The worst place I have ever worked. Beyond corrupt management stealing or allowing theft. No standards for keeping FOH staff accountable regarding attendance, work ethic or even giving the slightest damn about their jobs. Corporate office that covers all of this up, allows managers to steal thousands of dollars, and backs RACIST AND HOSTILE CUSTOMERS over loyal staff. Yes that happened they fired a host who called a racist customer out and the corporate apologized to the racist jerk and fired the host. WHO would want to work in a place that does something like this? If you are hard working, loyal and care about customer service here the management just uses you up. Seriously... 3 years and never sick and no lateness. I needed a sick day and they did nothing even though the average employee had lateness and sickness a few times a month. If you want a bumper sticker for a place that doesn't reward merit but allows laziness and poor results than choose APPLEBEES. By the way if you complain how often you have to COVER other people's shifts, TAKE others tables when they are late, or PICK up other employees side duties because they just left and you are holding the bag than YOU are the bad employee. Happened every single week and guess what did they usually fire, reprimand bad employees or hire good ones. SPOILER: NO, OF COURSE NOT. What I did get was a lot of flak/bullshit and rhetoric from second rate (charitable given they are actually third rate) management about my attitude. Same with other great employees who had a enough and moved on. I'll ask the average person out there? Would you be happy CONSTANTLY having to cover missed shifts, lateness and other duties Weekly (usually daily) and never getting ANY RAISES, BONUSES, or at least the firing or disciplining of such employees who ALWAYS LET YOU DOWN. This wasn't a day, or a week, or a monthly occurrence it was 3 years... COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. And I know that when my old bosses see this they know I am right and they should realize that they are not good managers, they were the weak link. I did my job, they and their corporate bean counters didn't do theirs. The answer is or course no, and I get it's a restaurant where most people are assumed expendable but the ideas of merit, loyalty, and gratified were absent at Applebee's. What wasn't absent was managers fu**ing half the staff, stealing or sitting around most of the time. My favourite thing was taking pictures of managers on their meal break (RARELY GOT ONE MYSELF) during the busy times in the restaurant. And if all that wasn't enough I was also constantly bullied by one of the staff without any consequences. Again, an employee who was ALWAYS late or absent and who I compensated for but the management allowed it FOR MONTHS without any consequences. She was a girl bullying a guy so I guess that's okay because the opposite results in immediate action. They literally changed my shifts constantly to work for days she wouldn't show up (every Monday pretty much right Rich?), when she was supposedly sick, had an appointment whatever. And again I needed one day off ONCE without notice in 3 years and I DIDNT GET IT! It's not a joke, I've documented it all (like everything else) but instead of the management having my back after all the times I covered shifts, lateness and Saving them they DID NOTHING! NOTHING UNTIL I HAD TO WRITE A LETTER UP. I had to WRITE A letter (still have it) about being bullied for months after trying to get this resolved many times just to be left alone to do my job! And guess what she's wasn't fired, reprimanded or moved to another store. Nope... that is how well they treat a loyal employee. Should NOTE that the same employee regularly bullied managers and staff without consequence. When MANAGEMENT is too afraid to fire a terrible employee but EXPLOITS a good one then you know the place sucks! Prove me wrong APPLEBEES! Guess what she got fired AFTER she was rude to a new manger when had backbone, not because of what she did before. Besides this management allowed countless theft by former managers in over 10s of 1000s or dollars and stealing hours electronically. I won't name the managers name but he stole daily in drinks, food and hours and APPLEBEES AND Corporate did nothing for years! They know this was happening and they told me. Did they do anything? Another spoiler: No! (also documented this). I saw this daily, often reported it, and many of the managers acknowledged it but for years nothing happened. The current GM at Applebee's here also deliberately sabotaged his own kitchen manager a few years ago by lying and falsifying records. This man who talks about integrity and teamwork has no problem backstabbing his right hand man.
