There's always study rooms available and space in the quiet study room to go to. Parking is so convenient here compared to other Montgomery County libraries. I've noticed over the last few months, there's been more parked vehicles in the lot so I'm happy to see people returning to the library during their spare time. I'm surprised I haven't written a review for this place since I've spent tons of times here sitting in the aisles, thumbing through books, deciding which were worthy to be part of my pile. Early high school me and me now have very different tastes in books, thank goodness. My favorite part of the library is the new non-fiction books section. I don't really know how the library system works, but I'm always so proud that this branch carries new, relevant books all the time. I feel like they keep us readers in mind when selecting. Buzzy books like Girl, Wash Your Face were there when I've looked for them. They have a few computer self check-outs here, so quick and convenient. Parking can get a little tight, but always so happy to see people in the library!

However this library is a lot smaller than Gburg or Germantown. The computers are kind of in the center and just a few stations. To my dismay, they are all clumped together. Unlike Gaithersburg where people are spaced out. I like my personal space but there are some grown folks that don't cover there mouths when they cough and sneeze...or leave their tissues on the table and not take it with them when they leave. I strongly suggest bring your own wipes and wipe down your area.. as if you were at the gym. My second ick... is the kids You have kids that will take up the computers to play Robloxs or Minecraft. The time limit is about 1 hour but the librarian will usually extend your time. My favorite part of this library is that they have a Lucky Day shelf with books that are very popular That you can get without being on a long waiting list. Maybe because I've been around the country and visit different libraries and we are definitely not like NYC -Brooklyn or Denver. Where they have tons of amenities .

The people in there are always quiet and respectful. They have a bunch of computers and access to copiers/printers/staplers/hole punches. There are tons of windows to allow light in during the day hours. It really brightens it up in there and helps make studying a little more pleasant. The staff is helpful and its always super clean.

Located in a quieter part of town right off MacArthur Blvd NW with a large parking lot in the back, Palisades Neighborhood Library is one of the smaller ones with a limited selection of books. They have quiet individual study rooms in the rear and plenty of comfortable seating. It's ideal if you want quiet time and avoid being disturbed by noise and people. I found the two nonfiction books I was looking for and a third, so I achieved my needs. I'd be back!

Take the 7 minute walk over to building 38a and check out the National Library of Medicine. Most of you who visit this have probably never been to the physical compound that is the NLM. You may come across its more ubiquitous website like PubMed. However, this library does have the largest volume of medical textbooks in the world. It really is like a library and while I don't believe that you can check out materials, you can get a library card which allows you to request material items off reserve and also put cash on it to make photocopies. There is a separate room for the History of Medicine, which contains all types of materials: audio, video as well as textbooks before 1914. To the left, there is a larger reading room. Ask to get a library card and you can get one for free in about 10 minutes with your photograph on it. There are plenty of computers available, where you can scan your library bar code and have search items saved into your queue. Most of your standard reference textbooks for specialties and subspecialties are available in the main reading room. However, most other textbooks that you might be looking for, are available only if you request it at the reference desk. At peak times, it can take up to 45 minutes to 1 hour, but if you structure your time well, you can get the books in due time. One of the unfortunate things about this place, is that it can probably be difficult to come here on a regular basis if you're not part of the NIH. You have to consistently go through security and make the trek over, and the library is only open during usual daytime hours during the week. However, if you're looking to complete your research and you find yourself in the DC area, make sure that you come by. If you want to spend a full day here, get here early and get off on the Red Line Medical Center stop. If you're looking to spend only a half-day here, you can drive and park in a paid parking lot just in front of the library. Note that there is a 3 hour limit. Be forewarned, like the airport security, I believe that your car may need to go through a search before entering the compound.

The Petworth Neighborhood Library has that wonderful OLD feeling to it. From the historic exterior…read moreto the heavy wood furniture in the reading rooms, it makes you feel like you are stepping back in time (at least, more so than many other DC libraries). Even with the old-world feel, the space is bright and cheery. The staff is a little more hands-off than other locations but I've never encountered anyone rude when I've had questions. I've attended the Tuesday toddler story/music time here and it gets pretty crowded...more so than at other libraries. I'm glad that they offer so many activities such as this, but it can seem a little disorganized. They do a great job with children's programming throughout the year (we made snow globes at an evening craft session for kids which was a big hit!). Bathrooms: located on the top floor (children's room) and bottom floor, so a bit of a hassle if you are planning on sticking to the main floor.
