Recently her big brother Jackson had passed and she was left quite distraught. We figured a weekend out with numerous pets and lovers from fellow wine lovers would brighten her day. And boy did it. Montemar was a last minute addition to our schedule. We hadn't even planned on staying the night but did last minute when we found a great hotel deal that included dogs. I had been curious about the Lompoc wine scene for ages and this was the perfect opportunity. Lucky for us it was a quiet Sunday afternoon and June was given free reign of the backyard. We tasted a few flights and then opted to share a bottle of the Grenache blanc Pet Nat - perfect for a balmy Late fall afternoon. We loved the chill vibe here and would recommend to anyone with low energy pets. We can't wait to return and try out more wines and literally just chill and hang. Montemar Wines is truly enjoyable the moment you walk in. I have never had a negative experience and everyone is very amicable. The wines they feature are a combination of local wines and their own as well. I always end up finding a new favorite whenever I visit. Their most stunning feature which is perfect for large groups, is their backyard area. They have ample outdoor seating with a whimsical Giant Lawn Chair taking main stage. By far one of their coolest feature however, is their community garden with an array of foliage, fruits, and vegetables. The neatest part is when they ask if you would like a bag and a pair of scissors with the kind direction to pick as you please for added charge. Out of all the tasting rooms I have been to in the wine ghetto montemar is by far the most aesthetically pleasing. Incredible vibe, beautiful decor, and some of the best selection of Pinot Noir in the valley. Steve and his team are some of the most friendly hosts I have ever encountered and really go out of their way to make you feel like family. Best of all they really know their wine and all the intricate details of making good quality wine on the central coast. I had the most pleasant conversation with Steve and his wife about all the places they've traveled over the years and discussed all the variations of grapes and soil found in the local area. For big events they have this fantastic ( dog friendly ) outdoor patio that has all kinds of comfortable seating and fun group games like a giant Jenga set and cornhole. My friend and I stopped by here on a Monday afternoon and had a great time! They have a great selection of wines that they offer and two tasting lists to choose from. We did one of each, so we could try everything. The girls pouring were super friendly and could take about each wine and where it came from, which we really enjoyed. They have this cool chalkboard with an artistic map of the area explaining how the climate is so unique to the area. The owner came by and explained it which was really cool. We really enjoyed the wines. The price point was pretty good for the wines and we were even considering joining the wine club. The outside area is really cool with dart boards, huge chairs, and a garden. It's a great place to hang out. The only downside is they are not dog friendly, so our pup had to stay out front. They were really nice and brought her a yoga pad, water, and opened the patio umbrella. That's really the only downside to the place. We really enjoyed it and if they were dog-friendly we would probably join. If you're leaving your fur babies at home, definitely stop by and enjoy their wines! Cheers! read more

I got the chance to visit Montemar for a special event and was very impressed since it looks so unassuming from the outside. First, the location is spacious with tons of indoor and outdoor space. There are multiple fire pits and seating areas, a "beach", an herb garden, and lots of interactive games and things to do (giant Jenga, anyone?) The employees were so friendly and kind and the winemaker was there to teach us a little bit more about the history of the space and the wine. This would be a great place to visit when passing through the Lompoc Wine Ghetto with a group of friends, or to book out for an event or celebration! read more

I went here for my first yelp event and wine tasting experience! The owner Steve was super friendly and this place had good vibes all Around. I don't really drink wine, but the wine here was amazing. Not only do they have outdoor games like jenga and darts, the also have a cute little garden that you can walk through with giant sunflowers. This was the best experience we had of all the tasting rooms that we visited in the Wine ghetto, and it was the very first tasting room that we walked into. I think Michelle (Server) made this a 5-star experience for us. When we saw that the tasting flight being offered was white wines with Pinots, we almost turned around and walked out, but then she told us that she could customize our flight for $20. She poured some Syrahs (my favorite) and a few other ones, including a Cab for my husband. We really enjoyed learning about the winery from Michelle, and how the logo came about! The tasting room is huge and they have a big backyard area with a fun BIG Wine chair and lots of games like darts, Jenga, etc. If you only go to one tasting room at the Wine ghetto, this is the one to go to! read more

Montemar Wines is the first winery I've visited in Lompoc's Wine Ghetto- and it was great! The space had a good combination of indoor/outdoor seating with a very open flow. Outside, you could spend your time playing a number of games, such as jenga, corn hole, darts, and MY PERSONAL FAVORITE hoolahoop (my inner child came out and I loved this activity probably more than I should have). The space also has a really cute garden area that you can stroll around in. The wines were great and the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. My friends and I even got to meet the owner, who was super friendly and welcoming! I've been to a couple of wineries and I can honestly say that Montemar has been my favorite by far! While traveling through Lompoc, my BF and I decided to find some wineries to do some tastings. We happened upon this little spot by happenstance, and we were not disappointed! The workers were so friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was so inviting! Lauren who welcomed us in did our tastings and also offered some awesome chicken and waffles that they happened to be doing that day! She also let us do our tastings around the actual grounds which were so beautiful! She let us roam while she filled our glasses with each additional tasting. The owner then showed us all around the back garden which featured all kinds of vegetables and herbs, and he even shook out some sunflower seeds for us to try! The ambience was so charming with its corn hole games and puzzles and bean bag chairs and huge Jenga games. This was our first time at lompoc and I'm do glad we chose Montemar Wines as our first stop. When you walk in, Lane and Kyle are the first ones to greet you. They have two types of flights: one with white and reds and one with just reds. We tried both and I dont regret anything. I like Malbec but their pinot were great. I ended up purchasing two pinots: 2012 Syrah EBA and 2013 Sangiovese EBA. If you get a chance to stop by Lompoc, make sure this is your first stop. Great for wines and photos! My in-laws are huge wine people, and when they heard we were coming to the Ghetto, Montemar was the only place that they recommended. We came in on Sunday morning to check it out. Met the owner-winemaker Steve and his wife. He is upbeat, fun and very passionate about his wine. We started with a personal tour of the tasting facility. The exterior gives you no clue of the beautiful, rustic Spanish-style interior. It's much more than a tasting room because of the huge back yard. We tried out the comfy lounge chairs on the "beach," but it was too nice outside to enjoy the fire pits. However, since Montemar is open later than the other tasting rooms, there's a good chance that you will be able to experience them. The giant-size Jenga game was tempting, but we were ready to dive in to the wines. Perhaps the best news is that all of the wines are good. Really enjoyed the Rose and the Pinot blend. Also like the Grenache and the Chardonnay, which was more neutral and not too oakey. Lots of excellent Spanish meats and cheese from La Espanola on hand, if you need a snack while you linger in the back yard. We decided to join the wine club as well. Be sure to make this your last stop in your Ghetto visit. read more

Wow. I have never had such terrible service at a winery. The inexperienced staff person led us to a corner (the bar was full) where she basically ignored us. I think their objective is to get people sauced rather than educate because all the gal could do was pour. She knew very little about the wine, even when asked. I would never go here again. It's a shame that it was such a bad experience. They have one of the more attractive and larger tasting rooms in the wine ghetto. It's nice to have so many tasting rooms in such a close proximity with easy parking. Their $15 tasting fee is reasonable and the wine prices hovered around $30 to $40. read more
