This is a lovely library, and I was thrilled to discover it. Though I don't recommend coming here if you are trying to study. It's loud! I've come multiple times, and it's more of a daycare, over run with crying babies and screaming toddlers running around. Also those in the quiet section blast movies where the sound goes over your quiet headphones. I'm here currently and someone is blasting a war movie. The staff doesn't seem to enforce the noise level, nor do they seem to care. If you're looking for a quiet place, try another library. :( read more

They answered the phone and went above and beyond to help. I was there picking up masks as I was evacuated from my rental in Altadena. Because I had my dog and I didn't want to bring him in, they nicely brought the masks out to me. read more

This review is just for their in person kids' program. The library hosted a balloon twisting workshop and it was so fun for my kids! It was both challenging (even for me!) and rewarding and they got to bring their creations home. I loved that I could do an in person activity with my kids when a lot of other libraries only have online programs right now. Registration often fills up quickly for these kind of events so check out the library calendar and sign up ahead of time! read more

First time coming here today with my 2 year old toddler. We had a great time! This library was bigger than I thought it'd be. I like that there is ample free parking. The fire station is right next door to the library so that was a treat for my fire truck loving toddler. This library has an awesome kid/toddler/baby section! There were sliding toys on the wall and also an art cart which my toddler loved to play with. The art cart contained a bunch of arts and craft supplies such as markets, crayons, glue, tape, paper, etc. The staff here was super helpful and friendly as well. I mentioned that my son loves books about trains and one of the staffers brought me 4 books about trains. She also reminded me about the summer reading program for kids and when I mentioned that I did have my son signed up, she gave him a free book and an animal balloon. We loved our time here and will definitely be back. read more

The librarians here are exceptional. From Carrie at the front (the most helpful person EVER) to the Kids Librarian (I believe Sherry - Asian woman with really in depth knowledge of what suits your child's age) who is willing to search high and low for that one book, I cannot say enough good things about this place. Plus the library is very well lit, homey, and great. Can't wait for activities. One thing, it's closed Fridays. read more

Library and firehouses The very first library in Montrose started in 1926 and because of the growing population of the area ended up being bounced around in several places. Finally by 1961 it was obvious that a new and larger, permanent building was needed. So the town decided to constructed a building to house both the new library and the firehouse. As odd as it seems the library firehouse combination seems to be relatively common and I've seen it in other towns. Well, I'm not sure whatever happen to the firehouse but the library was finished and opened and even though it's been renovated and expanded several times, still is in that location. The library is simple but very pleasant. Easy to find tables and chairs to sit on but not a whole lot of cozy little spots where you can be all by yourself. The wifi works well and the books and materials are well organized. The librarians were extremely pleasant and helpful and even though it's a small library nothing seems crowded or cramped. A very nice, branch library that serves the town of Montrose very well. read more

Stop buying books. It's a waste of money unless you need to fill a massive Great Gatsby style library. Although, in that case, you're probably super rich and can afford to buy as many books as you want. But if you're a broke fuck like me, the library is a godsend. I can read whatever I want without having to worry about breaking the budget. And, if a book is REALLY good, I'll buy it to add to my tiny little IKEA bookshelf. "But Ronan, if I go to the library, won't I have to talk to people!?!?" No, silly! You order online and wait for them to deliver the book to your branch then you go pick it up. AND AND AND they have automated checkout machines. No human interaction required. Yay! Well, that's not 100 percent true. Yesterday I had to talk to a clerk because the barcode on the checkout machine was being weird. It was embarrassing because I had hoped to walk out of the library with my copy of Tom Brady's "The TB12 Method: Tips For A Lifetime of Sustained Peak Performance" without having to talk to anyone, but had to talk to the clerk. I think she thought I was a creep, but fuck it. I'll be the one laughing when I'm sustaining peak performance! read more

This 5 star rating goes to Ms. Sherry! I'm so glad I went yesterday with my son for story time. Ms. Sherry is AMAZING! We sang songs while she played the ukulele and she used a projector for the song lyrics. The program went really well overall and we really enjoyed our time there. read more

OK - the selection of books is not so hot, and the building is somewhat old. BUT what makes this one of the best libraries around is the staff! The front desk staff is friendly & courteous and knowledgeable and the childrens' librarian is excellent - I have two kids who love to read, and she always gives us great suggestions. If I have a specific topic I want one of the kids to read about, she'll find a bunch of suitable books for me. She knows my son likes Harry Potter, so she printed off a huge list of books that would appeal to him, for instance. Since their book selection isn't as great as some libraries, I just go online and browse the large Pasadena branch library catalogs and have books sent here to be picked up - no problem! If there's no waiting list for a book, I can usually get it within a week. If there's a hold on the book, of course it takes longer. I switched to the new La Crescenta library for a few weeks and quickly switched back - the staff at that library is not very friendly, their English is poor, and their childrens' librarian either hates kids or can't understand what kids are asking her. I gave up and quickly returned to this place! Give it a try! read more

X-men Comics Heaven. Quite simply, the amount of X-men graphics novel they have at this library is amazing. There is also quite a bit of spiderman as well. I've been out of the loop of X-men comics since my college days, and it's been a pleasure coming here with my kid and reading comics on the side. I've been catching up on new developments with my favorite superhero team and all the different versions they have out (Ultimate, Xtreme, X-factor) Jean Grey died and Cyclops is now dating the White Queen...Wow! Just wanted to get this out to the X-men fans out there. read more

This is a great library, and it is in a great location. I don't know how it hasn't been Yelped yet! Maybe the locals want to keep it a secret? Nice and clean inside, plenty of natural light. There are computers available, and I remember there being a typewriter at one point next to the copy machine. Bathrooms here are decent, and the water fountain is nice (I'm really picky). It is right next to the Fire Station, so if you are looking for some eye candy, park in the back and you can see the firefighters working out...but you're there for books, right? The Montrose library was sort of the "Goldilocks" of libraries in my area growing up, not as big as the Glendale/La Canada branch and not as tiny as the one in La Crescenta. I have not-so-fond memories of spending hours trying to figure out my Physics homework here. read more

What a lovely library with people of all ages. Quaint with great light via the very large windows. Such a great addition to a beautiful part of town. With fire department next door and Trader Joe's across the street, it really can't be beat. Staff is helpful and attentive. The parking lot is free, but very small which is the only complaint. read more

Staff is very helpful in finding things in the catalog. However, this is a smaller library so in some categories selection is limited. I would recommend going early so that the branch can help you order the books you need from other sites. Besides the helpful staff, this library also has some good study spaces (tables and chairs with good access to outlets) and a great selection of DVDs. read more

I had the worst experience at this library today. Up until today, this library had 5 stars from me. Great wifi, great seats, great lightning (i love sunlight, so the big windows are great) and a great study space. For the past week, I've sat on the same table with my same study setup (laptop out, notebook, pushed the desk towards the electrical plug to charge my laptop) and it was great. Non of the staff members seemed to care or bother me about my charging cable, but today someone complained about my cable being in the way and yes, my cable was on the floor and in the way of an aisle but everyone who walked by saw it and there is hardly anyone at this library so the chance of injury is minimal. A staff member then walked up and told me i cant have the cable there, but i feel like she would not even come to me unless someone had told her because the staff memebers never talk around my area. Another thing is that when there are people here, everyone is very loud and no one is quiet at this library. I dont see anyone complaining, I for one do not complain about this because I have my earphones in. Just my two cents to the people of the library/bratty kids. read more

The Library was designed by Architect Richard A.Ohmert, and the firehouse was designed by Architect Frank E. Moser, AIA. Their office was on Oceanview, next door to what is now the John Sparr Tavern, and both were residents of the Montrose / La Crescenta area. Richard Ohmert, also designed the the Montrose Shopping Park in the sixties, that you see today, contrary to other claims published in "The History of La Crescenta". read more

Very nice little library. Make sure to check the hours before coming down here. There is a parking lot behind the library. If you are walking past the library on Orangedale keep an eye on for cars coming out of the parking lot. A woman nearly hit me. She screamed at me that I should have been looking out for her!!! I didn't give it five stars because of the limited parking spaces and the small rooms. I was there yesterday for a Science show, which was free and my son loved it. The staff were nice and helpful and the restrooms were clean. Free wi-fi! read more

This is a small, local Glendale library. The regular staff, like Nancy, are very friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. Materials do have to be ordered from surrounding participating libraries but if you are not in an emergency situation they come along in a few days. Renewals are easy, we find it best to call the branch since the automated system does not work at times. read more

I like this library, although it is small you can order for pick up the books they might not have available on the spot. The librarians there are awesome, very kind helping and knowledgeable. Whenever I have asked for help they would do the research for me, come up with sugestions and put an order if needed. read more
