Reviewing this as an AirBnB which it seems to be in the off season. It's Motel-codomninum. Right off the beach Wildwood Crest Beach and maybe a 1/2 mile or so to the board walk, it is only a couple miles from Cape May making a good central place to be. People came and went but it was largely deserted. I can see in the summer it's likely teeming with people here. The room we got was nice - with full size kitchen and stove which I hadn't seen in a place like this. Still had 2 beds though with a pull out one in the couch, perfect for the spring break group that wants to pile into one of these rooms. The cleaning lady was present and nice but the overall complex looks like it needs some maintenence. I assume those will be handled before the season begins since I imagine the price here will jump significantly. Plenty of lodging to choose from I'm sure they're mostly the same. Some others looked a bit better from the outside though. Not bad overall. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. With the exception of the fact that it is situated right on the beach , I would not recommend this place to anyone. This review is based mostly on the lack of hospitality and customer service given by the manager on duty. The first day there was a younger woman who was pleasant and helpful but for the remainder of our trip we had to deal with an older woman who was very rude and unhelpful. I wish I would have read the reviews because this seems to be a reoccurring issues. The rooms ,though spacious , are outdated and do little to mask the fact that the person in charge is a complete hellraiser. Save your money . Go elsewhere. Should they ever consider updating , I would hope they would aim to be more ADA qualified. My bestfriend who accompanied me uses a wheelchair and it was a bit of hassle with no ramps and small cramp quarters ( for the wheelchair) They have a lot of improving to do , and they should totally start at that manager. read more

My family has been going to Wildwood for 35+ years, most of those years having been spent at the Monterey. One thing we will always have is wonderful memories. Unfortunately, though, the property has been in steady decline with no real sign of improvement. Our most recent trip is undoubtably our last, as there is no longer any justification for staying there. The best thing the Monterey has going is it's location - it's directly on the beach on a quiet street. That perk itself doesn't warrant going there, though. Too many things went wrong this weekend for us to return. 1) Several months ago, we booked the two oceanfront rooms on the second floor. When my sister arrived, she was told the rooms had leaks and we would not be able to stay in them. There was never any phone call to inform us beforehand. My sister and brother-in-law and their 1-year old daughter wound up in a third floor oceanfront room and the rest of us wound up on the second floor (204). My sister had to argue for a price reduction due to the inconvenience and disappointment of not having the one of the rooms we anticipated. Nothing was offered - we had to argue for it. 2) The refrigerator in my sister's room did not work. This was reported to the front desk on Friday night. By Sunday, nothing had changed. No one came to check it and no follow-up of any kind was made by the desk. This would have been a major issue if they didn't have other family at the hotel. This kind of glaring disregard for customer comfort and satisfaction is offensive and inexcusable. Only on Sunday was the refrigerator issue corrected. 3) The ceiling fan light in the living room of my room did not work properly. Two of the bulbs were out, but worse than that, we could only get it to stay on by using scotch tape to keep the dimmer in a certain position. It still flickered annoyingly when in use. 4) The manager on duty each of the last 3 or 4 times we've been there seems to be ill-suited for her job. She admitted as much during one of our conversations with her this weekend. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, we said, "I know you are invested in the Monterey." Her response basically was: "No, I'm not. It's just a job." Her unwelcoming attitude is and was a turn off and is incentive enough not to return. Don't go where you're not welcome. 5) Since it's a condominium, the rooms at the Monterey are all different. Never mind decor, some owners just don't care to keep up with maintenance. As such, staying there is a hit or miss proposition and there is no incentive for upkeep of the rooms. By the way, the bathrooms haven't been updated in at least 20 years - I can remember them from when I was there as a kid. You'll get better water pressure from the waves in the ocean. We spent our last evening and last morning in Wildwood this weekend visiting other properties for our next trip down - we won't be at the Monterey. At each of the 5 places we visited, the managers/housekeepers on staff were more than accommodating and friendly. We had nice conversations with them. They seemed interested in us as people before customers, and their their passion and pride for their property were obvious. We felt much more welcome there than we have at the Monterey in years. The bottom line is there are far too many options in Wildwood Crest with comparable rates and amenities to the Monterey that are in better condition and have friendlier, more caring and attentive staff. Why not go somewhere else? read more

I'm giving Monterey 2 stars because of the location: Directly on the beach and Cleanliness: Unit 108 was very clean. Now the negative: The Manager R. is very curt and abrasive. Not one friendly bone in her body. She never smiled or had a kind word towards me or my family. Why? She was just such a miserable person that I felt bad for her. The other office employee L. was very pleasant and remember my name and waved ever time We walked by. Lets hope the condo association reads these reviews and shows Mrs. R. tape a smile on and take a class in customer service. read more

Great resort for vacation. The office staff is great. The amenities is really what makes the experience. It has 4 grills that face the beach, clean rooms, kitchens in each room, swimming pool, ping pong table (personal favorite), pool table, and two miles from the boardwalk. I highly recommended. This place is pretty awesome. You step outside and you are on the beach. The rooms are a little dated, but its Wildwood. Nothing in Wildwood is up to date really. The front desk manager, Rosanne, was awesome. She was very friendly and made sure my party and I had whatever we needed. We talked for a bit outside pool side and she was very very nice. This place also had free Wifi. It was kinda spotty at points, but got the job done. This place was worth the money. read more

This place is horrible!!! We checked in and left to attend a wedding and upon return realized the AC was not working. The management is incredibly rude and offensive. The woman running the place actually used vulgarity and threatened to f'in break my arm if I touched her bell again because I was ringing her doorbell at 11 p.m. The room was too hot to sleep in (also I was 8 months pregnant) and we could not open the windows because there were no screens. All I wanted was a room with AC. She said there were no other rooms (which seemed strange to me because there were only about 4 hotel guests). After being screamed at and having a door slammed in my face, I finally got a new room. I would never ever stay here again. This place is too far of a walk to the boardwalk and the pool is filthy. For the same price I would highly recommend going elsewhere. read more

Our stay here was great. Check-in was a breeze and had a designated parking spot, which is a mega plus, as this motel is right on the beach. Room was clean upon arrival and quite comfy. We were located on the second floor breezeway. There was a full set of dishes, which were all clean and put away neatly. During the entire stay, we only saw two ants in the bathroom. I took one star away because we could not connect to the Wi-Fi in our room. Other guests were able to connect, so I'm guessing our room was out of range. Overall it was a great stay. I read a lot of the other reviews and did not experience any of those issues. I would highly recommend. For the price and the proximity to the beach, you just can't beat it. Remember your staying at a motel that was built decades ago, not the Ritz. read more

1 star only reason was the location and how close it is to the beach, the owner is a joke I swear shes just out to harass people, who in there right mind asks the mother of a child and I quote "you better have sun screen on that kid" like mind your own business, we were staying with another couple and they kept there car on the property and when we were unloading we were told "better get that car off my lot" we even asked if we could purchase a spot since there obviously were plenty of spots available but we were denied, do your self a favor don't stay here im sure the hotel behind them will treat you like a guest read more

Outdated and old, but good location at the same time overpriced since it's so outdated. Some units especially the one we stayed in constantly have problems with A/C and since each unit is owned by privately it's impossible to blame the management. Was nice to have separate bedroom and full kitchen. The management at this place was very rude and overbearing to our children, there are rules against about just about everything that a kid would like to do. There seems to be 2 different sets of rules at this place, one for owners/friends and others for renters. On a bright note, the cleaning staff is excellent and always made sure our room was in excellent shape everyday. read more

My family and I have been going to wildwood for years and I have to say we have enjoyed ourselves every year but this one!!! The manager of this hotel is extremely rude and probably has never said the words "please or "thank you" a day in her miserable life. She doesnt know how to treat people or talk to them either. I blame the OWNERS of this motel as they allow this manager to treat people like we are garbage. I will never ever come back to this motel, it is a waste of money and vacation time. Room 209 is horrible!!!! Ask to not get this room. Mold, rust stains, caving in ceilings, fire hazards, worn out couch, bathroom sink stained... I could go on and on. Oh and the A/C that is right outside the bedroom window will keep you up all night long. I'm so mad I had to stay here for 4 days. The good things are the staff, very friendly. The location is great! The Rooms are privately owned but someone has to put a stop to renting the room that are pure gross! I plan to call people to make that happen. read more

I am Staying at the Monterey resort. I have been coming here for years! I love that- it is on the beach! It is the classic type wild wood hotel experience- We have a third floor room it was quiet and clean- with a sofa bed, kitchen and a private bedroom with 2 beds. SO much better than a cramped hotel room! My unit was tastefully decorated and had all we needed, microwave, toaster,coffee pot, dishes, TWO TV's so kids can use one and adults the other. Away from all the noise and cost of the boardwalk so my kids are not bugging us to waste money on the boardwalk every hour. There was an ice cream truck that came around and a small pizza place ( with cheese steaks and other food) we could walk to ON THE BEACH! two doors down. Vending machine and washers and dyers on the property make this my choice in the crest! No beach tags or fees! I had no issues with the staff the hard working maids were super nice, I tipped them daily and my room was always done bright and early in the day. I don't hang in the office but check in was smooth and front desk lady was helpful when I asked for some local places to eat. There are a couple places within a few blocks that sell food for eat in or take a drive 5 minutes to a super market and cook out on the gas grill and eat at the picnic tables! While watching the waves- Right on the beach!!! Family friendly prices nice deck! Cant get better than that! read more

Let me start by saying that the reason for the one star review isn't because of the condition of the hotel. It's a typical, throwback motel in Wildwood, right on the beach, very outdated, small and cloudy looking pool, but it's fairly charming and could be a nice little place to stay if it wasn't for the manager. I wish I'd read the reviews before deciding to stay here because man oh man, what a piece of "work" this woman is. First of all, when I arrived with my two children she was standing on the patio area of the hotel and did not greet me, did not smile at me, did not offer to help me in any way. She immediately and rudely asked me "what room are you staying in", and when I replied that I was staying with my mother and didn't know if I would be staying the night, (mind you it was a four person occupancy room and we were completely within our legal rights for myself and my children to stay there but she spoke to me as though we were somehow sneaking onto the property or trespassing). She then proceeded to tell me, "I'm telling you right now, those kids aren't swimming in the pool, they're not insured." Excuse me? We're paying guests and we have every right to swim in the pool. So when my sister confronted her about this she told my sister to "get out of my face" and waved her off. She then proceeded to call the police on my sister saying she was being aggressive. Uh, is this how I want to spend my money and vacation? People, save your money. There are plenty of other crappy hotels to stay in while in Wildwood and no one should have to put up with such a cantankerous old shrew. Shame on the owners for letting someone so nasty and un-accommodating run their hotel. Never again and never will any of my friends or family stay here if I can help it. Horrible witch. read more

I booked my room privately through the owner, Ray, after finding the room on HomeAway. I am giving this experience a 1-star. The Manager of this property is HORRIFIC! She is actually a trouble maker looking to stir up some drama so that she can talk about it. She lives at the condo and I can respect running a tight ship, but she is ridiculous. I stayed here for the week with my 2 kids - who are 13 and 16. I have a friend here who lives in Wildwood Crest. I invited a grad school friend down who booked her stay at the Pyramid Motel, around the corner (great staff, by the way!) as we would be close to each other and we could spend the day on the beach together. The Manager called the Owner, Ray, of the apartment because I had my girlriend visiting - she wasn't sleeping there - she was just visiting. My friend was there with her 3 children for 1 hour - we were having cheese and crackers - before meeting our other friend for dinner (no kids were screaming, our door was closed and we were all just chatting). The owner, Ray, called to yell at me for having people in the unit and giving my parking spot to my friend (I parked on the street) as it caused a legal liability. Only stay at Room 311 if you know no one, do not expect to speak to anyone or wish to be harassed by the Manager. The cleaning staff of the condo was yelling at the Manager because other guests left due to her rudeness and they didn't get a tip for cleaning the rooms.
