I have two bikes that are notoriously difficult to work on. I had been turned away by a couple of other shops and finally one recommended Frank. He got the carb job on the first done for less than half what I expected to pay. The second bike is in the shop now and he's been straight forward with what it needs and his recommendations (we found the fuel tank is rusty). The best advice I can give is be patient. He pretty much works by himself but he is thorough and does the job right the first time. I don't usually trust mechanics and I would rather do the work myself but some things are just beyond my skill level and I will never hesitate to take a bike to Frank. read more

Hmmm, i have inquired about work to this shop twice now for different reasons/bikes. The first inquiry i never got a response. Ended up doing my fork seals myself. The second inquiry i made i did get a short unclear response from frank v. When asked to clarify, no response . I get the impression they are busy enough to not care about getting more business, maybe. Dunno for sure. But right now i dont feel as tho they want my business. Why would a shop advertise insurance rebuilds/repairs as a service but not have tools to check if a frame is straight?? Makes a guy wonder about the shop's competency. read more

1994 XLH883HUG Harley Davidson Sportster aka Azúl: I contacted Monkey Wrench based on positive Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. Firstly, I wrench my bike myself to save money unless I don't have the tools/skills to do it. When I do go to a mechanic for things beyond my skill, I expect the same care as I give my machine and just like a tattoo shop, I look for cleanliness and order. There is no cage so taking care of my horse is paramount to my safety. Now I am very loyal to my mechanics, unless they have disappointed me a couple of times, and this is why I sought out Monkey Wrench. That being said, this is a family business. Frank is the owner/mechanic with his wife sometimes in the office, but it is mostly just him from those times I met him, but I"m sure he has an assistant for big jobs. He has a good size shop with plenty of room and lots of bikes he works on and sells, and it is clean and orderly; no tools all over the place and he has a good stock of shop supplies. There are several bike lifts and he has a back wall with heavy presses and like equipment. You can tell this shop has been invested in. Frank listened as I told him about my bike issues and it was a positive, comfortable conversation. Frank rides, too, so he understands who better knows the sounds and feel of a ride than its master? He made me feel comfortable leaving my ride to his care. Now most people wouldn't know how important this is to someone who wrenches and rides every day, but it is a big deal. In return, I did not pester or keep calling, but waited for him to contact me. I would recommend to anyone to please just leave a message and he will return your calls. There's nothing you can do but wait and leave the man to concentrate on your ride. My clutch spring had grenaded out and broke the cast hub on the primary so I had already purchased a billet Diamond Terminator clutch hub kit prior to contacting Monkey Wrench about trailering my bike over. The primary chain needs to be removed and the hub pressed out and a new one pressed in. Let's just say my bike had a complete clutch system failure from the clutch cable to the clutch spring to the clutch ring inside with brass rivets to the clutch hub. Frank was able to buy the aftermarket cable and get it overnighted for a really low price which he only charged for cost and he had other parts available which he also charged at a lower price than I could at J&P cycles, which I use to buy all my parts. Overall, he did a great job making sure everything was to OEM specs and the clutch feels better than it ever had before it went kaput. He was efficient, fair and honest and I paid a lower price for everything, parts and labor, than I could have hoped for. I told Frank, "Don't take this personally, but I hope I don't see you for a long time! haha!" We both had a good laugh, shook hands, and parted ways. Needless to say, I found my mechanic and I will bring back my business to Monkey Wrench if I ever need it again and I will recommend this shop to anyone who asks me. -Rene read more

I wanted to eliminate the heavy, hot & restrictive exhaust on my BMW RS. After buying an Akrapovic titanium can Frank fabricated a new stainless steel connecting pipe from the header. I'm pretty happy with my experience at Monkey Wrench Cycles. I had apes installed on my bike with internal wiring, and thought they did a nice job. The price was reasonable as well. They also showed integrity, by calling and asking if my front fender had already had a previous nick in it (it did), and offering to fix it if they had done it. My one suggestion would be for them to tour the bike for nicks/scratches beforehand to head off any potential problems. I'd go back for other services. read more

Had a bad stator and verified by Frank whom was very flexible in hours in accepting my motorcycle at his operating hours. He is upfront in what he would do and means to resolve all that entails at hand (notifying me of an oil leak that most likely caused the stator coils to be burned out). The invoice was good and reasonable for the work entailed (my bike is at a full good AC generating able state). I also had a compression test and leak down test. He gave me a good additional perspective to what my options entail. I am definitely going to consider his shop in the future. I like that he gave a considerate cost and timeframe of the work from his end being a small shop owner. I have a Black 06 GSXR 600 and was looking to get my back tire replaced. My tire is pretty common. Bought a 2007 Boulevard C50 a few months back from someone and when I started having little issues like stalling while idle and I felt like there was just a little loss of power I decided to take it in for a tune up, as it also smelled like it was burning rich. Frank quoted me the best price in the area by far for a tune up, so I took it in to get the oil change, spark plugs, etc and happened to mention the idling issue as well. He suggested it get a valve adjustment after going over the bike and while I did have to fork over so more cash it was still very reasonably priced and he made sure it was something I wanted to do before doing it. I gave the OK and expected to pick up my bike the following week. I get a call the next day and he's already done! Which was great cause I was really itching to get back on my bike. Had my friend drop me off and I picked it up, had a chat with Frank, he and his wife are awesome people. Rode my bike home and WOW what a difference that valve adjustment made. I could tell from the get go it was healthier just from the engine sound, and my friend made the same comment. The power I expected was there, and it didn't even come close to stalling while idle like it did before, rpms were smooth and consistent. I took it and let me just say don't let the location fool you at all this man here knows what he's doing. he called me and told me what was wrong he informed me on contributing factors that may be a issue down the road he told me the turnaround time on when it would be done and called me a week ahead of what I thought and told me it was done! this man really does know what he's doing I was super impressed he also looked around for other potential Issues. Just a really bad experience there... I would never go back to this place. I had some carb work and wanted them to set the idle. When they called me to tell me my bike was ready. I had to pay the bill before giving me the bike or allowing me to evaluate the repairs. When I started up the bike It was in the same condition as I had given it to them for repair.. When I started the bike up andgot it home the carbs overflowed. They wanted to blame it on my gas tank having rust in it. My tank doesn't have any rust in it. read more

I had a great experience with Monkey Wrench Cycles. I bought and older bike, a 1997 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, that had been sitting in a garage for several years. They picked up the bike took it in and cleaned the carbs, the tank and replaced the plugs and all the fluids as well. They also replaced the clutch and got me a great deal on 2 new tires. Since picking my bike up I have dropped by the shop a couple of times for some minor questions and the owner, Frank has always been very helpful even showing me how to make some simple repairs myself.
