Probably the biggest collection of different figures I've seen in Halifax. The store is quite large, which is surprising because it doesn't look big from the street. It doesn't look like much, but once you start wandering through the store you'll find the selection unbeatable. I didn't interact with the staff on this visit - they were busy chatting with someone else about board games, and I didn't need any help so I didn't bother them - but they seem really knowledgeable and excited to share their knowledge with customers.

You have to know where to look or you will miss it for sure. I happened to meet the owner Mike. A pretty relaxed guy, I guess you would have to be in this business. I have never seen so many comics in my life. This store is jammed packed full of adventure of all kinds, there is not an ounce of space not used. Mike has been at this location for about 4 years, but has been in the business for much longer. This store is know by an elite group of people already. You will find your new and used Comic Books, Game Boards, Graphic Novels (20% off) always, Action Figures, Card Games. I am probably missing a lot, but lets just say, Mike has it. Now, I have to say, it is worth the venture to see the Statue of Yoda (look at the picture attached). It is fantastic. Life Sized!! Who knew Comics had such a large following. Well they do! Go and Enjoy.

There are pillows in there for example - just two pieces of fabric sewn together and stuffed, nothing fancy - for over thirty bucks. In this economy? There are things up about the store that also refer to Canada as "Turtle Island", which is preachy and a colonizer term (colonists brought maps from above and the "Turtle Island" thing is contentious and offensive to other Indigenous tribes that don't adhere to this term for Canada). I was only able to afford a pinback button (an ace flag, I love ace representation!) and a second-hand Beanie Baby because most of the new merch was so expensive. Friendlier environment than Strange Adventures, and I loved how kind and approachable the staff were. To be fair, this is a somewhat recently-established shop in comparison with its competition, and so the price thing might just be teething troubles, but nobody in this economic climate could afford to buy much here.

If you're into comics ..whether you're hunting down classic back issues or looking for new…read morereleases. Strange Adventures on Prince Street is an absolute must-visit landmark in Halifax. The store itself has an incredible atmosphere: packed wall-to-wall with an expansive selection of back-issue bins, modern floppies, graphic novels, indie titles, and local East Coast creators. It manages to bridge the gap between a welcoming neighborhood shop and a true enthusiast's treasure trove.  Prices are super reasonable.. The highlight of the experience is easily the staff. Getting to chat with Dave, a staple of the shop who also writes and draws his own fantastic indie books (like The Makers) really highlights what makes local comic shops special. Getting a copy of a creator's own work directly from them behind the counter is as cool as it gets.

Providing all your comic/fantasy/sci-fi needs in a wee tiny little shop? That's the model upon which the Strange Adventures' legend was built. There are, of course, some downsides to such a small location. It can be a bit cramped and definitely intimate. If you're incredibly shy, this may not be the best venue for you. The stock is also limited but they can order in pretty much anything you want that's not in store. Still, they have the latest and greatest. Whether you're buying for yourself or getting a gift for someone, staff can help you navigate the geekery and find just what you're looking for. Overall, a great addition to Strange Adventures' line and to Dartmouth.

I did not attend the shindig, but heard the festivities were groovy and schmoozy, with a touch of bop and pop to boot. I took a little jaunt in today to check out this greatly welcomed music shop. The space is stark, more gallery chic though than bland, with chalk walls as a backdrop to midnight hued music stands. The vinyl selection was grand, featuring what seemed to be mainly newbie merch and not vintage/used offerings. There were also tons of CDs of the new and used variety. I sussed out She & Him, The Buzzcocks and Television, as I enjoyed the clean crisp space. Downfall was, that the dude at the counter didn't even acknowledge my friend and I as he yapped away on the tele. A little nod or a hand wave would have been sufficient salutation, but he didn't even muster that - must have been a seriously serious call, maybe Obama or someone like that on the line. There's no sign out front yet, so don't blink or you'll miss it. This shop is hip and happening, but loses a mark for customer service. Maybe next time we'll be able to bump this baby up to a 4.

This hidden gem is Obsolete Records. Located in the North End of Halifax, Obsolete Records is a small open concept shop, decorated in lots of local art . The lay out is super clean and really well organized so it was easy to find what I was looking for. I was really impressed when I walked in to find they carry so much local music .Not only do they carry tons of local 45's but they also have a large selection on and rare records that you may not find anywhere else. My only beef with the place is the staffing. I'm not one to give a bad review however I was the only customer in the shop , was in there for over a half hour and had several records in hand . Not once was I acknowledge or asked if I needed help finding what I was looking for . When I finally asked if they had a copy of a record I've been searching for, the staff behind the counter , who was reading a book acted as if it was a chore to look up the 45 on his data base. I felt that my overall experience with the place would have been far more enjoyable with a simple " Hi, can I help you with anything ? " But I digress ... Overall this place is pretty great and their prices are reasonable. It's definitely a fierce competitor ..let's just hope their customer service amps up so it will be unstoppable !
