The meeting and quiet rooms do not serve their primary purpose. I reserved meeting room #3 and there was another meeting going on next to it. The sound proofing is non-existent. It sounded like the people were in the same room. We ended up leaving because we could not talk without being heard and were distracted by the people in the other room. We could hear clearly what they were saying so it's logical to assume they could hear us too. We told person at the customer service desk that we are unable to continue our meeting due to lack of sound insulation, could we please use the available meeting room near the entrance? The person we spoke to suggested that we have the meeting outside on the patio as the one by the entrance was not for public use. It was 101 degree F outside so I said this wasn't going to work for us and we needed privacy due to HIPAA regulation. As we were walking out the customer service person asked if we no longer were using the room. Basically, her only concern was that she cancel the reservation so it was free for other people to use. So we ended up conducting the meeting in our car with the AC on as the car provided superior privacy and soundproofing. I give it one star because I can't give it 0 star. The meeting rooms look nice but they don't serve their primary function. And the customer service person is there but could not provide any customer service.

There are a lot of people of all ages and demographics, which I personally really liked. The Wi-Fi speed was actually really good which kind of surprised me! I personally wish there was a little café on the inside of the library but because it's so small and there are other places to eat in proximity, I'll let it slide. The parking is cheap In my opinion. Someone said a dollar an hour is expensive but I thought it was fine. Of course I'd rather not have to pay for parking in the library, but given that this is in downtown Bethesda, they probably want to prevent people from parking here to do other things (?). I didn't go to the bathroom so I can't speak on the cleanliness of them. There was someone who had drank alcohol in the library and had an open bottle and the librarians were quick to remove him from the premises and they did so with grace. I don't think that should impact the library rating itself because the library did what It should've done. Minus one star for having to pay for parking, no food on the inside, slightly limited tables, and not allowing eating on the inside.

Which means those books with waiting lists sometimes will be there. I bypassed that 4 week waiting period. I came initially to use one of their conference rooms. Which is huge and spacious. They have a discovery room which is a huge sensory play area that I use to take my littles that they absolutely loved. Teachers can also reserve the room during the week for a hour. However use caution. Idk if those toys are sanitized. So make sure your littles dont put it in their mouth. Lots of computers to use, or bring your own laptop. Wifi is good. However their printing is expensive... .15 cents for regular and i think .99 cents for color. They also have classes, especially if you wanna learn how to knit, or play mahjong. They also have reading time for the littles.

Lots of quiet spaces to meet with a study group or read. There are community meeting rooms both upstairs and downstairs. There is also a large Friends of the Library Used Book sale area, just to the right when you enter. Many, many free resources for county residents!

There's always study rooms available and space in the quiet study room to go to. Parking is so convenient here compared to other Montgomery County libraries. I've noticed over the last few months, there's been more parked vehicles in the lot so I'm happy to see people returning to the library during their spare time. I'm surprised I haven't written a review for this place since I've spent tons of times here sitting in the aisles, thumbing through books, deciding which were worthy to be part of my pile. Early high school me and me now have very different tastes in books, thank goodness. My favorite part of the library is the new non-fiction books section. I don't really know how the library system works, but I'm always so proud that this branch carries new, relevant books all the time. I feel like they keep us readers in mind when selecting. Buzzy books like Girl, Wash Your Face were there when I've looked for them. They have a few computer self check-outs here, so quick and convenient. Parking can get a little tight, but always so happy to see people in the library!

There's even a cafe. It's definitely more than just a library, which most Montgomery County libraries are. It's a destination!

Take the 7 minute walk over to building 38a and check out the National Library of Medicine. Most of you who visit this have probably never been to the physical compound that is the NLM. You may come across its more ubiquitous website like PubMed. However, this library does have the largest volume of medical textbooks in the world. It really is like a library and while I don't believe that you can check out materials, you can get a library card which allows you to request material items off reserve and also put cash on it to make photocopies. There is a separate room for the History of Medicine, which contains all types of materials: audio, video as well as textbooks before 1914. To the left, there is a larger reading room. Ask to get a library card and you can get one for free in about 10 minutes with your photograph on it. There are plenty of computers available, where you can scan your library bar code and have search items saved into your queue. Most of your standard reference textbooks for specialties and subspecialties are available in the main reading room. However, most other textbooks that you might be looking for, are available only if you request it at the reference desk. At peak times, it can take up to 45 minutes to 1 hour, but if you structure your time well, you can get the books in due time. One of the unfortunate things about this place, is that it can probably be difficult to come here on a regular basis if you're not part of the NIH. You have to consistently go through security and make the trek over, and the library is only open during usual daytime hours during the week. However, if you're looking to complete your research and you find yourself in the DC area, make sure that you come by. If you want to spend a full day here, get here early and get off on the Red Line Medical Center stop. If you're looking to spend only a half-day here, you can drive and park in a paid parking lot just in front of the library. Note that there is a 3 hour limit. Be forewarned, like the airport security, I believe that your car may need to go through a search before entering the compound.

Watch out for random dudes taking a nap in the grass or on the floor. Don't want to accidentally step on them. Cool little room for kids with toys and lots of books. If you help clean up the toys the librarians will give you a sticker! The staff here are helpful and friendly. Lots of self checkout stations. Bathrooms are in front of the entrance. Handicapped buttons to open the doors actually work here. Great local library!
