took my 3yr nephew to the Montebello Barnyard Zoo last weekend and had a really nice time overall! It's definitely on the smaller side, which honestly worked out great for us--no wait to get in and easy to walk through without feeling overwhelmed. Perfect for younger kids. Parking was probably the only downside. Since you park in the main park area, it was pretty packed with baseball games and birthday parties going on. If you're going mid-afternoon, just be prepared to circle a bit for a spot. Pro tip: get the Groupon! We grabbed a family 4-pack for only $13 way cheaper than paying at the gate, which made it feel like a really good deal. As for activities, pony rides were $10 and the tractor ride was $12. My nephew skipped the ponies but loved the tractor ride. Feeding the animals costs a couple bucks ($2-$3 for pellets), but just keep in mind you can only feed the llamas, goats, and one pony. Still fun though! He also got to interact with a chicken, which he thought was super cool. Overall, it's a cute, simple spot for a quick outing with kids. I found this spot when looking up things to do in montebello. You can get a great deal on group on for an admission of 2 for like $8. Since buying the ticket in person is $11 per person. There is ample parking since this place is located at the park. It's a small walk from the parking to the barn. Once you enter you can purchase small bags of animal food for $3. Once we entered we were able to see the stalls with different animals. Some animals you can feed others you can't, so please read the signs posted. It was fun to see small goats hopping & the bunnies snacking. It's a small spot but cutely decorated. The staff were friendly & open to questions. They also seem to host larger parties in where you have a small section for yourself which is nice. There is also pony riding & a small train for the little ones to explore. I bought tickets for my family and took my mom because she hasn't done this so I took them all to the petting zoo. Prices aren't expensive to get in and everything they have isn't bad pricing. We went on the train ride and my daughter went bourse back riding with a little girl she met there. She's similar to me. She makes acquaintances fast. A Hidden Gem in Montebello! The Montebello Barnyard Zoo is such a beautiful little gem in the heart of Montebello. It's located a beautiful Grant Rea park. There is plenty of parking for visitors. Prices are reasonable and go towards a good cause. You can ride the train, ride ponies and feed the animals for an additional cost. We started off our visit with a train ride. You get to see the ponies and animals. We also purchased animal feed and feed the goats and donkeys. They have chickens, rabbits, pigs and other animals to pet and/or see. The entire place is clean, charming, and perfectly for a family outing. They also have areas you can rent for birthday parties. It's also very reasonably priced, which makes it more enjoyable. It's a small zoo located in a park. We came here on a very hot Labor Day, but they were opened for special hours this day. They take in lots of animal rescues, so it feels good knowing that going to this zoo helps to take care of the animals there. Also looks like they're a big part of the community as well. It's $11 for entry and $3 for a small bag of feed. There are several signs showing too which animals you can and cannot feed. There's also pony rides, face painting/tattoos, and gemstone mining for the kids and a package with that as well. When we went there was also a taco vendor. They have merchandise for the zoo for sale too. All staff were super friendly and answered all of our questions. Some animals are in pens, so unless they're at the edge, it's not possible to pet them, but that makes sense. These were the larger horses and cows, emus, turkeys, chickens, tortoises, and pigs, but the ducks were wandering around, the donkeys and the pony came up to the fence area, and the goats are always down for some petting (some even were wandering around outside of their pen). The feed is definitely geared more towards the goats and donkeys, both are pretty ravenous but also quite friendly. There's also a black kitty wandering around that belongs to the zoo. Apparently their last cat was stolen sadly. Little cat was really friendly and accepts pets if you get close to the ground and are calm. There's some benches towards the back you can take a seat at. Super hot that day but there are some shady spots and a breeze from time to time. Great way to spend an hour or two. read more

We had a lot of fun despite the rain and muddy areas, but we're going to a farm/zoo - we're meant to get a little dirty. The Groupon was a great gift for less than $15 weeks got entrance for 4 people, great deal. Kids 3 and over require entrance tickets. There weren't many animals that you could go see, the alpaca and horses and cows and ostriches are all quite far away and gated off. There was one little goat that was loose and you could feed. There's a free barnyard zoo that you can pretty much do all the same things at the OC fairgrounds. The train tickets were quite a rip-off $10/person around the tiny farm. We had a part of 4 plus 1 four year old so $50 for 2.5 min? Uhhh why? But It's ok, hopefully it's considered a donation for taking care of the animals. read more

It was located near a park, so I figure it would be pretty small, but we went anyways. The park was buzzing with energy! Children running around, birthday parties everywhere you turn and lots of horses. We walked up to the big barn, paid for our admission (cheaper on Groupon), grabbed a bag of feed and took a look at all the animals. This petting zoo isn't as immersive as I thought, you can only feed and pet them through a fence. Which actually is good for children cause baby was actually quite scared of the animals. They have tortoises, chickens, a turkey, miniature horses, emus, alpacas, geese and ducks on display. The goats, sheep a cow and donkeys were available for feeding. Small little local petting zoo. I had a very disappointing experience with the front desk staff when purchasing tickets. The woman assisting me was noticeably rude and dismissive from the start. She spoke in a sharp tone, seemed irritated by basic questions, and made the interaction uncomfortable and unprofessional. This is a fairly small zoo but I enjoyed it for the price I paid. So it's normally $9 per person for entry and they sell food for the animals for $3 per bag (I bought two bags for two people). I used groupon and paid $7.50 for admission for two people so definitely check that first. They easily accepted the voucher with no issues. So you get to see a few different type of animals consisting of horses, miniature horses, goats, baby goats, cow, ducks, turtles, bunnies, and pigs. They allow you to feed half of these animals and honestly it's worth paying a few dollars to get food to feed the animals. You can probably visit the whole zoo in about 30 minutes to an hour. The animals were friendly and overall a fun experience. I don't know if it's worth $9 per person but if you can get a deal to come in then its definitely a fun little spot to spend an hour. read more

I'm so happy I found this little zoo with barnyard animal because my daughter (age 2) loved it. It's a nice little place that you can get through quickly or take your time and spend a bit of time. They have a bunch of different animals as well as food pellets for sale that you can feed some of the animals. The animals were really gentle so my 2 year old could easily feed the animals herself although I assited her to be sure. A lot of people have complained about the parking being far. We came here during the week and it was not too busy! We used a Groupon although they are reasonably priced anyways, only $9. We parked , plenty of free parking and walked up to the zoo. We bought some feed for $3 and walked in. The set up is great we saw plenty and got to interact with goats, the donkey, and ponies. My son loved the pigs, ducks, chickens, and the barn cat. Great little barn zoo my kids love it. They have pony rides and tractors rides but we didn't get to those this time. Everyone here is so friendly and helpful. I truly wanted to give this venue 5 stars because the location itself is very cute and has a lot of charm. However, I can't overlook how difficult the parking situation was. When we arrived, there were two baseball games happening nearby, and parking was almost impossible to find. My elderly aunts had to park very far and walk a long distance, which was really tough on them. Our vendors also struggled--not only to find parking but to carry all their equipment to the venue. While the space is visually lovely, the stress of getting there and the lack of accessible parking really took away from the overall experience. Unfortunately, it made what should have been a joyful event into a very stressful day for us. I hope the management can work on offering better parking solutions or clearer guidance in the future. read more

This place has history with me, let's do this.....back in the day it was just a barn with some stalls horses donkeys so pigs and chickens it was free. Then over the years it went down hill. In my estimation about 17 18 years it has developed into what it is now. No its not the L.A. zoo or O.C. it's mainly for children toddler age to about 5 or 6 from what I gathered. Price wise there need to be a understanding the city does not run this so funds don't come from the city. So $9 dollars to feed and see some animals isn't half as bad it's like to Starbucks grande coffees. The farm looks farely clean as well as the park itself. They have a deal 18 for pony rides, marry go round and John deer tractor ride. I think it's a great value personally. The young lady at the cashier was very helpful, friendly and knowledable. I had planned this Saturday to come and see and I was very satisfied. If your looking to take your young ones to a place to see animals ans have fun on a few rides this is a good place, not fancy or overly expensive try this place. Really helps that we got tickets on Groupon! We came on a Monday afternoon and it was not very crowded. I remember seeing a few negative Yelp reviews so I was teetering on deciding to go.. but ended up taking the chance and honestly it was fine from my perspective. I was talking to the lady working the ticket booth and she was very knowledgeable about the animals on the farm, most of which being rescues, and there are a handful of signs that say "Do Not Feed" so not sure why some people were confused or bit by certain animals but maybe we were just having a good day. 3 adults and 1 toddler, and we all had a good time. There was a merry-go-round, which my son enjoyed and since it was not crowded, he had the whole thing to himself! There were chickens, goats, horses, smaller horses.. cows, bulls... ducks.. turtles.. and an emu-looking thing who looked like he wanted to break out of there and fight us LOL! There were even a few spots to snap some photos of your family. A family was leaving so they gave us their pellets for the animals.. my son was too scared to feed the animals but the adults had fun having the goats and horses eat from our hands. The petting zoo is super cute and conveniently located inside a park. It's a great spot to visit with your toddler, as you can go to the petting zoo and then head over to the play area. We were able to feed the goats and ride the tractor, and my toddler had a lot of fun. We're planning a party for ~50 people, including kids, in May'24 (1 month in advance). We didn't want to book the picnic areas in the Barnyard Zoo; the zoo itself is already inside Grant Rea Park, which has its own shaded picnic areas for reservations (through the city of Montebello) that are closer to the children's playground/splash pad area. We went there today to take a look for planning purposes. Rides: Weekend specials are $18 to do all three: - $10 Pony rides $10 (have to be 2yo+, less than 90lbs, and able to sit on the pony by themselves for the duration of the ride) - $8 John Deere rides are $8 (it's like a little train ride through the zoo) - $6 Merry-go-round rides The merry-go-round is pretty tiny, but the plus is that my 2.5 year old was confident riding by himself. The petting zoo seems like fun, from what we could see through the gate! Feed is a little steep at $3 for a small Ziploc bag. Later on: I noticed that petting zoo admission through Groupon would be ~55% off: $16.50 for 4 people, vs. $9 per person at the gate (note that 2yo+ needs a ticket). With ~50 people, that would be paying $198 ($16.50 x 12) vs. $432 ($9 x 48 people), which is a significant difference of $234. I wanted to see if we could transact directly through the zoo, and so I called and asked if it's possible to prepay for group pricing at that rate, rather than buying all the tickets through Groupon. Lady on the phone briskly noted that I should go through Groupon. Okay then. Seems quite inefficient for all parties, and I feel like the zoo loses money that way, but sure why not.
