Fiddlehead Winery part of the Wine Ghetto in the Sobhani Industrial Park. Look to the back side of Fiddlehead to find an outdoor patio with tables physically distanced and wearing masks until reaching your table routine. What is so impressive and amazing is owner Katy Joseph who is so vibrant and welcoming at an age most of us would just be happy chilling out. For her, wine and wine making must be her fountain of youth. Still rather rare to find a woman as the head of a winery. Congratulations on being one of the earlier female pioneers in the oenological world. Every week there is a different set of about 6 2oz wines to sample at $17: 1) Pink Fiddle Pinot Noir Rosé 2017 2) Bebble Reserve Grüner Veltliner 2017 3) Bebble Reserve Grüner Veltliner 2016 4) Bebble Reserve Grüner Veltliner 2015 5) Missing 7 Pinot Noir 2013/2014 6) 728 Pinot Noir 2014 Grüner Veltliner (grew nair felt lee nair) vertical tasting was a nice touch in showing the three different vintage years of the same grape grown in the same vineyard. Grüner Veltliner's homeland is Austria which is generally colder and wetter than Santa Barbara County so the grapes here reflect more warm sunlight which seem to make it taste more strong, higher alcohol, heavier bodied, sweeter than what I had tasted in the old country. Of the 6 samplings I liked 728 Pinot Noir best with its bright ruby glow, sprightliness, light black fruity scent and flavours,  mellow, rounded mouthfeel. Goes well with pork or salmon or as a sipping wine. The extra resting for 6 years seems to have rounded the corners to this amiable wine. We spent over an hour lounging as we sampled, critiqued, analyzed, compared and contrasted our samplings. I've been wine tasting at Fiddlehead twice, once prepandemic and once during the pandemic. And to be honest I enjoyed the pandemic tasting a lot more because it was outside, relaxing, there was music, and we were served by the winemaker herself. Our tables were socially distanced and we enjoyed a tasting of six different wines. Winemaker Kathy Joseph explained how her wines were made, as well as the history of her vineyard. She shared a little of the harvest process and her experience as a woman winemaker in a male-dominated field. The tasting was $17, which I found to be very reasonable for the amount of time we sat and the amount of wine we drank. Based on my tasting, I purchased a bottle of Pinot Noir and was able to enjoy it in the comfort of my own home. I would highly recommend coming here for a tasting as it's nice to get out of the house in a perfectly safe way. Cheers! read more

My last (pre-Pandemic) tasting at Fiddlehead stands out in my memory; it was a decidedly different experience than is usual outside of Lompoc's "Wine Ghetto". When I say different, I mean that in a very good way; the tasting room is situated inside a small room with just enough space for a small table and several chairs. Despite (or maybe because) of this minimalistic space, the tasting experience is one of the most relaxed and enjoyable I've had in Lompoc. Our Sommelier unhurriedly guided us through a tasting of half a dozen different Fiddlehead wines. They were all good; my favorite of that day was their Pinot Noir; with honorable mention going to their Sauvignon Blanc. Everything about the Fiddlehead tasting room is fine. The wine is exceptional, the soms are very friendly and generous with pours, and the atmosphere is just what you'd expect, except that it's not. It's just the "wine ghetto" location that takes away from the whole winery experience. Instead of driving a distance past a billion grapes, taking in the scenery and the smells, red hawks flying above, you get an industrial roll-up garage door strip of stores behind a Home Depot. All concrete and asphalt. This location just causes it to lose so much, although if one is pressed for time, has no car etc., then the ghetto is very convenient. Easy walking distance from a couple of hotels, and right off the freeway. If you do venture to the ghetto, which is just what they call this collection of winery tasting rooms, definitely make it to Fiddlehead for great service and better wines. read more

I really want to give this place a 3.5 but Lindsay was cool so I rounded to 4 instead of 3. The temperature of the whites was off which was kind of off putting. They definitely need to be chilled. They had a 50% off deal for a case of Rose so we bought one but couldn't try it so fingers crossed that it's good. The tasting menu (the regular one) doesn't really do justice to the array of wines that they have. I suggest upgrading to taste the Oregon wines. It would be awesome if the expanded the tasting list to 6 wines so the customer can get a better understanding of depth of the list and then give the option to upgrade to 8 for the enhanced tasting. read more

I will say it again they rule the wine world.. Kathy Joseph has a knack for getting beautiful aromas from her vineyard. All of her wines show the characteristic that are so famous from the Santa Rite Appellations. I was most impressed though with her Willamette Valley Pinot. It was tasting very good that day. Beautiful forest floor, Bing cherry, coca cola aromas. Very silky on the pallet with a nice lingering finish. Of course it is the wonderful Sauvignon Blanc that I fell in love with so many years ago. Fiddlehead Cellars is a small winery in the heart of the Lompoc Wine Ghetto. The little tasting room cannot handle many people at all - it was definitely the smallest room and would be jammed with 10 people. But our party of 4 was solo most of the time and had a great tour of many of their wines with Suzy. Suzy was very knowledgeable about Kathy's wine making method and thoughts on the wine. She also had her own thoughts on the wine. We especially loved the Missing 7 Pinot Noir and the Rose of Pinot Noir. We liked the Rose so much that we brought our lunch in and enjoyed a bottle. I wouldn't necessarily plan on this because of their limited space but we had a great day. I highly recommend this humble little tasting room serving great wines. read more

What a find! Located in the wine ghetto area of Lompoc, this tasting & production room is really nice. The staff is really friendly, and explains things in a simple, easily absorbed manner with zero pretence. I was there with my parents, and they were really patient with them, as they don't frequent a lot of wineries, and the experience can be intimidating. Plus...they have great snacks! On the day we were there there was hummus with pita, and chips & salsa. Much better than a random cracker you usually get! Faaabulous! I cannot imagine a more fun way to start a wine-tasting weekend than this one! This cute little winery is located in what is affectionately called as the "wine ghetto." It was impossible to find and we almost gave up as it is located in the midst of industrial trailers and such. However, we are SO glad we did! We were greeted and then welcomed into the back of the building where all the wine-making takes place. There, a very happy and friendly pourer greeted us and off we were! We tasted Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blancs and of course their Pinot Noirs. I ended up purchasing their Pinot Noir flight but really enjoyed a lot of the wines there. Because it was the end of the day, they even showed us around the place and it was cool to see all the grapes fermenting! I loved it. With a cozy tasting space in the Lompoc "Wine Ghetto", we went through a nice range of wines. Their take on Sauvignon Blanc is unique and worth a try and the Pinot Noir wines are all top notch. Great little find. The Wine Ghetto leaves a lot to be desired as far as location goes, but it's a fun place to try some great wines. Fiddlehead is a winner. Their Sauvignon Blanc was remarkable. Probably one of the best I have ever had. The pinot's were hit and miss, and by saying that I mean they go from very good to excellent. However the Oregon Pinot's were stellar. Too bad the wine club does not offer a deeper discount. Oh and the MOST important part of the tasting experience of any winery passed with flying colors. This is an excellent winery--no doubt. Their sauvignon blanc is fantastic. I've ordered this online from them before, and it was sold out at the tasting room. This review is based more on the value of trekking out to their tasting room in Lompoc. I have tasted at the Lompoc tasting room twice, and I had some disappointment on my second visit. My recommendation would be that you only make the trip out to Lompoc when they're having a special library tasting event on wine festival days or other specially designated days. Check their website to see when those are, or get on their mailing list. My first visit was on a wine festival day, and the food served and the selection of past library wines was awesome. I bought a bottle of one of their Willamette Valley, Oregon selections, and I drank one and am still cellaring another, and it's no doubt that their WV wines are superior to their Santa Ynez grown wines. The bottle I drank was terrific. On my second visit I was disappointed that they only had one WV bottle on the tasting list, and it was fairly expensive -- $88.00 -- and not an aged library wine. So would I make my way out here again? You have to be a real oenophile to come to Lompoc to the Wine Ghetto to taste in an industrial park. Let's just say only on a wine festival day when they're offering some food goodies as well. read more

This tasting room allows you to sit but is a tight space. Very educated person running the tasting and willing to share her expertise. Female wine maker who produces excellent wines. My fiance and I took a tour of the Santa Barbara valley wine country, and this being the first winery we visited, the bar was set exceptionally high! The wines were amazing. The distinct characteristics between each varietal were marvelous. My favorite Pinot was the Seven Twenty Eight, and my fiance enjoyed the Oldsville Reserve.
