My fiancée went to Mong to get her hair cut and her hightlight roots touched up. I want to underscore this: she very clearly stated to her Mong stylist that her highlights had been done maybe 3 months earlier and were now showing dark roots, and this is what she wished to have touched up. "Okay, no problem," said her stylist. Well, it was a problem. The Mong stylist had no idea how to do this simple task. She was in an extreme hurry, bam bam bam, and while the haircut was okay, the highlight job was awful. The roots were still just as they had been, but the stylist just laid some new highlights on the top layer of everything, so if my fiancée parts her hair in a slightly different place, the whole thing looks just as it did before: like hair that needs to have the roots touched up. My fiancée called Mong a couple of days later and explained the situation. "Okay, no problem, you make new appointment, we fix for you." This time I went in too. The stylist (who I think is also the owner) looked at my fiancée's botched hair and said, "Nothing wrong with this. Everything look okay to me." We showed her the long dark roots, she said, "No can fix. Google it. Will burn scalp if we do this." Then, when she saw we were not buying that lame excuse (since the highlights had been done all the way to the scalp three months earlier with no ill effects) she switched to a new excuse: "We did this right, but hair grow out this much in one week!" One week?? One week since my fiancée had gotten her hair botched by Mong and THAT much growth?!? ...um, no. They went to all this trouble to avoid taking ten minutes to fix their bad work and in the process, gaining a customer and a good Yelp review. Instead they earned a horrible review. I rated them one star because that is the minimum; if I could I would rate them negative stars. These people have no skill at doing hair, and then when you ask them to fix their mistake, they get angry and snippy. They refused to fix their incompetent mess--which is probably for the best: they probably would have completely destroyed my fiancée's hair altogether. If someone does not know how to do good work, how can you expect to get good work from them? Not going to happen. We just cut our losses and got out of that dump. So do yourself a favor: learn from our misfortune and DO NOT go to Mong. You will be glad you didn't. read more

Went for manicure/pedicure I purchased on Groupon. Ad said spa pedicure but don't be fooled. Was the most minimal and basic service I ever had. No leg or hand massage, creams, etc. Manicure also a joke. I had to point out my cuticles and ask for a nail soak prior to cuticle removal. Worst mani/ pedi I have ever had, don't waste your money. And regular prices I noticed were higher than most salons in Platte or Clay county. read more

In all honesty, Groupons always scare the crap out of me but I took this one to Mong for a drastic hair change. Trish gave me the cutest long bob & both she & Mong were so friendly & fun. I wouldn't hesitate to come back, especially for pedis for myself & my little. A very nice, clean place just a bit off the beaten path but definitely worth the drive. Thanks, ladies. read more

Referred to Mong by a friend, she said it was not fancy but they cut good hair at good price. First time was ok, I was very specific in requested length, angling into jawbone. She started cleaning me up, cutting after less than 10 minutes, about 2 inches below jawbone. I had to stop her from stopping and ask her to cut more, felt as if she were doing me favor. The cut was pretty good tho, grew out not great as I have thick hair which she didn't texturise maybe at all so looked like helmet, but overall felt pretty solid, price was right and location great. Fairly low maintenance gal, needed cut about 6 months later, made appt and she was friendly on phone, seemed promising. Upon arrival with 3 employees and no customers on Saturday @ 11-seems primetime?-she asked if I minded if someone else cut my hair. I said I guess not but I clearly did mind so she acquiesced, sweeping cape on me while she asked what I wanted. We talked for minute, I was trying to find pic on phone, I mentioned wanting to get away from undercutting as I wear hair up often and wanted neater nape, requested she not add to the undercut. She got defensive said it wasn't cut she did(was but not point), kept saying it was baby hair, like prolific baby hair...seemed she wasn't going to wash hair just start cutting so I mentioned and she said yea yea, rushed me over to sink and gave me lamest wash ever leaving my barely wringed hair sopping. As she started cutting i looked down at my cape and saw it was covered with hair that wasn't mine, made joke about and she said oh don't worry that's not your hair. I know. Again cut for less than 10, started drying which takes my hair forever. Finally asked are you going to cut more? Oh yea just drying...k...she did, a little. asked for lob, and my hair is not longer in front, basic element of lob. I'm sure she could do it but just doesn't want to. No worries there. read more

I went cause I saw a Groupon, called and they said not to purchase the Groupon because they make no money off of it. Said I can get the same deal for the same price. They had appointments that same day and so I went. Wish I never did. My hair just needed highlight touch ups to the roots and they managed to color all of my hair red and cover up all the highlights up that was already there. Then put the foils to close to my scalp thus creating a large area on the top middle making it bleed I HAD one big highlight. Then I told them I only wanted layers to frame my face. They then grabbed a chunk of my hair and cut it, I yelled nooooooo I dont want that! It was to late. I had to go get my hair done some where else. My hair turned pink after one wash. I was to be married the following saturday so you can only imagine how upset I was. They refused a refund saying they would fix it but there was no way i would let them touch my hair ever again. read more

I used to get my haircut at Mong Salon for 3 years when I worked and lived in Kansas City acting on the recommendation of a close friend/co-worker. She is so friendly and always gave me a great looking haircut. She easily figured out how to cut my hair after just showing her a photo. She also kept her prices very reasonable and was willing to squeeze me in. I have found a great barber in Boston, but am very appreciative of all the haircuts I got with Mong. So I originally came across this salon on Groupon there was a voucher for haircut, highlight, and style for a reasonable price so before purchasing the voucher i called to see if any appointments were available for that same day, the lady informed me i could come in that day and also asked me not to purchase the groupon because she makes no money instead to come directly to the salon and pay her, i agreed. This was the biggest mistake! At first everything was going okay she placed the foil and it was waiting time, then i waited for the wash and blow dry to see the final out come and what i noticed was a big bleach circle in the middle of my head i let the lady know my concern she quickly got me back to the wash station to place toner, this did not help so another worker stepped in to apply more dye with no improvement either i kept telling them that it did not look okay and she kept replying "it so prettty" "you pay now" so i paid and left ! sadly i had to go to an upscale salon to have it fixed and the lady told me what had happened was the first salon placed the foils to close and so the bleach bled out and created a patch! So i ended up paying double to fix my hair and lost out! So i guess i really learned my lesson you get what you pay for! so i'm writing this as my first review ever to warn future customers, because i did my research and this salon did not have many reviews so hopefully i warn the next victims! read more
