Here was our experience. EXPERIENCE: Parking: As usually advised, come early. This is no hidden gem so this picks up fast. Other alternatives is carpooling or arrange a tour. Depends on where you stop, but parking fills up FAST. Come early if you want the better trail access and less stress. Visitor access is managed largely because of parking limitations Vibes: The feelings from the temperature and energy changes. One night we were partying the streets of Santurce, next we we're in this chill and calm quiet area. There are paved scenic stops, short walking trails, and engaging areas such as waterfalls and river areas. You really can make it as adventurous as you want. OVERALL: 5 Stars. What's there to hate about this place? Maybe it can get super crowded but aside from that, it's a beautiful Puerto Rico experience. Whether you want waterfalls, hikes, scenic drives, or just to disconnect for a few hours, this place delivers. After that, you're not too far away from Luquillo Beach! Tips: * Go EARLY for parking and lighter crowds * Bring water shoes or shoes you don't mind getting muddy

Review #1,050 Posted on 5.1.26…read more We came to hike the Mt Britton trail at El Yunque on Friday the 24th of April. This was one of the better experiences of our trip, it was awesome up there. The parking is a bit tricky, honestly if I had to do it over again, I probably would've just parked a tad sooner then walked up more, but if you do that, it's a lot more time & walking/energy spent. The drive to those areas to park/hike is super scenic. You've got tons of green, and sounds of birds all around you, we rolled our windows down and soaked it all in. We parked pretty close to where the trail to hike Mt Britton begins, and it took us about 40 minutes to get to the castle, when you make it to the castle for sure go inside and walk the staircase to the top/roof. The views are awesome up there and you get some good photo opps. I would 100% make sure to do this again next time we visit.

It can be cloudy or misty at the top, but if you get a break of sunshine, you can see the northeast part of the island (Fajardo and Cayo icacos) as well as the tall buildings of San Juan. This was definitely one of the highlights of our family visit to El Yunque National Forest. As of April 2022, the trail head is open. But there's some road construction in effect. You can park near the entrance of Route 9938 (about 10 spots are available on the roadside), but will need to walk 0.2 km to the trailhead entrance. From that point, it's a steady climb along an elevated concrete path with trees on both sides. Not too much to see along the way, but you may hear some coqui frogs (with its 2 distinct rising tones) and birds calling. 3 rest stops with benches are provided along the trail if you need to catch your breath. Toward the end, you'll see another paved road and then ascend up a final short climb to the tower itself. Be sure to go all the way to top (3rd floor) for the 360 degree vista! It's well worth the effort. If you're not accustomed to uphill hiking, be sure to take rest breaks along the way and bring water. To reach the trailhead, you will need an advance reservation ($2 through recreation.gov). The park limits the number of vehicles each day (to avoid overcrowding). One tip is to arrive at the trailhead in the early morning (by 9:00am) when it's less busy. You will see a lot more people and tour groups by 11:00am.

It was a nice and chill hike. Very easy, flat for the most part. The only uphill hike is the on the trail to reach El Morrillo, which are two bunkers left over from WW2. They overlook the ocean and we're used to spot German U-boats. It was pretty cool, and the view is even cooler. The Reserve has beach access. I believe you can get in so bring a bathing suit if you plan on taking a dip. The same trails for hiking are used for bike riding, so be aware for bikers. Also, if you are riding a bike, be mindful of hikers. The Reserve has a fishing platform. They don't rent fishing equipment. You have to bring your own. We saw a guy catch a tilapia. The lagoon is great for birdwatching so bring those binoculars. Overall, this is a perfect spot for a family outing and also a date (of your date enjoys the outdoors). Note: the address and pin on this page are incorrect. The address says Bayamón,PR instead of Humacao,PR. The pin has it on Just off PR-3. That is wrong. It is right on PR-3. You will see the entrance on the right. I made the edit, hopefully the update will be up soon. This spot is worth visiting.

I hadn't hiked for a while and our 4 year old had never been on a hike. It was a lovely experience. He loved it. We spotted turtles, lizards, fish, birds, and a hermit crab. The Reserve is an excellent place to bring kids. Very family friendly. I hope to come back soon to try the kayaking and to fish. For fishing, you have to bring your own equipment. They also rent bikes. That would also be fun. They don't have food or drinks here, at least not that I noticed. Better bring your own. They have some picnic tables. Also, the Reserve is not too far from food options. You will find several places to eat nearby on the PR-3, such as the Malecón de Naguabo, which has good seafood places.

I definitely recommend doing this tour if you go to Puerto Rico! Definitely worth my time and money. Amazing experience of a lifetime! *Take hiking shoes and if you don't have any, RENT some from them. You will be sorry if you don't! The entire tour from the maintenance of the private trails to the coordination of activities was expertly handled. Throughout the day I did things not experienced for decades like jumping off 40ft waterfalls, repelling down rock faces, and body sliding down natural water slides. I brought my young son along for the adventure and here again these guys shined in a big way, Fernando specifically paid extra special attention to his safety but also making sure he had a great time. The expertise in safety and the detailed oriented planning put into this adventure allowed me to do what I came to do - have fun, without fearing injury or harm to my young Son. These caliber of activities (some might call them "extreme") would not usually instill such a feeling of calm and safety in me - or most people in general. This was the best tour of any kind that I've ever been on. If you love nature, hiking, andwater do it. It's the best money you'll spend on a tour.

We had the Chicken Sandwhich and fries and although they were pretty good, they were pricey, so I recommend you don't make the same mistake we made. We really enjoyed the short film in the theater and after visiting the exhibits and the gift shop, we were ready to explore. One of my favorite hikes is to La Mina Waterfall, but it was closed for repairs during our visit, so instead we hiked the Mt. Britton trail and really enjoyed it. It's considered a Moderate hike with a paved path almost the whole way. At the top, there is a Tower, where you can enjoy views in all directions. I recommend you take your time as you hike, to enjoy the sounds and suprise wildlife sightings as well as the vegetation and the damp rainforest air. A truly unique and beautiful experience. Make sure you have water with you. It was cool when we started, but it quickly warmed up, so I was glad that I didn't get complacent and had plenty of water. A visit to El Yunque is definitely a 5/5 experience.
