Disappointing Experience with Venue Owner and In-House DJ Lonee We appreciated the staff working our event, but our experience with the venue owner was extremely disappointing. The owner is very strict with his contract, be very aware of the contract details and make sure the owner writes down any changes agreed upon. He does not use email, only text and phone calls. On the day of the wedding, he was rude and confrontational with myself and my wife, our guests and wedding party who helped with set-up, including our vendor. He raised his voice, cowered over our party, and made us feel uncomfortable with his presence. The owner was very adamant on using the house DJ, DJ Lonee. His reasoning was the sound system would not be available for use and the loading/unloading of equipment would be difficult. True, this venue has a steep staircase, and the price was reasonable. So, we made a choice to continue with hiring the DJ and we would not recommend the services. First, communication. There was very little contact between us, we were only provided with a word document for our timeline by email, had little conversation over the phone, and had only the set-up hours to speak to him on the day of the wedding. Our expectations were not met; he was not professional or prepared. Second, the music selection. Horrible! We were specific to use a Spotify playlist that was REQUESTED by the deejay himself. Our wedding coordinator was asking for a 2 to 1 ratio of a specific Latin genre, and he did not abide by the request. The worse was to find out after asking for the Spotify playlist we provided and queuing the songs to play he tells me that he cannot play directly from his phone. We just wanted to dance our songs, and we were unable to do this at the end of our night. It was extremely disappointing. If you do decide on this venue, please ask questions. Please be proactive in your planning with the venue by having it written down, and lastly, hire your own DJ. You save in heartache and headaches. We hope future couples receive clearer communication and more respectful treatment. read more

DON'T BOOK THE IN-HOUSE DJ We need to share our experience with the in-house DJ service, which unfortunately fell far below professional standards and significantly impacted our reception. From the start, DJ Lonee showed signs of being unprepared. Despite receiving our documents, playlists, and timeline well in advance--clearly labeled with our married hyphenated last name--he repeatedly mispronounced our names throughout the night and referred to us by our maiden names. Not once did he pronounce our married name correctly. It was so devastating to hear our grand entrance announcement butchered. It was clear he had not reviewed anything beforehand. The DJ pulled me aside and asked me to listen to our first dance and surprise dance songs, to verify if the audio was distorted and if the tempo was correct. He explained that often times, when music is added to a USB, his equipment can distort the audio and beats per minute (BPM). Note, he was the one who requested the USB after saying it was "too much work" to download the audio files from the emails we had already sent. We were assured the issues were fixed, yet our surprise dance was noticeably slowed, throwing off choreography we had practiced for weeks. We provided a detailed playlist of music we and our guests requested. Many of those songs were never played. In fact, several times throughout the night, my bridesmaids, our coordinator, and my wife approached him to ask for specific genres--especially Bachata and Salsa--and he repeatedly said "I got it" but never adjusted. Our coordinator later told us she believed he genuinely did not know what Bachata or Salsa were. We want to highlight that he had asked for a Spotify playlist weeks beforehand, which we created and emailed. There was no follow-up from him, and on the night of the event, we discovered that he did not even have Spotify on his laptop. When we asked him to play from his phone instead, he told us he was unable to connect it. Throughout the evening, he needed constant cueing--mixing up the order of family dances, missing announcements, creating awkward silences while he searched for songs, and struggling with transitions. At one point, he played a song that finally had everyone dancing but immediately followed it with a track so mismatched that the entire dance floor stopped. Guests literally looked toward the DJ booth and asked, "What is this?" Many guests later told us they noticed the DJ was unprepared and that his transitions were abrupt or awkward all night. We also found out later that the DJ and bartender were spouses. During the event, the bartender was trying to help him with the timeline and expressed that "no client had ever asked for so many details," even though our requests were standard wedding items. She also commented that the DJ was overwhelmed and made a remark about Montebello being a traditional city and "not being a city for non-conventional events," referring to our one request for gender-neutral language during the bouquet/garter toss to make all guests feel included. We provided examples and made ourselves available for questions, but he never responded. Communication leading up to the wedding was also very poor. We emailed, texted, and called multiple times with questions and clarifications. The few times we did speak, he had not read the materials, had no questions, or rushed the call and said he'd call the day before the wedding--which he never did. Our coordinator did everything she could to help salvage the situation, but by that point, the DJ's lack of preparation had already set the tone. In summary, the DJ's performance, professionalism, and preparation were not at the level expected for a wedding. His lack of readiness, inability to execute our music selections, and poor communication deeply affected the energy and flow of our reception. Montebello Ballroom is a great place to host a party. We had our daughter's Sweet 16 party, which we booked over 6 months in advance. The ballroom holds over 300 and we had about 100-125 and it was still perfect amount of space. The staff was very helpful and friendly throughout the evening of our event which made the night seamless. The owners (John and wife) were also very thorough and helpful throughout the planning process and payment options are available. I also loved how the venue provided the tables/chairs/linens and all the food and drinks. I just showed up with a few decorations, cake and flowers. They also have a fun photo booth, which our guests loved! I would highly recommend booking as you won't be disappointed!! read more

I cant even begin to tell you how happy we were with the Ballroom. My wife and I were married in December and had our reception at the Montebello Ballroom and it was everything she could have asked for. This is truly and 1 stop place. They can provide EVERYTHING but the flowers for you. From the very first time we met with John we were impressed. John was very honest and professional with us and seemed to take a genuine interest in our planning. I guarantee you that if he tells you how something is going to be, that's how its going to be. You will read other reviews and see some complaints but, if you read your contract and abide by it, you will not have a single complaint. The entire staff was friendly and ready assist with anything they could. The kitchen staff, bar staff, and security staff were 100% on point. By the way, you definitely want their bar staff. The drinks were really good and you really can't beat the value. We got a drink package of 100 drinks for $500 and it was more than worth it. Decorating was a breeze since they set up all your tables with the table cloths in the colors of your choice and he does have plenty of colors for you to chose from. All we had to do was have our centerpieces placed on the tables and we were ready to go. There is a lot to cover and I can really go on and on but I think that the Ballroom and John speak for themselves and, i can tell you that a friend of ours was truly impressed and has booked their wedding reception there for the summer of 2021 based on how our wedding went. We recently had our 40th Celebration for 80 guests on February 19, 2023. John Crist, the owner was very helpful, friendly and very direct on what they would provide and their pricing. We are very pleased with the outcome of the celebration. It was everything he said it would be. The hall was beautifully decorated with the linen of our choice. The food was very, very delicious. We chose the Pasta Menu. Guests commented on how good it was. The servers were exceptionally nice and helpful. The times we designated for food service was met. Our DJ was given explicit instructions and it was fulfilled. We requested extra tables to be set at designated areas, they were there as promised. John was so nice and helpful. I have a couple of occurrences i want to bring to John's attention. Our event was to end at 12 midnight; the DJ was told to stop music at 11:45pm which he did. It was 11:30pm and the servers that were there began to clean tables, remove tablecloths and put chairs on top of tables. We were sitting at the main table and the servers began to roll up linen while we were still sitting at the table. I understand the event was to end soon but it was not even 1145pm. There were guests still in the ball room dancing ; drinking and sitting at tables. They felt rather uncomfortable and rushed to pick up and leave. Again, it was only 11:30pm. That would be my only suggestion to the servers. If John could please instruct them to wait until at least 1145 to begin to pick up. We also had 3 full bottles unopened of Apple Cider left. i saw them behind the bar. I also saw a server give them to the bartender who instructed her to take them to the back. I did not hear but i could see her gestures. I went up to the server asked for the unopened bottles and she referred me to the bartender who then told me she had given them to my daughters. i asked my daughters who were picking up center pieces and they said nothing was given to them. i knew they had not received them as i saw the server place them in the back. Which is fine, if they wanted the bottles i would of given them to be shared among them but i did not appreciate the fact that the bartender lied and said she gave them to us when they had not. Other then those 2 small issues, we had a blast, venue was beautiful and we look forward to renting for another occasion in the future. The "owner" is absolutely rude to the service personal and vendors. He lacks any form of customer service simply unprofessional. The actual ballroom itself needs a lot of repairs additionally the room where the bride or persons needed to get ready is on the third floor and is extremely hot there is no circulation except for a old tower fan that needs to be replaced. This is also not handicap accessible. There is two flights of stairs to just get in the building an other to get to the changing room. I understand the pandemic has changed the way things have and are going to continue to change however m, that doesn't mean we should treat each other with disrespect or snide remarks. Communication with John was easy and professional. Just hosted our 10 high school reunion here and everyone loved it! Set up was great and the staff was friendly and fun. We literally had to worry about nothing, they arranged dinner, linens, lighting and drinks for us which was a huge stress off our shoulders. Don't book your party at this venue. Owner, staff, security are extremely rude. It should of been a red flag when the owner went crazy on us. The owner allowed us to go days before to decorate and set up for a sweet 16. It was extremely hot outside and the inside of the ballroom was too. We asked if it would be this hot inside the day of the event. Owner comes in and starts yelling at us about how they were having a/c problems and were trying to fix it. He said he should just cancel our event since he knew we were going to be trouble. Many more things were said. Too long to list. Couple hours later comes back and starts talking like nothing ever happened. Day of our event we booked from 6-12. By 11:35 security comes charging in to the Dj demanding that he shut if off. After confirming with someone he then said 11:45. 11:40 comes along and once again demands he shut it off. Dj starts putting his equipment down but still plays his closing song very low as he's putting his equipment away. Now the bar tender comes and harasses the Dj to shut it down. Staff is very unprofessional and would definitely not recommend this venue. By the way a/c was working. read more

The owner would not open the venue a day before so we can set up, he set up the tables days before, that's how you know the venue sucks because they don't have parties other days. Having people there that we paid for their services and they didn't even help my dad set up like ???. The day of the party the owner GRABBED one of our friends kids by the arm aggressively and dragged him out the room and thought it was ok.. at 11:50 the tenant went up to the DJ and banged his computer saying "No more songs" and turning off the power when we paid for 12am and the security guard was kicking us out talking about you have 5 min to get out Plus we paid an extra $100 to use the projector and it didn't even have sound!!! Fuck this place honestly save your money it's not worth it you end up paying thousands for NOTHING @john If you care so much about the "safety" of the guest why'd you GRAB the 5 year old like that? Why tf so you have a kids room and not accept the things little kids do? It's a kids thing, Instead you could've talked to the father instead. They ended up leaving the party, thanks to you and ruined what could've been their night. You could've mentioned the projector had no sound, it sounded stupid with the way we did it and it's a waste of 100 for a damn projector that only shows pictures. read more

I attended a sweet 16 party here last week. It's a very large and big ballroom dance floor is humongous very spacious. Dinner they had a buffet style dinner with different types of pastas.... they even have a second balcony area what I like about the place is already equipped with the DJ lighting in the ceiling and they have a projector installed with a very huge backdrop... I was searching for venues for my daughters sweet 16 and this place came up. I spoke to the man in charge of the rental. Everything he quoted me was very overpriced and if I wanted to bring in my own caterer there would be an ridiculous additional fee. We were not allowed to do our own decoration. Decorations were only through them and they were also over priced. This place would've cost me close to 15,000 for a place that was mediocre. I do not recommend this place. read more

I had my Wedding and Reception here this past August ,18 ,2018. In the weeks prior to the wedding I became a Super Bi 'uh' Bridezilla. I'm a perfectionist so everything had to be just right! With that said, I can honestly tell you that I am so happy that we chose Montebello Ballroom for our venue. I was happy with all of it!. The AC was perfect! We all danced for hours with no complaints! The food, the decor, the lighting was awesome!!. I loved it!!! :-) We had 200 guest and 4 security guards. Two in the ballroom and the others at the door and parking lot. They were very friendly There was NO tsa search nor were they intimidating in anyway! We were all having so much fun that we actually forgot they were there. Oh by the way Everyone absolutely loved the bartenders. :-) As for the Owners I met them around 7 months earlier when I first went to see the ballroom. They are a very nice couple with a great personality and I took an instant liking to them both. During the planning of the wedding it was pretty much all business and a few laughs but now that the wedding planning is all over, if and when I have the pleasure of seeing them again, I would consider them my friends!.... P.S. I would definitely recommend the Montebello Ballroom for all your future events! I truly made some precious memories there! read more

Let's me start by saying for of the employees were very nice !! But the owner was a ass the day we went to go set up him and his wife were so unprofessional one of my cousin ask if it was going to be hot in the hall the day of the party because when we were setting up it was very hot and his wife made a big deal and went to get her husband and he came out yelling at all of us !! Saying we want to say the law about it being hot I Control the AC and I could make this party not happen !! The day of the party the light were not the color I want and no one new how to control the light so we were walking in and the light were blue not gold and red so for a long time so I had to ask for them to try and fix it .. Another thing at 11:30 they made my Dj stop the music and stop playing and all rude !! I put to much time and money in my Daughter party to back out of it at the time but I will never go back again and I'm a party planner!! I took all my stuff in .. I recently attended a wedding reception here and I can't think of any complaints. We had the Italian buffet which was delicious and the servers were very friendly and helpful. The bartenders were amazing and the drinks were extremely affordable. At the end of the night the employees even helped me take down my children's car seat and stroller (the hall is on the second floor). Everyone was very friendly including the owners who catered to our every need. I recommend this place to anyone that asks. read more

Went in for the Pokémon Go Tournament. Pretty big venue. We were out in the south ballroom and I loved the throne room like chairs they had. We used them a lot to take photos. The staff was very friendly and accommodating - whenever we needed odd items for our booth (hangers, stuff to put tickets, etc) they helped us find it in their closet and allowed us to borrow it for the event. They also had yummy food on site. Only suggestion I would have is just make sure you bring stuff for lighting, their lighting in the ballrooms may be a little dim but a small rig of lights is perfect for any booth. They have plenty of outlets on the wall so an extension cord goes a long way. Parking looks a little intimidating but we were able to find some for free in the neighborhood. We had our company party at the Montebello ballroom and the venue was wonderful! We had a casino theme, DJ and there was enough seating to accommodate our 180 guest size. However there's enough room for over 200 using the second floor balcony and a different arrangement. Food was great and the restrooms were large, nice looking and clean. Depending on your group size, make sure you discuss the ratio of bartenders to guest as the larger the group, the more bartenders you should have to keep the lines down. The owner is very nice and flexible to make arrangements to visit the property in advance. Parking nearby was a plus and the package comes with security that covers the parking lot for your guests safety and communication. Overall, our employees loved the Christmas party and left with memories! great venue and owner to work with and we're hoping to book our next Christmas party there! read more

If I could give no starts I would. These people that run this business are VERY unprofessional!!! While they are showing you around they are nice I don't know if it cause they want you to rent out there facility but once they have your money forget it they are very rude!!! While setting up the man that's supposed to do the table linens left cause he said we were bothering him when all we were trying to do was help so we could set up everything since you only have so much time, then the owner was VERY rude yelling at us for making a comment about the heat since it was pretty hot inside. The day of the party they made the Dj turn the music off by 11:30 and he told them ok this is the last song and it was 11:35 which we weren't supposed to start cleaning up till 11:45 and the guy in charge was very rude telling the Dj cut it already your done, what's wrong with having music playing while your cleaning up? All I know is none of us will ever rent this place again along with other friends that wanted to rent this facility for an event but once they saw how they ran things they are taking there money and business elsewhere.. read more

We decided to have our mother's funeral reception here and they were very kind and caring. They do run a tight ship as they have a few restrictions like they do their own food and they run their own bars. They charged us to use their video screen and they didn't have a PA system (but they allowed me to bring my own) which I thought was odd for a hall but the interior is really beautiful and quite large. I liked that they checked everyone coming in for safety as they patted us down and checked purses. They have a freight elevator for use w people using wheelchairs and for bringing in large things into the venue. The food was ok, nothing great but they did have a decent choice. They put out lemonade, punch and water for self service and a bucket of ice for those who didn't want to order from the bar. The bar had beer, wines and hard liquor for not a bad price. All the servers and staff was friendly and helpful and the manager was always accommodating. I would definitely suggest this place but just be aware that I don't think you can bring your own vendors in. read more
