Decent cuts of tenderloin with little fat and the sauce was ok although bit on the bland side. - Side Beef Barley Soup - not a bad side and taste and consistency was good. - Shrimp Cocktail - not what I was expecting and was not good tbh. The shrimps were on the dry side and seafood sauce was very average. I would have preferred a basic cocktail glass of fresh, tender shrimp. Service (3.75/5) - server was friendly and understood the menu well. Slight delay in between dishes and getting bill at end. Atmosphere (4/5) - it is an interesting layout with an old school steakhouse feel with touches of British & Canadian upscale artifacts like the paintings of past prime ministers. Two people ordered roast beef which they said were deliccious and were done medium-rare. My ribeye steak came out medium-well, despite my request for medium-rare. To be fair to the chef, the steak was so astonishingly thin, the difference in cook time between the two could probably be measured in a couple of seconds. Despite being overcooked, the steak was nonetheless nicely spiced, although very small for the quoted weight from the menu. When it was pointed out to the waiter that my steak and one other steak entree were overdone, the waiter's response was silence and a quiet "oh". A disappointing evening. When I go to a restaurant and I order steak, if I'm not confident in their ability to cook a steak to the right "doneness", I usually order medium. I prefer medium rare, and when I go to Hickory, my steak always comes out medium rare. Perfect! My only gripe in the past, was the service of the wait staff. When Hickory first opened, sometimes one could sit at a table waiting for drinks for 25 minutes in one case. In more recent visits, I must say that the service has vastly improved. The wait staff seems to be very snappy. As I currently sit in Hickory writing this review (while ignoring my girlfriend;) ), our current server is absolutely fantastic.
