We walked in on a Friday night. They were busy. I walked up to the bar and asked if we wait to be seated, I got a curt "yes". No- would you like a drink while you wait-we'll be with you shortly- nothing. Just yes. We were the only ones waiting for a table. Waitresses kept squeezing by us as we hadn't anywhere to stand or sit, the bartender never said another word to us, actually not one person said anything to us. We just stood there, after10 minutes I had had enough of feeling in the way and invisible, we left and will never go back. I can't critique their food cause I never got any. We found this place returning to Illinois from the Indy 500 this year and were able to sneak in just before they closed. It was a bit old school with the salad bar and basic condiments but it was delicious. The service was outstanding and to have a charcoal grill inside the restaurant was a special treat and the food we had was outstanding. I'm of two minds about the Moon-Glo: On the one hand, as an authentic country roadhouse relic, the Moon-Glo is about as close to the genuine article as you're going to find in 2016. This place allegedly opened in 1962 (?), and it looks like the decor hasn't been updated since then, unless you count the beer signs and some sports stuff and flat-screen TVs on the wall, and some video poker machines. There's a long old bar, low ceilings, dim lighting, and a big dining area that seems to consist of big folding tables covered with plastic checkered tablecloths. There's also a big open grill right up front, apparently for steaks. Five stars on atmospherics. We were hurtling down I-74 from Ohio to Springfield and were looking for something independent and different for a lunch stop. We found it at the Moon-Glo. At least at lunchtime, though, the food was pretty damn disappointing. At least on this occasion. There's a lineup of sandwiches, with the burger and ground pork tenderloin being the specialties here. (Little did we know that the tenderloin thing is apparently a regional specialty.) They were big mammajammas for $6 each, I'll give the Moon-Glo that. And the toppings--lettuce, pickles, & onion served together in a basket--were fresh. (No tomatoes, unfortunately.) But these things, the burger & pork tenderloin both, were seriously flavor-deprived: Little or no seasoning, and so cooked through as leave no juiciness behind. I think I'd call this flavor "grey." Crinkle cut fries & onion rings were not as inexpensive, and the fries were very much of the bland frozen variety. The bartender/server on duty was nice enough. I should note that barely anybody was at the Moon-Glo at mid-day. I imagine the good-times vibe at the Moon-Glo will be amplified significantly with a crowd around you and a beer or three in you, and that your perception of the food's flavors will be enhanced accordingly. read more

Hubby ordered hamburger and I ordered grilled tenderloin with all the fixins. Both were good, I just wish they would use some seasonings for a little more flavor. Came here with several coworkers after a 16 hr-workday. Most kitchens that we checked closed by 9 on a Friday so we were glad Moon-Glo was still open until 9:30. There is a definite smell of grease in the air as you walk in. We were sat right next to some slot machines. I ordered a water and got a bottle of water with ice in a red solo cup. I don't think they have a fountain so all drinks are probably bottles or cans if it's not liquor. I got the cheeseburger since that's apparently what they're known for. It was definitely one of the biggest burgers I've ever eaten (see photo of hand for reference). The beef wasn't seasoned so I had to slather it in mustard and ketchup. Otherwise, it was a standard diner burger. I got some cauliflower on the side (all the sides are fried so don't come here expecting to eat healthy :P). It was pretty tasty actually, and I would recommend it. My coworker got some cheese sticks that were not as expected, not bad but the cheese is not mozzarella. All in all, I can safely say this is an experience that I've never had and probably never will again haha read more

They also have a charcoal grill that you can cook your own steak and chops on for dinner. There is a small salad bar that I believe comes with your dinner. the food, service, prices, atmosphere....everything at the moon glo is perfect. walk in past the bathrooms (the men's has a urinal that goes to the floor....old school perfect) and the bar is on the left and the grill (yes, you grill your own steaks) is on the right. besides the bar and grill, there are multiple eating tables in an L-shaped building. if not cooking a steak, order a moon-burger....the damn thing is huge. the sides are mostly fried, but all very good. grew up in danville and if anyone ever goes home with me, i take them to the moonglo, no one is ever disappointed. though some are outdated, enough tvs to watch the games on saturday. read more

Before my boyfriend took me to the Moon-Glo Inn he kept warning me on how it is very informal. Its pretty much a bar with a indoor grill and a small fixin' bar. If you order a steak, they will throw the steak on the grill for you and you can cook it anyway you want. There were a variety of seasonings and melted butter on on the grill. The food is just ok... over priced definitely. The service is good, but the owner is not a very friendly person. The cheese sticks are amazing, very unique... but none of the meats have any seasoning on them (hamburgers, chicken or pork tenderloin). You get decent size servings, but the flavor is lacking. Not sure why Moon-Glo gets such a high rating unless you want only deep fried appetizers taken out of the freezer and a menu of four choices. And I hope you don't want Bar-BQ sauce or honey mustard with your chicken tenders or chicken sandwich because that would be way to much of a stretch. You can have ranch or ranch. Lastly don't ask for water outside of a bottle because they will let you know they can't serve their well water. Makes you scratch your head wondering if they use bottle water in all their food preparation or is some of that non approved well water in it. It is an experience that I won't forget nor will the young gal that dumped $100 into the slot machine and lost it faster than I could pay my bill in cash, seeing they won't take credit cards if less than $25. read more
