And the local products are wonderful! You can find things that cover nearly every fandom out there and some take requests as well. Wood craft signs, resin products, knit/crochet/sewn. And he does have delivery options and online shop.

There are pillows in there for example - just two pieces of fabric sewn together and stuffed, nothing fancy - for over thirty bucks. In this economy? There are things up about the store that also refer to Canada as "Turtle Island", which is preachy and a colonizer term (colonists brought maps from above and the "Turtle Island" thing is contentious and offensive to other Indigenous tribes that don't adhere to this term for Canada). I was only able to afford a pinback button (an ace flag, I love ace representation!) and a second-hand Beanie Baby because most of the new merch was so expensive. Friendlier environment than Strange Adventures, and I loved how kind and approachable the staff were. To be fair, this is a somewhat recently-established shop in comparison with its competition, and so the price thing might just be teething troubles, but nobody in this economic climate could afford to buy much here.

I stopped in here a few times because I always love a good comic book store experience. When I came…read morein I was really happy that they had so many cool things to look at. I wouldn't necessarily call myself a comic book fan but I love to look at the manga and figurines. I asked if they had any Archie comic books for sale and I was directed toward some and was told that they were selling old Archie books for $1.00 each. I couldn't believe my ears. I excitedly asked where I could find them and I bought five of them. I've loved the Archie books since I was a kid (before the terrible television show Riverdale came out). I thanked the store employee for being so helpful and he introduced me to their adorable dog who I now follow on Instagram. The dog's Instagram handle is @strangegromit. Please give this dog a follow. He's SO CUTE! While he isn't always at the store, if you go every day like I did while I was in Halifax, you're bound to run into him at some point.

The lack of care, compassion and simple decency by this store is disgusting. INTOLERANT people like these have NO BUSINESS working with the public. So, if you yourself are a bad person then by all means give these people money. But... If you are a decent person with decent values and if you value inclusion of all people (including those with disabilities) then STAY AWAY.

All in the same size store. It is chaos. And it's awesome. I'm always on the search for a specific issue of a comic I read in the 80s that I need to complete my collection (boy, does that sound geeky). So of course we had to stop in here. There is very little room for people. It's floor-to-ceiling books, comics, trading cards, games, etc. They have absolutely everything, but good luck finding it. Boxes on top of boxes of comics in sort-of order. Fortunately the owner knows where everything is. He's a very busy man, from the looks of it; the store was very busy on our visit, and it was a Tuesday. If you love digging (literally) through mountains of media in search of a hidden jewel, you will absolutely love this place. Definitely worth a drive to the valley.

Downtown Dartmouth

First off, big thumbs up for investing in downtown Dartmouth!…read more Secondly, a nice expansion to the Strange Adventures brand. Providing all your comic/fantasy/sci-fi needs in a wee tiny little shop? That's the model upon which the Strange Adventures' legend was built. There are, of course, some downsides to such a small location. It can be a bit cramped and definitely intimate. If you're incredibly shy, this may not be the best venue for you. The stock is also limited but they can order in pretty much anything you want that's not in store. Still, they have the latest and greatest. Whether you're buying for yourself or getting a gift for someone, staff can help you navigate the geekery and find just what you're looking for. Overall, a great addition to Strange Adventures' line and to Dartmouth.

Here's what I knew: this small shop on the corner of Portland and Wentworth was hosting an extensive half-price sale on their comic books and graphic novels. Here's what I didn't know: that the sale was combined with a 'take one for free' deal. So, there I am, looking through the collection to pick out the first comic I've bought since my youth, and I land on a very cool Marvel Origins book that basically outlines...uh...the origins of all the great heroes. $30, half-off, a hella deal. As any customer would, I take it to the counter, ready to take advantage of the promotion when the guy says, "Cool. Enjoy." and slides it back over to me. Intelligent and articulate as I could be, I said something along the lines of, "Buuuuaaahh huh?" Yep - apparently I could have taken it home for free. Just 'cause. I mean, that's not even a sale. That's just free awesome stuff, right? Am I crazy? Anyhow, since taking it would have made me feel like a shoplifter, I picked out a cheaper comic as a freebie and paid $13 for the big one. Any shop literally shoving free product in my hand seriously deserves some of my cash. I still got a crazy deal but avoided the guilt of being the biggest freeloading first-time customer ever. A Strange Adventure indeed.

My first experience with Taz was when staff refused to order me a fairly big indie release in 2023…read morebecause "their suppliers didn't have it." As I type this review I see on Taz.com that there is currently one copy of that exact record in Halifax and one in Bedford. Not sure why Taz refused my $45 when I was happy to wait for the album to arrive in store. My next experience with Taz was very similar. I pre-ordered another record on Taz.com and when release day arrived I anxiously awaited a phone call or email. I heard nothing, so I checked online to see if I had misremembered the release date. There were 9 copies on the shelves waiting to be bought. I called the store and asked if my order was ready, the employee was completely baffled. While the staff did the right thing and (I assume) took a copy off the shelf for me, this is a pretty major oversight. I had received my confirmation email before I hung up the phone. Staff at the Halifax location are truly some of the most miserable people I have had the misfortune of doing business with. I have no desire to return, although I have had fantastic experiences with Sunrise Records in Dartmouth so I will continue to build my 400-500 strong record collection. Taz records is the enshittification of vinyl and media shopping incarnate. Record stores are going the way of Blockbuster and HMV and it is because of poor management and misguided ownership, only interested in making a quick buck from a dying industry.
