The park has a variety of play equipment, a huge sand area that even has toys that regular people probably have brought there and left. There is natural features for kids to explore, like rocks and stumps, and they also have a small handmade stream, but the time that I went, there was no water going through it. There is a baseball diamond and a walking trail around the park. There is also covered picnic area and an open picnic area and there are also even children picnic tables and some nice bathrooms. I would definitely go back because of all the natural features and the abundant shade.

It might be facing some stiff competition from the fancy Meadowbrook Park down the road, but it stills holds its own. Sometime over the last 5-7 years, they added a little "play creek" type of area that is a lot of fun in the summer time for my girls. It's shaded and a unique way to get their hands dirty. The little track around it is better suited for walking vs running, in my opinion. It's not that big, and it can be a bit crowded on a nice spring day. They also have nice restrooms and a few water fountains, so this was a good turnaround spot for me when I was doing long distance runs. I'm always in favor of good parks and this is one of many throughout Kansas City!

Bennett Park offers a quaint spot to hang out with the kids or get away for some much needed…read moreprivacy. Basically, Bennett is a square, its boundaries formed by trees on all four sides. It creates this little tucked away spot that feels rather intimate and protective. BP is using the coolest thing for landscaping ever-recycled rubber tread from tries. Colored in a rusty brown, I almost thought they were some type of wood chips until they gave way as I stepped on creating a very spongy walking experience. Do try. It's a great use of recycling-replacing the chance of splinters from wood and the reuse of materials. BP is a small park but has a pretty rockin' jungle gym along with a merry-go-round, basketball goal and miniature baseball/soccer field. I did get drunk though. No, alcohol isn't allowed in these places but it might as well have been after my stint on this other weird piece of equipment I can only describe as a one-man merry-go-round. I stood up straight while being spun around and completely lost all sense of direction and clear vision. BP should be on your list for a small getaway simply because of its quaint appeal and private ambiance.

There is also a playground that was being remodeled when I last went there on Saturday. When i went during the summer there was always kids and their parents playing on the playground. There is also a soccer field and a baseball diamond and I know some kids have their soccer practices here for recreational leagues. Even though this park is really small, it is a great place to go walking or jogging. It is really popular for this, especially in the early evenings. The trail also feeds into the neighborhood behind the park in case you want to take an extended walk.

The playground had toddler all the way to older kids play equipment. It was all newer and well-maintained and soft under footing material. The two-year-old grandchild enjoyed it and my six-year-old grandchild also enjoyed it. There was a sitting area that had a cover over it for shade. Most of the play area is in the sun, but the day that we went it was often on cloudy and windy so it was tolerable. It was not busy for a summer day. But around 4 PM two summer camps showed up so everyone left because that would've been a lot of kids on the playground.

A little PSA: the walking trail goes right by a small fishing pond and we just paid $1,200 to pull a fishing hook out of our dog's intenstines. Be super careful with your animals near there. Below you'll see photos of the pond. Notice that the nearest trash can is actually in a picnic shelter up the hill. There really should be a place to dispose of fishing line near the sign postings so that this has a lower chance of dropping on the trail and letting animals eat it.

My daughter calls it "grandma's park" because it's so close to their house, but it has a farm theme, paying homage to the land it was built on. Since it's brand new you've got some really fun playground equipment here and age appropriate swings, slides, etc. for children ranging from around 18mo - about 7. There is ample parking, it is adjacent to a walking trail, and there is even a community garden that you can enter a lottery to garden at. My mom gardens here and she absolutely loves having this community resource available. The only reason I'm giving 4/5 is because there is literally no shade on this park at all and it gets HOT in the summer months. I know it's new, but I wish they'd plan some trees surrounding the playground so that in a few years time it might be more shaded, making it easier for a family to stay and enjoy the park for more than 30 minutes so so on a hot summer day.

I noticed several access paths, two bridges, a mile marker, a large open area, a few cyclists, and a few walkers. The park was quiet, with many nature sounds, until one approached the park's west side near Quivira Road. I did not see any play areas, picnic tables, or benches, and there was no dedicated parking. Overall, very nice!
