Quite a beautiful and peaceful place! We stopped in for dinner to celebrate my birthday had a great…read moreexperience. Our server was great and super charismatic. She made us feel quite at home. The dining room felt like a rustic lodge or chalet, with large windows for easy viewing of the surrounding landscape. Each course was delicious, full of so many flavors and textures. I had the Beef Wellington and my wife had the Skirt Steak. Both cuts were cooked precisely as ordered. Dessert was the Lychee & Coconut dish. It was tart but savory, and was a great way to wrap up the meal. Will most definitely be back!

Our Gwenivere "suite" needs for updating to justify the price. A separate bedroom from the living makes it an actual suite. Replace the massive old world style estate bed, armoire. and supersoft broken down mattress. Bed stands need USB re-charging ports. Replace cheap plastic walk-in shower insert with contemporary faux stone panels. Update the website. The room views are parking lots, not river water. Ditch the kitchenette. Who does their own cooking in a $400 pet nite "suite". The Edge restaurant was ok but not great. The soup was very good. Squash I think. Seasoned nicely. The strawberry avocado salad was innovative but lackluster taste. I think they forgot the vinaigrette. The Chilean Sea Bass was thoroughly broiled perfectly. Very savory cooked mushroom and vegetable base. Shrimp in angel hair pasta was spoiled by a heavily salted creamy tomato sauce. The dessert of lychee coconut mousse was good. Very tasty flavors. Expecting an Inn of this rating Notably to see prime beef and pork dishes. Galena is in the Midwestern Heartland that produces the finest corn fed prime beef and pork in the world. This menu features grass fed lean meats in the Beef Wellington, Veal Strip Loin, and Elk Chops. If you like very lean meat cooked rare in order to retain any juices at all, this part of the menu is for you. Why people waste money on tasteless meat is a mystery. Free breakfast was ok. Tasteless Scrambled eggs did not appear to be fresh cracked. No toast. No glasses for juice. Sausage was good. No salt & pepper.

We couldn't find door 9 which was frustrating late at night with no one to call. It was the only door inside another door where both 9&10 were. Once in the room someone else's food was in the fridge. We needed the fridge to put food in and had no choice to put our food in a fridge that was not cleaned out. The fridge and A/C tan all night and that bothered my husband. The rest of the room looked clean, the beds were pretty comfortable. You have to remember your at an older motel, so it was dated. The other issue was in the morning a big dog ran at me growled and barked. I'm very nervous with dogs I don't know. The owner did not pick up on the fact that the dog terrified me... he just said no but did not grab the dog. Despite those things I do feel as though Arthur tries to make you comfortable, he apologized for the food in the fridge. It is quaint and it's beautiful hill country. I also learned the next morning that he drew a map on the envelope for where to find our room. I would have appreciated if he had described it over the phone. I can see the effort that was made. They do bring you coffee and cream in the morning and we were brought cookies. Having a fridge that was not cleaned out led me to wonder how well everything else is cleaned. I don't mind dated as long as it's clean and comfortable. There's room for improvement.

The host was very nice and cooked for us an amazing three course breakfast each morning. It was like we had a gourmet meal unlike our usual breakfasts when we go out and certainly not like what we eat at home. We really enjoyed the other guests at breakfast and our 5:00 happy hour with a plate of cheeses and crackers with wine was wonderful. Sometimes we spent up to two hours or more just sitting around talking with them. The host even went out of her way to purchase beer for us which made it extra special touch for us. Thank you so much for making our first experience a good one. Highly recommend!

We decided to do a Bed & Breakfast instead of a hotel. We got room 5 which has a clawfoot tub in the bathroom, 2 windows (one with a view to the street, the other with a view to their landscaped area) which had a lot of space. The hosts offer a cocktail hour at 5:00 with a fresh snack and a few drink choices. Breakfast is made fresh daily and varies from day to day. The location is excellent; at the end of a quiet street yet 3 blocks from all the shops in downtown Galena. Very close to a couple tourist attractions. The hosts are very attentive and helpful and have been doing this for many years (yet are selling the place...)
