This extreme heat we have been having has been creating havoc with our Sweet Bay Hubbard tree we purchased from Moon Valley Nursery back in 03-03-2026. We met up with Marc, who handed us off to Kyle, he was awesome, he was able us to give us detailed instructions and guidance on how to care for our tree. Kyle also answered all our questions regarding our heat stricken Sweet Bay Hubbard, as well as a small Oak tree planted by our new home builder and a small golden barrel cactus that we have on our back yard. Terrible experience. Last April, we purchased four King Palms and one Strawberry Tree from Moon Valley. Before buying, we specifically asked multiple employees whether the Strawberry Tree would do well in our climate. We were assured not once, but twice, that it would thrive here. One salesperson even told us they had tested Strawberry Trees specifically in our desert climate and confirmed they were heat tolerant. We chose not to use Moon Valley's planting service because we already have a professional landscaping crew that handles our projects. This wasn't our first time planting trees in the desert. We followed all of Moon Valley's instructions, including the watering guidelines provided in their pamphlet, and used the recommended soil conditioner and Moon Juice at planting. For the first month, the tree appeared healthy. Then summer arrived. Almost immediately, the leaves began drooping. We increased hand watering and contacted our salesperson. We sent photos of the tree, our irrigation setup, the dripper output, and our watering schedule. He confirmed that the tree was receiving adequate water but suggested additional hand watering, and another application of Moon Juice because the tree appeared stressed. We followed every recommendation. The tree briefly showed signs of life with a few small leaves emerging near the base, but for the remainder of the summer it looked like a Charlie Brown tree, barely hanging on. When temperatures cooled, we pruned the dead branches in hopes of encouraging new growth. A few leaves emerged on one side, but the tree never recovered. We later had an arborist on our property to thin our sumac tree, and he told us he doubted the Strawberry Tree would survive the winter. Surprisingly, it did survive the winter, although it looked weak and unhealthy. Now that the heat has returned, it is dying all over again and appears to be beyond saving. What's especially frustrating is that the two King Palms visible in the background of the photos were purchased from Moon Valley at the same time and planted by the same landscaping crew. They are healthy, thriving, and proving that the planting and watering methods were not the issue. The reality is that Strawberry Trees simply do not appear to handle our extreme desert heat nearly as well as we were led to believe. In speaking with someone on Nextdoor, I discovered they experienced the exact same issue with a newly planted Strawberry Tree purchased from Moon Valley. The difference is that Moon Valley planted theirs, so it was replaced under warranty. Unfortunately, because we chose not to use Moon Valley's expensive planting service, we are out approximately $650 on a tree that was recommended to us as being well-suited for our climate. In my opinion, Moon Valley is very eager to sell high-priced trees, but when a product fails despite the customer following their instructions, they do not stand behind it unless you also paid for their planting service. I truly do not believe having them plant this tree would have changed the outcome. Needless to say, we will not be purchasing from Moon Valley again. read more

Carlos calked me and gave me a detailed report on my tree, he was extremely knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I was nervous about my tree, but felt much better after talking to him. I would appreciate it very much if you could please send Carlos to service my tree on my next scheduled appt which is in Oct. On a score of 5 bring the highest, I'd give him a 10! Moon Valley removed a dead tree and planted a new one with warranty and protection+. The crew showed up and got the new tree planted very fast and made it look good. Unfortunately the new tree got borers and damaged the tree. Marc H. worked with me to pick a new tree and get it planted. I got Protection+ so the tree will get the care it needs after planting. Carlos Z. has done two of the Protection+ visits and is very knowledgeable. He explains how the tree is doing and gets to work on pruning, treating the soil and adjusting irrigation. This is an update to my last review. So since then, they made moves to fix my problems with everything. They did contact me to see if they could do something to help me, and they set up an arborist to come over to look at the tree to make sure it is doing well. Scheduling it went well. To be 100% honest, the thing that happened before was about to happen again - day of visit, I was originally given a time of 8am-11am for the visit. 11am came and went, no one here, so I called in to see what was going on. They said they would try to find out. The arborist, Chris, called me back to say that on his schedule I was the last place to visit and he wasn't sure why I was told 8-11. So an error was made somewhere in scheduling and communicating that with me, but it was just a mistake - he still was here pretty close to the expected time. Also, he told me that messages have been going to peoples' text spam folders lately. I didn't even realize I had a spam folder for texts. So yep, there was where it went. That explains the lack of contact on the original delivery. It still was extremely late, but that is why I didn't hear via text at least. Also, he told me that the trees are loaded on their side because the leaves would fly off during transit if they were standing, but they should have been carefully laid down to not hurt the tree. So it's fine that it arrived laying in the truck bed the way it was. He checked everything from soil health to irrigation, told me that the tree is naturally the way it is and nothing would end up killing the tree, and alleviated a lot of my worries about the tree slowly dying. He adjusted the watering a bit as well for me, and explained everything I had a question about. They did a really good job of fixing the issue for me though, and I appreciate that. Now I'd feel comfortable shopping from here again. Like I said, I really do think the customer service during sales and the quality of trees are top-notch here, and I didn't want to just get rid of my tree, I really like it. The only thing I would hope would be better in the future is a phone call on delivery days to lock down time expectation - not just relying on the texts, but a live human calling to say they were on their way, or to verify they are coming for a delivery that day - something. It would make the customer feel like they were set for the day and at least we know they are coming. Otherwise though, everyone I talked to afterwords have been great at helping me and taking care of the complaints I have. They went through a lot to do me right as a customer, and I appreciate that. read more

Pro Care warranty and service is amazing! Highly recommend to add this on for servicing your beautiful trees and shrubs. For a year, the guys stop by 3x and check on all the plants, recommend any changes, like watering, maintenance, etc, and then trim/fertilize/mulch as needed. They can also remove stakes too. My 1st visit was with Justin, who walked my husband and I through the yard and explained different care instructions. Ulises was who stopped by recently for the 2nd visit. He is also professional and communicative. I really appreciated how nice both guys were to work with. I felt relaxed with them at my home and walking me through the Pro Care process. Ulises went ahead and trimmed some trees, fertilized and added mulch. They look amazing!! He also removed one stake because my tree was growing so well. The other stakes we can review at the next service. I'm so pleased with Moon Valley and how well they take care of their customers. A beautiful yard is a big investment and maintenance is important. This one is going to be long ... I was very impressed by the quality and variety of trees and plants at Moon nursery. I was looking to replace a couple of trees in my yard and met Eric. He was knowledgeable about the trees I was looking for and worked wonders to help me stay within my budget. If you come here, ask for Eric! The crew that came to remove the existing trees and to plant the new tree trees were very respectful of my property and my neighbors. They also did a great job cleaning up after themselves. The only downside to this experience was the lack of communication. I was initially told the existing trees would be removed then a few days later the new trees would be planted. However two weeks passed and no communication was received about the tree removal. After calling Moon nursery a few days before the new trees were to be planted. I was informed Eric was out of the office for the week, and there was no information about the removal and planting of my trees. I called them every day for three days and was told each time someone would call me back. For the first two days, no one returned my phone calls. On the third day, I spoke with Aldo and he told me the trees were scheduled to be removed and planted on the same day. However, when the day came the crew that plants the trees told me they do not do tree removal. I was able to get a hold of Eric and he stated scheduling his handled through their corporate office and he would investigate what happened and follow up with me. I'm not quite sure what happened, but Eric did manage to get us on schedule for the tree removal, have 811 come out to mark any buried lines, and schedule the new trees to get planted. I was happy with the work, and Eric was very pleasant to work with; the only setback was the miscommunication. read more

Carlos (tree care specialist) came by to do the Protection + (3 times a year visit) first visit. He pruned the bottom leaves so that the tree could have a better airflow. He fix those metal wires attached to the 2 wooden poles that hold up the tree for the first 2 years. They were crooked from the heavy winds we had this past spring. He resurfaced the tree well to be even wider. Carlos recommended that I try to water 35 minutes per watering day. My landscaping guy set me up for 30 minutes. He used the Landscape Soil Conditioner and Moon Juice. He said the only bad news was that he found a grub and he gave me a Grubs sheet with a picture and name of the product to get. He also moved my 4 sprinklers out further so that the water doesn't hit the tree trunk directly. Because I pointed out a concern about the water hitting the tree trunk and it looked like a scar or some sort of sunburn. I didn't realise that our tap water had so much salt in it that eventually it would penetrate the outer layer and eventually kill off the tree. Carlos recommended that you use the Moon Juice (once a month) mix 1 cup with 5 gallons of water. He said to water it 4 times a week (unless it's over 110 degrees and then you add another day. Another suggestion was to keep the mulch off the trunk (about 2 to 4 inches). 2 months from this visit to apply soil conditioner. I let Carlos know that I had 3 of Moon Valley Nurseries products on hand. He said just worry about the Moon Juice and I will take care of the rest. I also mentioned that I was using Neem Oi Concentrate (for the grubs). But he told me the negative effects that the product could have. I asked him if the Systemic Insecticide was on hand and he said yes. When I stopped by a few months back to buy the 3 products, I asked the staff member if they had grub killer and he said that it was not in stock. Overall, Carlos gave me really truly above and beyond outstanding customer service. It was a pleasure to meet him. My only small concern was why there was a previous cancellation and he said that MVN was in the process of hiring more staff. Tree care specialists are very critical to the success of a new tree from either thriving or just plain dying if you don't enroll in the Protection + Program. Once again thank you very much Carlos and I will be looking forward to my 2nd visit this fall. read more

My son and I went to pick out several Items for the back yard. They greeted us when we arrived and we walked through and out to the plants in the back. This is a large area with a great selection. We were there for 20 to 30 minutes and selected several items. Of course they were large and we needed a cart however not a single person came by or asked if they could help us. Then just goes, the plant you are looking for is back there. He didnt walk me over or help me additionally. He just sat at his desk. We usually go to star nursery so I was surprised at how unhelpful moon was. I could not figure out where the plant was at moon, no one came out to help, so I just left and went down the road to STAR NURSERY, where someone walked me over and showed me exactly where the plants I was looking for are. Always the best service! Their selection of plants and trees is like no other. I appreciate their professionalism, and that they keep true to their warranty without any excuses. We bought several gorgeous trees there, and yes, they were very expensive. But, they had a warranty, and with the desert climate of extreme heat and cold, they didn't quite make it, but their management changed them out a few times without hesitation, and a manager even came to our home to see the irrigation to give us some pointers and to make sure everything was working properly. So much better and more reassuring than smaller companies that don't respond or make excuses when issues arise. I'd like to try their design services too someday. I highly recommend MV! read more
