Scarborough Lane Shoppes is on the east side of Hwy 12 and features undercover parking, meandering boardwalks and a variety of shops and eateries for the whole family. In this shopping center I enjoyed the Flip Flop Shops, The Christmas Mouse, Tar Heel Trading and Toyriffic. I was running out of steam a bit but I would have also liked to check out the Spice and Tea Exchange and Ella's Olive. Also, the scent wafting out of the Fudgery was tempting but I resisted! The shopping center is nicely maintained and there is undercover parking which is great for those bright and sunny days. Also, this shopping center is conveniently within walking distance of several others. Overall, this was a very nice stop.

While most of the store probably appeals to women, I am able to keep my husband busy while I shop. The Cotton Gin sells men's clothing, kitchen supplies, candy and other things that occupies his time while I leisurely stroll the multi-level store. For me, I enjoy taking my time perusing all of the goodies at The Cotton Gin like postcards, art prints, scented soaps, books, souvenirs, home décor, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and such. The store features mostly clothes for men and women and they sell brands like Tommy Bahama, Olukai, Sperry and Vera Bradley. In addition to beachy clothes and resort ware they have some shoes, handbags and accessories for adults. They also have some items for children like stuffed toys, books and such. Aside from nicer name-brand clothing, they also have some Outer Banks gear. They definitely have a higher quality selection of tshirts, sweatshirts and fleece jackets than any other store. Other items they carry include cards, puzzles and I think even taffy. The store is clean and well organized but a bit picked over in October, as should be expected.

I stumbled upon Absolutely Outer Banks a handful of years ago and I was impressed with the selection of locally made arts and crafts. Ever since, this is my go to spot for legitimate and tasteful Outer Banks souvenirs. In addition to locally made items they also have some vintage items and even some new items for sale. One item that this store specializes in is really cool resin windows that are unique and exude happiness. Absolutely Outer Banks has artwork in all mediums and in all price points. They have jewelry, wood signs, candles, prints, glass work, textiles, metal work, etc.  On my most recent visit I enjoyed looking at a vintage pin ball machine and eyeing up the beautiful array of Fiestaware. There is plenty of opportunity for ooohhhing and ahhhing.  The owner is super friendly so that adds to the overall great experience. I checked out a number of shops in Duck and was sorely disappointed. Most shirts were $20+ and/or had really lame designs. This shop allows you to pick a shirt of any color, choose your design, and have it imprinted...all for $11! The process only takes a few minutes. The owner was also super friendly and helpful in choosing the right combinations. I can't recommend this place enough!

There have been ups and downs and I just never wrote a review. I've seen them consistently stronger over the past year and they also are completing a renovation. It looks much better. My most recent visit was for a yummy poor man's frozen pizza for a golf party at the beach house. Let me explain further. Red Barron make one of the best frozen pizzas in my opinion. So by adding your own toppings you can hype your frozen pizza that runs around $5 per at Walmart. Feed 6-8 with three Red Barron Cheese pizza. Add Hormel pepperoni or turkey pepperoni. Add other items like sliced anchovies. Six pack of beer is a must. Dress your pizzas out and place in the oven per directions adding an add few minutes. For $31 (w/ beer) for all you will have the best store bought poor man's frozen pizza of your life. Self checkout smooth and friendly with assistance to check DL due to alcohol sales.
