvation Army more since they have better prices and more organization. read more

By far one of my favorite places in Santa Cruz. A shop like no other, this place has given me all of my most coveted garmets for years. Notably, a Albert Camus t shirt, a vintage Mc. Truly for those who want something fun and different. read more

I am a second hand junkie and a thift store queen and I learned something new today. Vintage second hand stores are pricer than traditional thift stores. When I first walked Into the store the cashier with the Glasses looked up from his book, but said nothing. Wow really?!? I would have much rathered him not to look up at all, ok whatever. The store had a lot of thibgs from a lot of different eras, but all the super cute stuff was 4 sizes to small. I saw some pretty cool pants on the wall so asked the cashier where I could find more like them. He directed my to check the wall behind the dressing room, in a very monotone voice :-/. I didn't find the pants, but I did find a really nice lime green and orange skirt from the 70s and guess how much it was. . . 19 $$$. Sheesh that's not bad for a pair of shorts from a new store, but 19 for some used shorts, ahhhh vintage 2nd hand store. When I got to the counter to pay, the zombie cashier said, "ya done?" and gave me my total. He didn't say have a good day, find everything ok, or nothing. Smh read more

There are some unique treasures, and this is definitely a great stop if you are looking for different colored petticoats. Sadly, I did not find anything worth purchasing. This Moon Zooom is WAAAAAY better than it's skankier cousin over the hill. Three cheers for the only thing Santa Cruz does well-shopping ! I've noticed that what want in a vintage shop is not what everyone else wants. I don't know what you're looking for, but I'm into cowboy shirts, wool skirts, cute peep-toe heels, twinsets, and Levi's. This place has everything I want, as well as all those tacky muu-muu's, short dresses, bell bottoms, and polyester shirts that prevail in every vintage clothing establishment. I also like that this place is decidedly vintage, not those hybrid vintage stores that also sell boutique items at a ridiculous price. Every time I go, I see a ton of cute stuff I didn't see last time, so it would appear this place has a good umm, circulation ? Whatever, the things that leave and the things that come in are great. Also, I love the coupons you get with most purchases. They sure do keep me coming back ! The staff is friendly, too. read more

Really amazing space with tons of vintage options. It seems like everything is in pretty decent condition or just funky/unique/awesome enough to be worth the price. Some items seem on the pricey side for what they are but thats all relative I guess if you really want something. Went in looking for classic biker jackets and found three! two women's and one mens for about 70 dollars each. so great. read more

This place sucks. The store is way too packed with stuff, it's all dusty and old. Goodwill and Salvation Army have nicer stuff that smells better and is about 10-20 times cheaper. The staff is pretty rude. Further they don't do returns. I tried to return a sweater I bought an hour earlier because I found a stain on it that I hadn't noticed in the store (probably because I was feeling crazy cramped and uncomfortable with all the shit and people everywhere). Not only wouldn't they take it when I explained it, but were all kinds of rude and kept pointing to the sign that said no returns. The way I see it, if I'm going to get old stained things that I can't return, I might as well go to goodwill and save some money and have that go to services for people who are in need, not just a greedy asshole who buys crap at salvation army and resells for way too much. read more

Some true vintage, some retro and some real contenders for the ugly sweater contest at your family or office gathering. If you're so inclined, take the time to really look through the racks to find a treasure or two but be sure and check for any "issues" old clothing might have. Prices aren't outrageous at all. The shop is crowded with racks of clothing pushed closely together, so be sure and say hello to the other customers you're likely to bump into (literally). What ruined the experience for me was the obvious evidence of theft - empty hangers, dismantled sensor tags on the floor - and when mentioned to the guy behind the counter (who was actually not at the counter, but outside talking to friends), he said it happens all the time, but he's just not a confrontational person. Ok, so then you don't mind if I walk out with a fabulous vintage piece? Seriously, if I'm going to pay for something with my hard earned money, don't tell me you ignore theft. read more

This is the best vintage store I've been to in Northern California. It's huge, and the selection is great for coats and jackets, dresses, tees, tops, and bottoms from all eras. I noticed some woman named Josephine complained multiple times about how she doesn't understand how the space is organized. Many items are organized into sections/racks by sellers, as is common in many large vintage and antique shops. I also believe the sellers set the prices; at least in some cases they may be on consignment. Some people are happier rummaging at the Goodwill, which hangs shirts in rainbow order, but if you are looking for some really stylish and great quality vintage clothing, I would recommend you go here instead. read more

Overpriced, vintage for costume wear. I came into this store with high hopes until I saw that most items were priced at around 20 bucks a pop. This would be a cool place to go if you were searching for a costume to wear to a 70's-themed party. If it's everyday vintage or just second-hand bargains you are looking for, you are better off going across the street the the Salvation Army. An extra star for their wide selection. Minus two stars for their gouging prices. read more

Like any vintage store you really have to dig for the good stuff. Fortunately for Moon Z ooom SC the dig is worth it! I don't often leave with something, but the things I do purchase are pretty fantastic. Over the years I've come home with my go-to black velveteen circle skirt ($18), a lavender scalloped crinoline ($18), a gorgeous blue silk Mad Men-esque 60's dress ($26), a white mink collar ($18), a thrashed strapless taffeta dress (perfect for a zombie! $10) and also a plush, baby blue, real fur stole ($26, because they thought it was fake!). While browsing I've also discovered a plethora of roller skates, bowling shoes, kimonos and yukata, beaded cardigans (available in both tacky and cute varieties) and turn-of-the-century undergarments in the back room. I prefer the Santa Cruz location to the San Jose one because I'm more likely to find something in the age range that I favor, namely 1940's-60's. You're more likely to find 70's to 90's at the San Jose location. read more

Yuck. If I hadn't been to the one in San Jose I probably would've thought this place was pretty cool, but the selection is disappointing and there is barely standing room among the overstuffed racks of clothing. Go to the one in San Jose, it's ten times better. And bigger. read more

Such a cute boutique with amazing pieces! Tons of cool vintage clothes. Leather jackets galore! Tons of 50s and 60s style dresses if you want that "new look". Cute 70s tees, 80s jeans and jean shorts! Also lots of cool accessories, especially sunglasses. The employees are really sweet and helpful. I was looking for a specific style 90s dress, and while they didn't have the exact style I was looking for, one of the employees pulled out tons of similar pieces to show me other options they had. My only issue is the prices, which are way too high for a vintage shop. Not insane (20$ for a teeshirt, 75-100 for a leather jacket) but I know that's to be expected in an expensive city like Santa Cruz--and the clothes really were one of a kind. Regardless of the prices, this store is definitely worth a visit! It really highlights the uniqueness of Santa Cruz and you'll find some clothes you won't find anywhere else! read more

On the day I stopped into Moon Zooom I wasn't able to find anything that was worth buying, but there were plenty of things to try on because they were too hilarious to pass up. A spandex body suit circa the late 1980s complete with crazy random checkered patches and cut-outs? Sure! A lavender disco dress? Why not? Prom dresses that you're not certain were fashionable even when worn in their original decade? Bring 'em on! I wouldn't say it's overpriced (by my NYC and SF standards), because the prices were comprable to other vintage stores in the neighborhood. If I lived in Santa Cruz this would be the sort of store that I would check periodically because of the hit-or-miss nature of vintage shopping, but alas, I had just a single day to sift through its racks and racks of wearable art. read more

Moon Zoom...I don't know what to say. Ive been shopping there for years. Never disappoints. Honestly, 1st non grocery store I have visited since SIP.The store was heartbreaking today. In general I like the place, over priced but has a unique collection. And I'm a collector of quality unique vintage items. So I try calling for a week to see if anyone will be in to view my items. their phone line is dead. I make the long drive to go in. And am even patient when the older women at the front is far from friendly and demands I wait while she helps a load of people. I do so patiently seeing she's flustered. I get it work can be tough. Well she finally gestures for me to come forward. I show her my items she glanced for 30 seconds and and says "no nothing I need, maybe if I was in a better mood I'd look" ... are you effing kidding me!! Lady I just drove an hour to here and told you that. And because you mad, doing your job you can't give me the time of day. Then she fallows me out of the store and starts asking me 20 Questions when I tell her to fix her phone line so I don't waste my time. Asking me stuff like I'm a Verizon tech.
