I'm giving this winery 5 stars for the service. We got to meet the winemaker and she is spectacular! Loved hearing about how she got started and how she's driven by her passion. She creates wines that have a unique taste and those who love it, LOVE it. We loved it as well, however the price point was just a bit too high for us, given that we were looking primarily for every day drinking kind of wines. Turiya shares a wine room with Core Winery. My husband and I recently made a trip up to Lompoc. I read lots of reviews of different wineries, and we decided to visit Turiya Wines. Great is an understatement! My wife and I "stumbled" upon Turiya Wines as part of our anniversary trip this past November. What can we say... Angela (Turiya's owner/winemaker) walked us through a private tasting and it led so much more! My first tasting with Turiya wines and it was the greatest experience I've had by far it's got great flavor and made perfect. I had the honor of meeting the owner for Turiya wines during my tasting and I have to say she is very kind ,outgoing, very knowledgeable which makes the whole experience much more worth it I've recommend this wine to a few Of my friends and not one of them had anything negative but all positive words to say! Phenomenal wines. Had the privilege of trying these wines at a tasting event last year, and I was floored, so I had to finish this review. The winemaker (Angela) was present, and she was not only personable, knowledgeable, and gracious; she was also extremely passionate about her craft and detail oriented. She is determined to bottle perfect wines, and this approach is reflected in the quality of what Turiya offers. I wanted to snatch up every vintage. At the moment, production is extremely limited with only a few cases being produced a year. And only reds. And their tasting room hours are not only limited (Thurs and weekends only), they are also private and reservation only. Come to find out she was the owner and wine maker for Turiya. She invited us back to her tasting room and let me tell you, we had an amazing time! If you are looking for something different than the mass produced, chemically enhanced, over marketed wines we usually find in the area, head over to Turiya and sample some of winemaker Angela Soleno's offerings. She has a unique vision for what she wants to produce, and has the fortitude (and patience) to wait for it to happen. Her motto could very well be "We will sell no wine before its time" as she barrel-ages her wines much longer than the industry average. Arrived at the tasting room/winery to meet friends and sample. The winery is located inside the Scott Winery tasting room so look closely for the Turiya sign. Angela was offering a couple of barrel tastings before the main event. I can't wait or the '15 Malbec to mature. Only 9 months in the barrel, and it shows amazing flavor. We sampled a Petit Verdot and a Sangiovese from about 2011. So good! However, the best was yet to come. Angela broke out 3 blends from 2009: Golden God, Hither, and my favorite, Shapeshifter. What a wonderful experience! It's clear, that not only is Angela a dedicated wine-maker, but she's a total butt-kicker who's lived an incredible and interesting life. Beyond the unique flavors of her wine (we ended up buying two bottles that we're looking forward to saving for a special occasion) she's just straight-up smart and cool. If you are looking for something unique in a region known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, you've come to the right place! The winemaker, Angela, describes her choices of wine she creates as basically filling holes in her cellar. That means that she makes whatever wine she wants. When we were there, she was pouring 2012 Dark and Dreamy (an equal part blend of Petite Verdot, Cab Franc, Merlot, and Sangiovese), a 2012 100% Cab Franc, a 2012 100% Merlot, and a 100% Sangiovese. She makes such small amounts of wine that it is clear she takes her time and is personally interested in the quality of each barrel. Angela's approach to winemaking is very minimalist. She does not add sulfites to her wine to preserve it. She listed off a bunch of other things that she does not add or do to the grapes. Instead, she makes sure that the wine has enough acidity to enable it to cellar for 10-15 years, keeping the alcohol level toward the lower end, and she lets the characteristics of the grapes shine. She ages her wine in barrel for 4 years, which allows it to develop beautifully before bottling. Because she has limited space and is aging her wine that long, she really can't produce a lot, which makes her wine on the pricey side. Angela has a great personality and was very warm and welcoming. She took us in the back for barrel tasting of the 2018 Merlot (just put in barrel a month ago) and 2017 Merlot. Both were outstanding. I would have served either of them at dinner tonight! My favorites that I tasted were the 2012 100% Merlot and the 100% Sangiovese. Both were fantastic. I would have bought a Merlot, and I was seriously considering it until I saw that it was $150 for the bottle. This is not a criticism of Angela's pricing at all. I understand why her wine is on the expensive side, and to show how good it was, I actually considered buying it, and I hope I don't kick myself later for holding back. The Sangiovese was also $150, and I believe the other two we tasted were $65 and $85. The tasting was $15 for the 4 pours, and we also got the barrel tasting. So, the tasting fee was reasonable considering the price of each bottle. In short: I would definitely come back and taste again because Angela is a great winemaker and a very welcoming person. I would love to see what she's pouring in a year. Her passion for wine shows in each bottle and in the way she talks about what she does. If I found a bottle I loved for a price that I could handle, I would splurge. I am very happy I visited Turiya! read more

The tasting room is incredibly charming's and Angela will even take you back for a barrel tasting upon request. The wines we tasted were velvety smooth and luxurious. This was our favorite spot on our trip. Wines are definitely pricier than most other wines found in Lompoc and the surrounding areas, but we found the quality to be worth the price. Turiya Wines, Great Wine, the 2008 Syrah is probably the best Syrah I have ever tasted, ever, anywhere. There is simply no comparison. The winemaker/owner, Angela, makes limited quantities of very high quality wines and will probably become part of the Santa Barbara County wine making legend. Because of the limited production, you won't find this wine at your usual distribution channels so call and make an appointment to taste, you will not be disappointed. She is a fantastic host and perfectly willing to share her wine making "secrets". I was lucky enough to sample Turiya at a local wine/food event and then made a visit to the Turiya Barrel Room / Tasting Room. The winemaker will scramble around on the barrels and provide tasting from what is in the queue now. My visit was so fun and I left with with some treasured wine. Worth the trip! read more

Five stars is just not enough, I would say 5+ stars for this gem of Lompoc and Santa Barbara wine country. Angela is the real deal! She is a humble, down to earth, courageous, and smart winemaker. In Santa Barbara you can find the whole spectrum in winemaking.... everything from the shiner wines of some of the fancy "zones" in Santa Barbara to the gazillionaire living out his winemaker fantasies. At Turiya you will find solid, small production, beautifully hand crafted wines. I dropped in this past week at the end of the day and enjoyed a great lineup of wines with the newest vintage, I think, was a 2013. Most of the lineup was 2011/2012. Most other tasting rooms are pouring 2014 and 2015 vintages, some even 2016 for their reds. My favorite was the 2011 Shapeshifter, a petit verdot and sangiovese blend. Angela is firmly focused on the product and doesn't seem to compromise simply for turning over quick wine. If you are searching for something unique and really special I highly recommend adding Turiya to your next tasting itinerary in Santa Barbara! read more
