Santa Rita Hills Wine Map - Fiddle Winery - Lompoc, CA

The host/manager Henry is amazing!! Very knowledgeable, personable and educated in the vineyards history and wines. Great recommendation for our personal use and for cooking with. This winery has very bright, bold and some fruity selections. Definitely would recommend this winery and will be visiting soon!

My last (pre-Pandemic) tasting at Fiddlehead stands out in my memory; it was a decidedly different experience than is usual outside of Lompoc's "Wine Ghetto". When I say different, I mean that in a very good way; the tasting room is situated inside a small room with just enough space for a small table and several chairs. Despite (or maybe because) of this minimalistic space, the tasting experience is one of the most relaxed and enjoyable I've had in Lompoc. Our Sommelier unhurriedly guided us through a tasting of half a dozen different Fiddlehead wines. They were all good; my favorite of that day was their Pinot Noir; with honorable mention going to their Sauvignon Blanc. The "Wine Ghetto" isn't for everyone, but if you find yourself in the neighborhood I very strongly suggest you give Fiddlehead Cellars a try!

Everything about the Fiddlehead tasting room is fine. The wine is exceptional, the soms are very friendly and generous with pours, and the atmosphere is just what you'd expect, except that it's not. It's just the "wine ghetto" location that takes away from the whole winery experience. Instead of driving a distance past a billion grapes, taking in the scenery and the smells, red hawks flying above, you get an industrial roll-up garage door strip of stores behind a Home Depot. All concrete and asphalt. This location just causes it to lose so much, although if one is pressed for time, has no car etc., then the ghetto is very convenient. Easy walking distance from a couple of hotels, and right off the freeway. If you do venture to the ghetto, which is just what they call this collection of winery tasting rooms, definitely make it to Fiddlehead for great service and better wines.

Another fun winery to visit, they have outdoor seating and several wines to choose from, so if you are in the area, make sure you visit this place.

I really want to give this place a 3.5 but Lindsay was cool so I rounded to 4 instead of 3. The temperature of the whites was off which was kind of off putting. They definitely need to be chilled. They had a 50% off deal for a case of Rose so we bought one but couldn't try it so fingers crossed that it's good. The tasting menu (the regular one) doesn't really do justice to the array of wines that they have. I suggest upgrading to taste the Oregon wines. It would be awesome if the expanded the tasting list to 6 wines so the customer can get a better understanding of depth of the list and then give the option to upgrade to 8 for the enhanced tasting.

Wine Trip Part 2 http://static.px.yelp.com/photo/FzrtkFf5-hvvIfQVMJEHRA/l Just like the other reviewers say. Fiddlehead is a Gem of the industry. Just another Woman Wine maker! Yeah! I will say it again they rule the wine world.. Kathy Joseph has a knack for getting beautiful aromas from her vineyard. All of her wines show the characteristic that are so famous from the Santa Rite Appellations. I was most impressed though with her Willamette Valley Pinot. It was tasting very good that day. Beautiful forest floor, Bing cherry, coca cola aromas. Very silky on the pallet with a nice lingering finish. Of course it is the wonderful Sauvignon Blanc that I fell in love with so many years ago. All 3 were tasting great this day. I walked away with a few bottles of the Sauvignon Blanc and 2 Pinots and 1 Late Harvest that my wifey loves so much. Give them a Try if you are ever in the "Wine Ghetto" Cheers

We had a great first visit at this tasting room a few weeks ago. Rachel was personable and really engaged - clearly loves the winemaker, the product and was fun to spend time with her chatting about the area and wine. Each of us had a favorite and it met the needs of both red only and need to replenish White and Rose from summer.

It's the ultimate in a fully functional "backyard retreat" We brought our dog June, in an effort to give her June-cation deux. Recently her big brother Jackson had passed and she was left quite distraught. We figured a weekend out with numerous pets and lovers from fellow wine lovers would brighten her day. And boy did it. Montemar was a last minute addition to our schedule. We hadn't even planned on staying the night but did last minute when we found a great hotel deal that included dogs. I had been curious about the Lompoc wine scene for ages and this was the perfect opportunity. Lucky for us it was a quiet Sunday afternoon and June was given free reign of the backyard. We tasted a few flights and then opted to share a bottle of the Grenache blanc Pet Nat - perfect for a balmy Late fall afternoon. We loved the chill vibe here and would recommend to anyone with low energy pets. We can't wait to return and try out more wines and literally just chill and hang. It's such a peaceful environment for that!

However the service we received was unlike any of the other wineries we stopped at in the area. When we arrived at 3:30pm we were greeted at the door by a young woman who immediately told us that they would be closing at 5pm so we may not have much time for a tasting. An hour and a half isn't enough time for a tasting? After sitting in the large open tasting room, we engaged in conversation with her about the wines and the winery. When asked how she got into the business and started working at Hilt, she said she just wanted something that she didn't hate, and had applied for the job a couple months ago. When we asked about the white wine they had, she mentioned its tannins. Tannins in white wine? Given that we were only interested in trying the whites and the majority on the tasting menu were reds, we decided to try a glass of the white on offer instead of doing the tasting. The pour was about 2 ounces. It's too bad that the service was so impersonal and uneducated because the winery and the wines seemed so impressive. We would have loved to learn more but decided to cut our losses and leave.

We left with a few bottles of the 2005 Sangiovese, it was an off-menu recommendation from our host and this wine had an amazing aroma, didn't even need to take a sip to know how special it was (but obviously did)! All said, an amazing experience, beautiful wines, knowledgeable staff - definitely recommend!

Miles is a boring drip and he doesn't really know as much as he thinks he does about wine. But I do love Pinot, and Loring makes two of my favorites from the Clos Pepe vineyard and from Garys'. Luckily, on a recent visit to their new location in Buellton, they had both the 2016 versions of these wines in half bottles, full bottle for Clos Pepe. Ive been an acquaintance of Brian's for 20+ years as he first sold his wines to a wine group I was part of back in the late 90's, early 2000's. Now I see him occasionally at a charity event I've gone to previously. I admire how he pursued his dream and became a Santa Barbara rock star. They do more than just Pinot, and this visit is also more than just about wine with lovely locally baked shortbread cookies to pair. You wouldn't think it, but it's a great choice. The new location is next to Industrial Eats restaurant and makes for a great combo visit of wine and food and cookies. I prefer the two pinots above, you might find other pinots, or the blends or the whites more to your liking. All at fabulous price points too. Highly recommended :-)

When they opened their tasting room earlier this year, I was eager to make a trip down. When reviewing a wine tasting room, it's sometimes hard to separate the review of the tasting room experience from a review of the wines. In this case, I'm happy to report that Liquid Farm does an amazing job on both! Yes, it's an odd place for a tasting room, but Lompoc isn't quite the wine tourist destination like Napa or Sonoma. If you're reading this post and thinking of visiting, it's likely that, like me, you're already a fan of the beautifully elegant, terroir-driven chards and pinots. A visit to the tasting room affords a rare opportunity to taste the different wines being made side-by-side. Tasting the "White Hill" chard next to the "Golden Slope" deepened my understanding and appreciation of the two immensely. Visiting the tasting room also gave me instant access to magnums I had never had a chance to purchase before! Brian was a terrific host to my girlfriend and I. He was super knowledgeable about the wines, history, and philosophy of LF. He was also knowledgeable about wines in general, and was able to relate all things Liquid Farm to the larger context of California and Burgundy. We spoke the same language, and I was grateful for the opportunity to learn so much more about the wines I'd loved for so long. Brian gave us a little tour of the production winery, and invited us to join the wine club. We couldn't resist! We joined the wine club, and bought a mixed case and a couple of magnums. As I understand, they're open to the public on Saturdays, and by appointment the rest of the week. Either way, it's prudent to call ahead. Just make room in your cellar first!
