Very Expensive Sloppy Do not take Responsibility On January 10, 2026, Montco Rooter came to unclog our sewer line. Their plumber used high pressure water to clear the line. When I noticed and told their man that some of the water was backflowing, he just shrugged his shoulders. Montco Rooter charged me $1549, which was three times what I was charged by another company a few months earlier (their plumber told me that they guarantee their work for 30 days). A few days later we went away; came back late on January 17, 2026. I noticed that there was backflow into a shower that would not drain). I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 only because the company came out quickly both times, and the second field tech was professional and easy to work with. Unfortunately, the overall experience was frustrating. I had a blockage in my sewer line from the house to the street that caused my yard vent to overflow. On the first visit, they snaked the drain and restored flow. However, the tech told me in person that he did not clear the line all the way to the street -- only about 10 feet past the clog. He assumed the blockage was wipes based on what had overflowed, though he wasn't able to pull anything out of the line. We have not used wipes in the three years we've lived here. It's possible prior owners did, but that's speculation. He did not document that the line wasn't cleared to the street, but since they advertise a 30-day warranty, I didn't push the issue. For reference, I was charged about $800 for that initial visit, which feels high for a straightforward snaking with no camera inspection or confirmation that the line was fully cleared. They also would not provide even a ballpark price before coming out, which should have been a red flag. About 10 days later, the line backed up again -- still within the warranty window. When I called to schedule a follow-up, the person on the phone was extremely confrontational. He said that if they found wipes again, I would automatically be charged. He insisted the wipes previously found were "fresh," despite having no proof and despite me explaining we do not use wipes. It felt like I was being accused of lying. When I referenced that their own tech told me the line wasn't cleared to the street the first time -- and that the clog may have simply been pushed downstream -- I was told, "Why do customers tell us we don't do our job properly?" The tone was unprofessional and unnecessary. I remained calm and simply explained I didn't want to pay again for something that may not have been fully resolved the first time, especially SINCE IT WAS WITHIN WARRANTY. Ultimately, they did return and clear the line at no charge, though they voided the remainder of the warranty. Honestly, I'm not sure if he legally could void my warranty, but I was so happy to just be done with them that I didn't care. While I appreciated the second technician's work, the hostile communication, lack of transparency on pricing, and accusatory tone mean I won't be using them again. Do NOT use this company. They charge $79 non-refundable fee to come to your house only and a non-refundable $198 "diagnostic" fee! The $79 does not go towards the $198 diagnostic fee, it only goes towards a job they actually do in your home. They said there wasn't anything wrong with my water heater, they believe its electrical.. so now I'm $300 short and still no heated water.. They offered to have an electrician come to our house for $730. Thank God I read the Yelp reviews... I found another electrician.. which was only $200 to fix another issue but the electrician still stated that there was something wrong with our water heater. We called Montco-Rooter again so that they would come and actually do the job we call them for in the first place... They come back the next day and say that the whole water heater is broken and we need a new one!!! Now they want us to pay more than $1000 for the uninstallment and installment of a new water heater. We called another plumbing company to get a second opinion and they fixed the issue.. the bottom element needed to be changed. They fixed it for $360. We had a clog in our sewer line on 12/10/25. We called Montco Rooter and the plumbers scoped our line and said it would cost $779 to fix it.. We consented ; they worked for an hour ; we paid our bill. We thought the charge was high but we wanted to fix our problem . This week the same issue came back. We were five days out of our warranty. We called and the same technician came and said he would call the manager for a price- $669 for this time. We said " no" and had to pay the service call of $79. A true rip off of customers . We called the real RotorRooter Co. who came and said the problem was not the pipe elevation but the junction sewer line in our home. He showed it on his TV camera.It was fixed and he made suggestions on how to do preventative clogging. Their fee was included in our one year warranty from a pipe repair last April. read more

After speaking with a manager, they came down to $779 "to earn our business" but then the plumber it took them less than an hour to complete the task. Would not do a time and materials. This level of price gouging should be reported to the better business bureau. There are other companies that will clean your drains for far less. I called to request a sewer cleanout, and they told me they couldn't provide a quote over the phone--but they'd come out and give me a price, with an $80 service fee for the visit. Once on-site, they called to say they wouldn't clear the clog because sewage had backed up into the house. Instead, they tried to upsell me on a cleanup service. When I declined that additional service, they refused to clear the drain, saying it would just clog again and that I'd be charged a second time if it happened while he was packing up his equipment. When I pushed back a little, he graciously agreed to clean it but was making sure I knew it was going to clog again and that was not on him. To make matters worse, the technician left the cleanout covers and his gloves in the middle of a busy sidewalk, creating a safety hazard. Regarding pricing: they quoted approximately $800 for a sewer cleanout and around $1,000 to run a camera through the line. The $80 visit fee seems designed to get a foot in the door, banking on customers accepting the high prices once they're already on-site. Ultimately, I paid the $80, but I contacted Roto-Rooter instead. They came out, cleared the clog both inside and outside, used a camera, and charged $600 total. Such a rip off. I agreed to pay a fee to have my drain unclogged. I had a plumber there previously and knew a snake would not work but the guy insisted he had to run his snake. After he realized it didn't work he visually looked around my basement and saw a leaking pipe and decided that was the problem. Drain still clogged and nothing fixed and I was charged $600. No camera or diagnostic done to prove where clog is. Read what you sign!!! I did not read and just signed so the manager said since I signed I agreed. They take advantage of people. Update to my 4/2024 review of Montco Rooter and owner Mike Horn. I made the costly mistake of calling this company over a year ago for a simple hair clog in the bathroom. It took me some time to pay down the near $1200 debt to my credit card that these bullies managed to swindle out of me. Now I'm financially ready to get down to the real work that needs to be done on my bathroom- a leaky faucet, a leaky pipe and some rust in the tub with a small hole. This all had to wait a year because Mike Horn and his employee ate up my so much of my money for a hair clog swindle. So I went to Home Depot Pros referral system to find a plumber, thinking I'd be able to avoid another swindler like Mike Horn and his employee Louis, and get someone who had been vetted by Home Depot. After you fill out your information and upload photos of the work you'd like done, to the Home Depot Pros site, you get referrals by text from supposedly vetted plumbing professionals. Well guess who was my 1st plumber referral. Mike Horn under some other company name, other than Montco Rooter. This is what this guy does. I called Home Depot and let them know this situation, and that I no longer trust their referral service or vetting plumbers, if this guy is who they are referring me to. I told them everything, including that I'd previously filed complaints with the attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission about this plumber, his employee and his business. I thought I was calling Roto Rooter. When they arrived at my door, Louis walked in and immediately went right to the area where in question. the bathroom. he said I needed this. this and this. he gave me a quote. my husband and I were a frenzy because we needed the work done because thanksgiving was 3 days away. The day of service, Louis comes and says he's going to cut everything out and then he needs to go to the store to get the supplies. In the midst of doing all that, I asked to see the original estimate invoice and I saw that I was being charged for a membership fee, that I didn't ask for, credit card fee for the deposit , (I paid in cash) and that i still had to pay for parts. Which was quoted at 600 dollars. When I asked for a receipt of what I was paying for, i was told that the receipt would be emailed. Never received an email and when o tried to call them no response. march 2025 Brandon the manager came to our house because tub water in the bathroom upstairs keep running. Brandon give us a price and told us that he will seMarch 18 2025nd a plumber the next day. The next day Nick the Plumber came. He was very young. He was here most of the day. When Nick was done what's a terrible job! The wall in back of the bath tub was broken and the pipes was showing tiles was broken, copper pipe is shaking. The faucet is loose. We recently bought a property and moved-in this past weekend. The first thing we noticed as we moved in our furniture was that there was a significant puddle on our basement level bathroom floor. Not the kind of welcome we were hoping for, especially as first time home owners. We cleaned up the mess and figured we'd deal with it later, once we finished moving everything in. About 7 hours later and the mess grew. More water on the floor and now our toilet was not flushing and our shower was overflowing with water from the drain and we had not even used the shower yet. The worst part is that it smelled like sewage. We frantically called as many plumbers as we could find on a Saturday night at 8 PM. After back and forth with many different options, Montco Rooter was able to come Sunday morning at 7:45 AM. We'd be the first visit of the day. We learned there would be a $79 dispatch fee, but if we decided to move forward and work with them, the fee would be waived. Given how quickly they were able to come out, this was fine by us! Our tech arrived promptly and was very friendly and polite. He diagnosed the problem and gave his recommendation for repair. He also informed us of their membership program, which felt a bit salesy, he really tried to sell it but all I wanted was to not have water on my bathroom floor and I truly was not interested in anything else. The recommended work involved the sewer line for our entire building (5-unit condo) so we had to run the repair by the condo association for approval. We told our tech we'd be in touch if/when we got the green light, paid our $79 dispatch fee, and sent him on his way. As luck would have it, we heard back quickly from the association with the 'OK' to clear the line. We called Montco Rooter right away and they sent the tech right back. He performed the work needed, and in the almost week since, all seems well! We did decide to join the membership program at the end of the day, because we know we'll be needing a hot water heater soon and there is a coupon that gets us a significant discount on that. Because we got the service the same day as the visit, they waived the dispatch fee. I'm surprised to read so many others had such negative experiences, but I wonder if there is just a shortage of people inclined to leave positive reviews after the resolution of a plumbing nightmare. This company is awful. They charged me $499 as a service fee because they were not able to get my drain unclogged. They reccomended that I do a Jet, which would cost over $1000. Luckily, I said no and got a second opinion. I hired another plumber that was able to unclog the drain within 10 mins. The BBB has two complaints on MTCH under same address and phone number as Montco Rooter. I am a single Mom on a fixed income and this company TOTALLY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ME. Searched Angie's list and yelp and plenty of negative reviews on them. Don't believe a word they say, plenty of other plumbers out there. When the technician finished the 20 minutes of "work" he demanded same day payment of $480 to replace one hose and 6 inches of pipe in 20 minutes and next day I had no hot water. HE ASKED ME IF I WAS MARRIED, HAD A BOYFRIEND, CHILDREN OR IF MY BROTHER LIVED NEARBY. He was so arrogant and a complete con man that took advantage of a single woman. I wish I could give ZERO STARS! I called Montco Rooter on Monday, 1/6/20 whom also has the same address and phone number as MTCH plumbing Service Experts because I had low or no water pressure throughout the house. I had the manual open with alert codes ready for him but he refused to read it or listen to me. He told me I need a new hot water heater and to return it. I told him that I just want him to fix the problem. He said it would cost me $800 to re-install the new one and that I must pay a $99 membership fee to lock in that amazing price. He took almost one hour to do a hard sales tactic on the installation and called his boss, Mike a few times. What kind of a professional service company asks a woman if she's WAS MARRIED, HAS A BOYFRIEND, CHILDREN OR IF HER BROTHER LIVES NEARBY??? I felt so uncomfortable after that. I told him I can't return my new tank because it's under warranty and that I will get it fixed through the manufacturer. He then miraculously said "well there's more than one way to skin a cat" and he detached an automatic shutoff switch and showed me that the hot water hose was leaking. He didn't show me that before and do you know why? Because he wanted me to pay $800 plus $99 membership for amazing prices, plus parts to re-install a new one water heater that had nothing wrong with it. When he realized I wouldn't do that he said if I pay the $99 membership fee he will give me an amazing price of $350 to fix my leak. He said it was an emergency and that if he leaves without doing the work my basement will flood and he will have to charge me $150 for the time he spent there (which was an hour of high pressure, intimidating sales tactics)!!! I wanted him out of my house as soon as possible and I was uncomfortable with him in my home and afraid my basement would flood so I agreed to the price of $480 to replace one small hose and 6 inches of pipe which took him 20 minutes and he had me sign an iPad mini. The water turned back on but it still didn't get up to temperature. He said it takes time to heat up. The next day I only had cold water!!! He made me fill out a review sheet on him and stood over me as I filled it out. He reviewed it and commented on the scores I gave him and told me to change the scores. I crossed them out and changed them to higher scores in order to keep him calm so he would leave. He had me pay him in full on the spot and I did via credit card. He also said the F word in front of my son when he got home from school. The next day I had no hot water. I called the manufacturer (should have done that in first place) and he walked me through how to fix it in 20 minutes. Everything works now and I have hot water. Stay away from this company! My elderly in-laws thought they were calling Roto Rooter and unfortunately they got Montco Rooter. They had a clogged drain and were told that it would initially be $739. They were unable to clear the drain and were told they would have to cut into the basement ceiling to get a better scope and that would be several hundred dollars. 4 hours later, no repair was made, the pipe somehow now has a hole in it and they said they would have to come back 2 days later to run a new line and that would be at least $3,000. Then they charged them $2,000 for the 4 hours that they were there with no resolve or explanation. There was noting provided to them in writing. They did not once notify them that it would more than originally quoted nor did they ask if they wanted them to continue. They had no idea what work was done and what they were getting with the future work. They never received an invoice and upon our inquiry the owner Mike Horn emailed an invoice that was never emailed prior. My in-laws had originally signed a contract stating no deposit was required but when we finally got the invoice 7 days later they had charged them $1,108 for a non-refundable deposit. At the bottom of the invoice they had forged my in-laws signature. They don't know how to sign an online document. We were able to cancel the new pipe from being installed and refused to pay the deposit that was added. I called Montco Rooter to check out a plumbing issue that I was having at my home. I spoke with the Manager named Brandon and he quoted me dispatch charge of $79 that would be rolled into the cost of performing the job if we decided to have work performed. They came out reasonably prompt. The actual plumber was very professional. When it came time to quote me a price to have my kitchen sink drain snaked, I was quoted a price of $739. $739 to snake one kitchen sink drain! The plumber then offered me a reduced price of $655 or thereabouts. The plumber put me in contact with Brandon (the Manager) and I advised Brandon that the price of $739 was unreasonable, ridiculous and unseemly for snaking a kitchen drain. He then quoted me a price of $500. I told him I was not convinced or sure that I was going to proceed with services but that I wanted to know what was covered or warrantied for the price I would pay. At that point he told me that he wasn't convinced that they would do the work and that I should just pay the $79 and they could leave. I proceeded to tell him that him dismissing me for advising him that I wasn't sure that I was going to proceed with service while asking him what was warrantied was very inappropriate. I declined service. I would never do business with Montco Rooter and specifically, Brandon has some customer service issues. I will post this same review on every outlet available because people should be aware of poor customer service. For customers wondering whether they should give them a try, you should keep looking and would be wise to do business elsewhere where they are reasonably priced and sensitive to customer needs. As many of the other reviews say, this place is a total rip off. I needed a new line hooked up to my dryer. The guy shows up without the new line, went out to buy and charged me $90 for a $35 part. Then charged $400 on top of that to take the old line off and put the new one on. Took 5 minutes. Then he tried to trick me into buying some sort of membership. I have complained directly to them numerous times to no avail. Looking at the other complaints, it seems they especially take advantage of women. read more

These guys charged us $209 to use a plunger, yes, a plunger, to fix the drain. The fix lasted one day, and now the shower is completely flooded. Now they want to credit us the $209 and charge an additional $440 to use a snake, which they should have used the first time. That is a total of $649 to use a snake to unclog a drain. GOT DRAINS charges $295 with a guarantee. I am sure there are many other companies in this price range. Do not use MONTCO Rooter, they will rip you off. read more

We had a tub that wasn't draining correctly and our washer was backing up and leaking everywhere. My husband called this company mistaking them for Roto Rooter. Our first experience them was not great, we had Ben come to take a look at things he essentially ignored everything my husband was telling him and went straight to removing our basement toilet charging us $500 for an angle stop, snaked our drain, and told us our trap was installed backwards and if we wanted to do anything else it would be $10,000. Our house was built in the 1950's with zero plumbing issues prior to this so we weren't sold. After bring charged $1500 for the overall services we still had the same issues plus the angle stop he installed was done improperly so every time you flushed all the pipes rattled. We called back and whoever I spoke to kept cutting me off and saying that everything my husband relayed to me was misunderstood and that they would send Ben back out there. I ended the phone call there and had my husband call, he had a different experience and even told the guy he didn't appreciate how I was treated and that he wasn't paying anything more and wanted a different person to come out. Brian came to her home Friday promptly inspected everything and fixed Ben's mistakes plus found what was blocking our pipes in 2 hours. He was kind courteous and knew his stuff. He confirmed that our trap wasn't the problem which we knew and apologized for the job not being done properly. If you go with this company please ask for Brian to avoid a lot of the frustration. He's committed to doing the job properly and is very honest. He tells you step by step what he is doing and he's the only reason why I'm willing to leave a 5 star review despite the initial issues we had with this company. read more

This is a scam company and they will rip you off. Montco-Rooter installed a water heater in my home. They refused to tell me the price of the water heater when I asked for an estimate, claiming that the price of water heaters change literally by the hour. I had already signed the labor agreement and foolishly trusted that they wouldn't take advantage of me. After installation of the water heater was complete it was revealed to me that the price of the water heater, an AO Smith 40 gallon proline that retails for about $750 (AO Smith themselves confirmed this price) was in fact $1467.30. They also charged us the hidden fee of $198 just to pick it up from a warehouse. Labor was $790 after their "discounts" were applied. They graciously waived the $209 "diagnostic fee" and the $79 "dispatch fee." Yes, they will charge you almost $300 for just showing up to your house even if they do no work. Total cost of everything was a whopping $2611. After speaking with numerous contractors and plumbers, they unequivocally told me that I was completely ripped off and that the cost of the tank was likely doubled and that the cost of the labor was off the charts for a job like that. Most people told me that they had their water heaters replaced and installed for a maximum of $1300. read more

Very unprofessional. Never told about 79$ dispatch fee. Upon entering house technician wore no mask. Called about a clogged drain and asked for estimate for drain cleaner. They could not provide one , but before even looking at issue technician told me it would cost 649$. I politely declined, and was then told about 79$ dispatch fee. RUN AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!! My elderly mother called them to replace a kitchen sink faucet, add a under counter filter to same sink water line, and snake a bathroom sink. No estimate until tech arrives, then its $500.00 or more to do each job individually. A qualified plumber could have done this job in 3 hours. They use "Flat Rate" pricing not hourly so the can make up any amount they want and charge per the job. How does a 90 yo lady know what's fair? I called mgr. he was one rude s.o.b. saying we give estimates and she signed them (she signed no such estimate) then basically said we have lawyers if you try to pursuit unfair business practices with state atty general. They make you pay a "Membership Fee" for some BS bogus membership in their robbery club I guess. If I could give no stars I would. I needed a simple toilet filter valve replacement and was given a 400 + quote. After the plumber realized I wasn't having it, he called his boss and he was on speakerphone saying he would give me $35 off as if that was a great deal. I let him know the piece that needed to be fixed was $7 at Home Depot. He then goes on to say he doesn't buy his parts from Home Depot and the part is $48 where he goes. Luis was our tech, he was respectful of our property and friendly. After that it was all down hill, with ridiculous rates and con-man tactics. Stated he wasn't aware if we were "members" but gave us member prices even though we had there coupons and "members advantage" folder. Refused to allow us to use the coupons and stated the price was 480 (tech was there an 1 hour, 20 tops/flat rate billing). After he installed our new kitchen faucet without even attempting to repair or telling us the price, we got the bill for the faucet that came to 315.99 (149.99 everywhere else). Tech tried to sell that this faucet is the top of the line before I researched and said he said it would last twice as long than Home Depot models that are half the price (so same thing). Previously they worked on an emergency issue for us and fixed the main problem (non-stop running shower) but ended up creating leaking from our shower head and handles of replaced work they did. Kitchen faucet tech stated "it is what it is" with 3 handle tubes. They are great for responding when you need them and easy to set up appt but refuse to respond when you have an issue. Mike answered and said it would be $49 to have someone come out and tell me what is wrong. I confirmed I would pay $49 and I would get a free estimate on the problem and then determine if I want to proceed. The tech arrived and could not tell us anything about the issue and that it would be $209 to diagnose and over $400 to take off the toilet. Stay away from this company. They are not on the up and up.
