I really love going into Showtime Video. The owners/workers are very welcoming and the place has a…read morenice feel. I know, it's just a corner store, but nonetheless I have a pleasant time during my regular pop-ins. Showtime has become my movie center of choice. Sure it's no Video Difference which is just around the bend, but for $4 (tax in) you can rent a new or old release. I appreciate not having to spend a full fiver on a DVD, because really once you're over the five dollar mark, it might as well be ten bucks if you ask me. Recently, I was baking banana bread and didn't want to go to the grocery store, so what did I do? I went to Showtime and lo and behold, they had brown sugar and a few other ingredients that I required. Support this family run business and swing by Showtime for a DVD or a candy bar. But make sure your rental is back by 7pm the next day or face the $4 penalty. And for you folks out there who are pornographically inclined, I've heard tell of an adult section... but don't tell your mother.

I have been using this store for over 11 years. I went down to take out money from their bank…read moremachine. Expecting to pay 4.00 in order to get 240.00. Instead they changed their machine to allow only 120.00 at a time and a 4.00 cost. They expected me to spend 8.00 on 240.00. They dont think about the people coming into use their machine. That most people around this location are limited in funds.

The washers are good, but the dryers, at least the few that work, were programmed to give you only…read morethirty minutes of drying time, for the first $2; each additional quarter gives only five minutes. If the dryer you chose doesn't work, the guy who laughs at everything you say won't believe a single thing you say until you prove to him that the machines are garbage, but even after you prove it he'll laugh some more. And WHEN you complain he'll claim that "you're the only one who complains" before telling you to go elsewhere to do your laundry. Yes, in all the years of that garbage heap being there, I'm the only one who's had issue with their shitty machines - trés believable. *insert eyeroll here* He does nothing except yakk on the phone for most of the time any customers are there and he pretends that he's the owner. Back to the machines: laughing boy will make a show of being willing to insert a few extra coins, when the machines malfunction, which is often, but will then return said coins to the cash register... but like I said, the washers are good. P.S. I took his advice and found a better laundromat... where ALL the machines work, where the $2 to start gives you an hour, and the staff aren't childish or a prick.

This place fed my junk food addiction all throughout high school. They have the luck of being…read moreright next door to Auburn Drive High School, so they know how to appeal to their teenage demographic: stocked with chips, pop, chocolate bars, an ice cream case, and best of all, a candy case. You can buy single-serve pop tarts and energy drinks to fuel you study period. That being said, they also know how to rake in the money with inflated prices. Now that I live a block away, it can be convenient to walk over for that bag of chips for girls night now, but that convenience comes at a premium cost, higher than the grocery store. Still, it's a clean, well-organized store, a decent-sized parking lot, and a family-run staff that, for the most part, is pleasant and polite. You can pop in for milk, bread, and snacks, so it hits the spot for convenience for basics. However, if possible, bring cash to pay with unless you want to be dinged with debit fees. I also recommend going outside of school hours, if you can, to avoid the congregating mass of teenagers with an insatiable hunger for salt and sugar.

Great local book business conveniently located in downtown Halifax. They have an excellent…read moreselection as well as a selection of stationary supplies and things like gift wrap, etc. They've never not had a book I was looking for, and the store is small enough that none of them were difficult to find. Very friendly staff. Awesome alternative to chapters!!
