I stopped in here a few times because I always love a good comic book store experience. When I came in I was really happy that they had so many cool things to look at. I wouldn't necessarily call myself a comic book fan but I love to look at the manga and figurines. I asked if they had any Archie comic books for sale and I was directed toward some and was told that they were selling old Archie books for $1.00 each. I couldn't believe my ears. I excitedly asked where I could find them and I bought five of them. I've loved the Archie books since I was a kid (before the terrible television show Riverdale came out). I thanked the store employee for being so helpful and he introduced me to their adorable dog who I now follow on Instagram. The dog's Instagram handle is @strangegromit. Please give this dog a follow. He's SO CUTE! While he isn't always at the store, if you go every day like I did while I was in Halifax, you're bound to run into him at some point. read more

After watching a video of their employees being BEYOND INTOLERANT to a gentleman with a disability (Tourette's) and hearing how they spoke to him there is no way that ANYONE with values or morals should give this place a penny. The lack of care, compassion and simple decency by this store is disgusting. INTOLERANT people like these have NO BUSINESS working with the public. So, if you yourself are a bad person then by all means give these people money. But... If you are a decent person with decent values and if you value inclusion of all people (including those with disabilities) then STAY AWAY. read more

There was a time I loved shopping here , often going out of my way to do so. The customer service progressively got worse and the final straw was the ridiculous treatment of my autistic nephew and his mother. What was once one of the highlights of my visits ( I'm from Calgary ) is now a place not even close to a consideration , and that's a real shame. read more

Popped into Strange Adventures while on vacation in Halifax and it was honestly a highlight of the trip! The proprietor was so kind and helpful. The shop was small but very well-stocked with comics old and new, graphic novels, figurines, board games, card games, and other diverse novelty and fan items. I was delighted to find two out of print Star Trek card game decks for a very reasonable price! I also left with an interesting book on female superheroes through history. Two stories of note about the proprietor: when my friend asked if they sold pens and he told her they didn't he proceeded to go into the back and simply give her a Doctor Strange pen! And then as we were leaving an interesting book caught our eye, and he told us to take it for no charge! He said it wasn't something people were usually looking for in his shop and just wanted it to go to a good home. Throwback to the good ole days of hardcopy comics and cool TV doll toys! Yup, in this little town of Halifax we stumbled upon this store. It was a reminder of the comic book store in Big Bang Theory but more hipster. Staff was not reminiscent of Stuart but more in line with trendy peeps who know their stuff. The ceiling was lined with figures from our comic days. The prices reflected prime nostalgia. I'm no expert but I'm guessing they are worth hundreds. Comic books were present in every aisle. I chuckled at all the tiny buttons and figurines. It was hard to leave because both of us could have stood in those aisles for hours. Come visit if you are ever visiting Halifax. read more

Tried to shop for a birthday gift for my nephew yesterday at the Strange Adventures shop on Prince Street. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, my friend and I waited outside because there were others in the shop. When the store clerk came to the door, we were greeted with such rudeness and a condescending tone that I said never mind because I did not want to shop somewhere that I don't feel welcome. I get it's a stressful time and had the clerk explained their policies without the attitude I would have been happy to follow the rules. Or walk away if they can't help people that don't know specifically what they're looking for. I still believe in shopping local but I will not put up with rudeness. I hope it was just a bad day for this man, but my friend and I were put off enough that I need to say something. read more

I love Strange Adventures. I go in there as often as I can to look at all of their new merch. Whether it's comics, Funko Pop's, figures, toys or pins that you're looking for, Strange Adventures has it. The shop is charming and fun, with friendly staff that don't harass you - just ask if you need a hand finding something. It's a pretty small shop and with all of the construction happening in the area it can be tricky to get into the shop if you're not walking. That being said, it's totally worth it to go through the extra effort. I could spend hours digging through the graphic novels and admiring the beautifully sculpted statuettes in their locked case. Don't forget to look on top of the shelves - they have some amazing nerdy collectibles up there too - I saw an amazing Godzilla last time I was in. PS: They don't take returns on comics. Makes sense (I imagine they had people read and return?) but it's something to note. read more

Quite the selection of comic book, toys and everything in between. Our kids were so excited to look around, but this is NOT a kid friendly store. Do NOT bring kids here. And to be honest, I'm sure the owner appreciates this review because they really do not want kids in their store. I've personally never experienced such rudeness in my life especially from a store owner. I understand children can be overwhelming, but there's a way to talk to them and these people definitely don't know how. Halifax is lovely, all the people are so nice, but we managed to find the most unfriendly people in the city and they all work here. Will not be back and would not recommend. read more

My husband and I were with our children and we stumbled on this great looking comic book toy collectible store as my husband has been chasing down a very expensive piece for his marvel collection he was ready to purchase some thing until the owner or whoever was working the counter we assume was the owner as he was the only one there could not be any ruder. He literally scoffed at my children as they walked in and keep in mind they are 8and 9 and behave better than most adults. It's funny because I didn't read reviews for this place until I decided to write this one and it seems he has an issue with any children in his store. He lost out on a quite expensive sale today because he was such a rude jerk. Truthfully I don't know how he stays in business with that attitude maybe he has a very rich boyfriend that funds him. Stay away and go online to big bad toy store much better customer service. Also if you make the poor decision to go in this store, don't open the door one second before you're about to walk out it because he'll bite your head off for that too! read more

Very unpleasant experience with who I'm assuming was the owner of the store. Went to the store with my very excited 3 year old who just wanted a spider man comic and my 3 month old who was in a stroller... my son didn't want to wear his mask because it was a little to big for him so we decided to wait outside and my fiance was going to find him a comic. On my way out the owner tried getting my sons attention and told him he needed a mask or he had to leave, first off we were already leaving and second if you have a issue with a child especially a 3 year old talk to the parents.. and commenting on how my fiance did nothing to help me is extremely childish, I did not need his help I was struggling trying to turn the stroller around while you were trying to rush us out the door. read more

New location. Same great everything else. I think the Mitchell House is a great place for a shop like this, right in the heart of the downtown core on Lower Water Street. Though I will admit, it's a little bit further out of my way now but it's a great excuse to venture further toward the waterfront than I normally would have. I don't have much to add that I didn't already write in my review for the old location about a year ago (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/strange-adventures-comicbook-shop-halifax#hrid:_My_6VYYZ12I6n-8_dDLvg - ROTD Jan 12, 2013!!) although I do feel that the new digs don't quite have the same charm as the old one. What I enjoyed about the Sackville location is that it felt like a cave and had the perfect atmosphere for the comic book reader in me. This new one is very much more open and... maybe exposed is the right term? Either way, it's through no fault of SA and they're still new here. I'm hoping for some window posters and the like soon. read more

I do miss the old location, but this one is arranged well and there is lots of room to manoeuvre past fellow shoppers. Good selection, and I really like the figurines and games as well. The lower rating is due to the complete lack of customer service. Or I should say, select customer service. Everyone who came in after me was greeted by the girl behind the counter. For some reason I was completely ignored, even when perusing things near the counter. I was looking for a specific comic compilation which did not appear to be in stock. Because of the staffer's ignorance I will be ordering it from another source. While they do have good selection overall and are in a good location, the salesgirl made my experience very "meh." A legend! I'd heard great things about Strange Adventures long before I visited. It's a lovely shop with lots of charm. Even though it's not a huge space, you don't feel cramped and there is plenty of showcasing. The comics and trade paperbacks are right at home with action figures and statuettes. Cal is a legend in the business and his hospitality is above what you'll find in most any shop in Canada. A genuine honor to visit and I hope to be back very soon. read more

So much cool stuff in one place! I couldn't get over the amount of merchandise they could fit into such a small space. Comic books, collectibles, and so much more! Now, most of the things in there are a bit on the pricey side. But really you are not going to find most of this stuff anywhere else around here. Great place and love the new location. read more

It's a great comic book store except they could have some Magic cards which they hardly do and also the staff is sometimes kind of sarcastic. Though there is this really cute girl who works there, hope to talk to her again next time I am in!! read more

The staff is absolutely rude. Only reason I go to this place at this point is the convenience of location. Rude staff aside, they also have frequently forgotten orders I've made for books (at least 3 times out of the 6 I've made over the time I've come here). ~ BUYER BEWARE ~ I had a pretty bad experience here... First off, I purchased several comics, which ended up coming to a total of around $350. I was startled by the price since I figured they would be worth much less, but ended up paying anyway since I figured I could check out the price online afterwards and get a refund if I got overcharged, and I didn't want to hold up others in the store waiting behind me. Well, turns out, I could have bought everything for at least $120 cheaper off amazon.ca, and when I asked them for a refund (barely 5 minutes later with the comics still in the bag) they outright refused, got VERY rude and adamant stating there were signs all over the store, even though there are no signs, just tiny cards they have taped to the countertops which just so happened to be completely covered by a stack of their own comics splayed out at the register which I was checking out at, and covered up by another employee at the other side of the counter (he was standing in front of it). Despite this, they expected me to know their store policy even though they didn't tell me about it before, during, or even after the purchase, and offered no condolences or sympathy for the fact I was out $120, telling me it was my fault and getting very rude and hostile towards me. I did call the owner as well, but he gave me the same attitude. Others have stated in other reviews, but they basically have no customer service, they make little effort to make their store policy clear to protect their customers, and they vastly mark up the price of their merch compared to other stores and services that sell them, all with no warning. I would not be surprised if they purchase their stock straight from amazon and then sell them directly in the store at a higher price. At that point, what is the purpose of a middleman? TLDR; please look out for yourselves and do not allow yourselves to get ripped off by this store. Everything they have can be easily found on amazon.ca for nearly half the price, + with free shipping! Consider other comic stores in or around Halifax, or make your purchase online for EXTREMELY less money, and way better service !!! PS: all Amazon websites have amazing return policies (; read more
