Need comics, board games or collectables? I've no doubt that you'll find them here. Especially if you're looking for Funko. Probably the biggest collection of different figures I've seen in Halifax. The store is quite large, which is surprising because it doesn't look big from the street. It doesn't look like much, but once you start wandering through the store you'll find the selection unbeatable. I didn't interact with the staff on this visit - they were busy chatting with someone else about board games, and I didn't need any help so I didn't bother them - but they seem really knowledgeable and excited to share their knowledge with customers. read more

Monster Comic Lounge is located along Gottingen Street. It is a Hidden Gem, for all those Comic Fans. I actually went on a search for this store. You have to know where to look or you will miss it for sure. I happened to meet the owner Mike. A pretty relaxed guy, I guess you would have to be in this business. I have never seen so many comics in my life. This store is jammed packed full of adventure of all kinds, there is not an ounce of space not used. Mike has been at this location for about 4 years, but has been in the business for much longer. This store is know by an elite group of people already. You will find your new and used Comic Books, Game Boards, Graphic Novels (20% off) always, Action Figures, Card Games. I am probably missing a lot, but lets just say, Mike has it. Now, I have to say, it is worth the venture to see the Statue of Yoda (look at the picture attached). It is fantastic. Life Sized!! Who knew Comics had such a large following. Well they do! Go and Enjoy. read more

Whether you are into any portion of geek/nerd culture, or are just a little curious about it, this is a great place for beginners and advanced dungeon masters alike! As an avid comic reader and appreciator of all things "geek", I swing by Monster at least once a week, and sometimes twice! Mike and the staff are all friendly, knowledgeable, and more than willing to discuss just about anything you want to talk about! They all keep it light and fun, just as things in a well run comic shop should be. Toys, games, single issue comics, trades/graphic novels/hard covers, books, card games, if you've got a nerd passion for it, they have it or will order it for you! Check the place out if you're shopping for a new shop, or even just looking for a break from the same old thing everywhere else! read more

I saw the Batman light in the window... and I knew we'd all be saved. But seriously, I thought that was a clever tactic. Not at all a comic book junkie, I traveled into Monster on a whim, fully prepared for sci-fi nerd city. (Respectfully) Well, boys. Looks like fantasy fanatics can revel in the delights of full bodied archives. Rows upon rows of comics-- both limited edition and bulk-- are offered in plentiful amounts. Pictures aren't enough? Oh... well why don't you check out the sky-high wall selection of action figures- 'cuz there are lots. Jeeze Louise, I'm not sure what to do with myself in this place, but the staff seem friendly, I eyeball the flurry of surrounding product and realize that yes, dungeons and dragons is indeed an actual thing. Cool. For those in the market, this place should prove to be a gold mine. They appear to have extensive materials for both looking and buying. I didn't know where to start, but I felt the power of the jedi inside Monster's quarters. The red sun rises... only you can decide your fate. read more

Of all the comic shops in Halifax, this one took the longest for me to visit. Self, what the hell? This may be my new favourite place to geek out. I'm only sad it took me so long to get here. This is one of my two go-to-place for nerd gifts. I've gotten Christmas and Birthday presents here, and I've never had a miss yet. They have everything from your usual suspect comics to harder to find books, and a shocking amount of merchandise that comes at you from all angles. Monster is exactly what the name say, a monster of a store. It's easily the largest comic shop we have in the city, but it does tend to have a feeling of chaos about it. This is one of those places where you need to take your time and circle through a few times in order to see everything. This can be fun, but it can also be a bit frustrating if you're pressed for time. I do wish things were organized just a little bit better, but sometimes half the fun is in the search. Go with time to spare. Action figures, card games, board games, or trades- Check this place out. The staff is friendly and helpful, ready to order in items or to point out what they have for recommendations. You won't be disappointed. read more

All I can say about this shop is it's wonderful for collectors, players, readers and all that stand for all that is nerdy. -They have great prices for comics, cards [Magi the gathering, Vanguard, and ect.] -They can order or hold items for you for about 2 weeks to a month -Great employees -Highly Knowledgeable about different games, comic book series, certain novels and collector toys -A lot of room for people to play board games or card games [front or back area] All in all a fine store to get your geek on read more

Went here while in town visiting friends and I'm in love with this store! I have been here twice already, once in April and again in August. The employees are always knowledgeable and are always excited to tell you about the latest things! The comic book selection, the figurines and board game selection is the best in Halifax (I have went to other stores and none compare). Trust me, you will not be disappointed! read more

Monster Comic Lounge is a great comic book shop! They have a great selection of games, issues, trades, graphic novels, back issues, action figures and even some novels! The store is bigger than you would initially expect. I've always found that the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I don't remember them ever making a mistake on a friend's pull list, which is impressive! They also will let you trade in your comics, etc. The shop's particularly handy for people living in the North End or who want to avoid going downtown. Since it's on Gottingen, it's accessible by a number of buses and there is on-street parking just out front and on the side streets. I definitely recommend Monster as a place to browse and to set up a pull list! read more

Great place, with a fantastic staff! Honestly, it's the staff that make me choose it over others. They are super knowledgeable, and completely into their products. They don't even make judgements when you are seeking out lame comic books. Their board game selection is fantastic, and they can usually order things in for you. With on par prices (a tad cheaper than other places). And their comic books, a plenty! They even supply a 20% off discount for them! Also, they have many geek paraphernalia, lots of action figures and other cool oddities. Definitely worth a check out for your neck nerd gift giving occasion. oh and by the way- the street or neighbourhood, or whatever garbage people go on about- does not in the least affect their image, service, or my likelihood of going there. Be North End proud! read more

This place is great. That is all. :-) The comic store with no sign that seems to have grown organically on Gottingen is a not-so-hidden gem. They have everything: all the titles you can think of, lots of gaming merchandise and, most importantly, knowledgeable staff. It's nice when the staff can answer your questions regarding an 80's Swamp Thing comic collection without missing a beat. Prices seem reasonable for a comic/games store. It's large with plenty of room between displays. And they really do seem to have everything. I see Mike getting some Dr. Who stuff for Christmas ... read more

This is such an unexpectedly awesome store. Without a massive flashy sign, you assume it's going to be a drab shack of a store, instead you walk into a huge space filled with comics, games, action figures and everything else from nerddom. I don't have a lot of money to spend on such things but it doesn't stop me from going in and drooling over everything (not literally, I don't want to dampen the merchandise). read more

This is definitely my favourite comic/games shop in Halifax. The owner and staff are always helpful and friendly and this makes it a cut above. They have different and quirky selection and are keen to support local as well. I don't understand why they still don't have a sign up on their shop on Gottigen St though. Is there a story about that? read more

It is as good as it get's in Canada anyway. There's other great shops in the country. That's true. I've hit up every one of them in the 35 years I've been collecting and this one tops them all and I'm lucky it's in my home town. . Most importantly and everyone will notice this, they are NEVER too busy to do business. Friendly staff. Secondly .. they order a lot of inventory so count on them having your product They have a lot of back issues so forget EBAY until you have checked them out. They have all the Toys .. game nights. Check out there Facebook group for times on games. They have customers hours, clearly they love what they do. I can remember their phone number without looking it up, 429 2398. It has not changed in thirty years. It's moved locations a couple of times but it this is no slogan ... it really is the oldest comic shop in the Halifax Dartmouth Region. read more

I've been a long time customer of the shop. The staff are great always welcoming. They've recently relocated to a larger location next to the old one. A great store just got greater, much more room to wander and look at all the products. read more

Great selection but they need a bit more manga. The store is well lit and organized very well. Staff is friendly and you could probably talk to them for hours about anything nerdy. read more

For some reason, Monster Comic Lounge seems to get passed over my comic book buffs. I'll be honest, I didn't even know it existed until I walked by it about a year ago and assumed it was new but as we can all see here on Yelp, there are reviews for it that go back over three years. Even then, it took me a bit longer to actually go in. What gives? There's nothing intimidating about the place. I can't even pin it on its location as I walk down Gottingen Street multiple times a week to get to work (or downtown in general from my house). It's a question I can't answer. What I CAN tell you is that this place has the most comic books than any of the other shops in Halifax. In addition to what you see on the shelves, there are piles of boxes in the back that I assume we can browse to if we wanted. Not to mention the shelves of back issues already out anyway. Compared to Strange Adventures, Monster doesn't have as many knick knacks and toys, which may be why people don't happen to wander in as much. But if you know what you're looking for in printed form, this is a good place to go. They also host gaming sessions but I don't know much about the world of games so I can't add too much about this. I'm really only interested in Ninja Turtle comics... read more

Great store for magic, comics and board games. Staff has always been nice and friendly.

By Far My Personal Favorite Comic Store in Halifax. The Owner is Very Friendly and more than Helpful,he takes time to answer any question you may have. If there's a Product you are looking for He'll get it if He doesn't have it,the Prices are more than fair and the Store is easily found. I don't have any Issue giving Him My Money. Great Place! read more

This is my favourite comic book shop. They're super helpful and friendly, and it always smells neutral.

While I have to admit, I won't go to shop there alone and late at night, it's worth braving the neighborhood to go. Although I wish they would carry used games, no one in the area does, so I have to assume it's not a viable market. Their game selection is pretty tempting, but for me its the comic selection that makes me wonder around, touching the spines on the shelves, and drooling on my feet. Staff are always helpful, and will usually ask me if I'm looking for something after I wander around, dazed by all the pretty things. If I only have time to go to one game/comic store when I'm in Halifax, this is the one. read more
