This is a pretty decent spot for cheap food, it's usually my go to for Uber eats and although I wouldn't say it's my favorite Colombian spot, you definitely get what you pay for I usually order the Monchy's burger, today I ordered the chicken avocado wrap and it was good, tasted like a salad pretty much and didn't seem unhealthy I also like their French fries as they are pretty crispy and have a good flavor/ texture I have yet to walk into this business personally but I did go to the one in hackettstown and they were pretty nice over there, I would definitely recommend this place for a decent cheap meal, especially as a late night snack. This place was great. As soon as you walk towards the building you can hear the live singer , singing old romantic classic which set the mood right. As we walked in they greeted me with a warm smile and hello. They checked my temperature with the digital scan. The restrooms were clean and soap and napkins were available. Everyone that saw me greeted me and were pleasant. We ordered a pitcher of passion fruit margarita it was really good , I wish it would've been a little more bubbly but you still tasted the liquor - it was good! I only had a brief lunchtime encounter here. Pros: Very fast - I parked with 19 minutes on the meter and left with 5. They do speak English. Monchy's arepa was SIX STARS. It was crispy, hot, fresh, full of fillings. Game changer in the arepa market. Never had better, can't actually GET any better. I don't know how to endorse it more. Cons: Maduros came out a bit softer than I like, but at least still caramelized on the outside. Girl at the counter took my money and just sort of stood there... I at least expected her to open the register to get change so I could leave a tip. Oh well. Prices are a bit on the high side compared to some other Elizabethan establishments, but not crazy high. I went down to Morris Ave. today to try this Colombian spot, called Monchy's Famous Grill. I was initially attracted to it due to its menu, clean and bright interior, and daily specials they post on Facebook. They have three locations and from what I noticed while there, are extremely popular among the local crowd. Think of it almost as a Colombian Applebees as far as interior, menu, and service. Giant TV's surround the inside with nonstop music videos playing, albeit semi-loudly. The best deal there appears to be ordering their daily special, posted on Facebook, which comes with soup, an entree, and a fruit shake. I opted instead to order a strawberry/pineapple smoothie, cream of mushroom/chicken soup, and "Monchy's Famouse Burger." The fruit shake was awesome, the soup was really good as well. However, I think I may be giving up on Colombian-style burgers. Colombian style burgers are a popular street food defined by their plethora of toppings and sauces, and are usually a quite greasy mess. However, despite knowing this, I was a little disappointed in it. I'm used to Brazilian-style burgers, which are similar, but those are usually well kept together by the bun and are a bit more cohesive. This one basically fell apart after one bite, and the sauce and toppings were a bit overkill. It was topped with ham, mozzarella, bacon, potato stix, coleslaw, and a Russian dressing. It kind of felt like eating a messy Big Mac. The fries were pretty lackluster as well, and even the 3 sauces on the side they gave (wasakaka, pineapple sauce, more Russian dressing) couldn't save it. I may come again if I'm ever near Morris Ave., but I believe there are better options elsewhere. read more

We came upon this restaurant on our way home and chose it based on reviews. Well, the reviews must have been written by the staff and friends because they are quite misleading. I am giving 1 star only because the food was not horrible and Yelp does not allow a no star rating. Let's start with the food... We ordered a Bandeja Paisa, 3 Empanadas, and 1 Arepa con Queso. The bandeja Paisa was a hit and miss - the beans were delicious but the actual streak was dry and tasteless. I've never had to use salt on a steak. The empanadas are not your typical authentic Colombian ones, they are made with flour dough, not corn and filled with different protein options and cheese. Per my husband, they tasted like microwave fare...hangover food, if you will. Wrapping it up with service... There was NONE. ~NONE~ Our food was dropped off at the table, and that's it. Not ONCE did our waitress stop by. We had our 6 year old with us, an extra plate was not offered. I mean, 2 meals come and the child doesn't eat? My husband had to place his empanadas in the basket with the arepa, so that I could serve our son rice and steak on his plate. Aside from the lack of service, the waitress had an unpleasant demeanor (read - stank attitude). I was almost afraid to ask for the check...almost. We couldn't get out of there quick enough. This was our first time eating at a restaurant in Elizabeth. We ordered a variety of things from the bandeja paisa to the quesadillas and every was delicious. I am Colombian and am very picky when it comes to eating at Colombian restaurants in America but this place was as close to authentic Colombian food as you can get in the area. After hearing good reviews and looking at photos on facebook I Finally got to come to this new Colombian spot myself. Starting with the decor, it's nice, clean and modern. The attention we got from the waiters and the owner was very good (very attentive). Once I opened the menu, I was like wow! So many mouth watering options to choose from! Food options from breakfast, sandwiches, salads, deserts and more that made the menu look dynamic!! I got the "Arepa Monchys" and it was very good with perfect seasoning and presentation. Their special lemonades are something unique to try that are very good. I recommend the "Maracuya con Lulo". This place was just recently opened from what I experienced this place is here to stay and compete with other surrounding restaurants. I definitely recommend this place, excellent food and service!!! This place is racist! If you don't speak Spanish, don't even bother coming here. I came with my husband and I'm able to understand and somewhat speak Spanish. My husband was in the mood for ice cream and saw the picture on the outside of their restaurant. When we told the waitress we wanted the one similar to the display in the picture, they didn't have it. So, basically the picture outside is fake advertisement. Since we were already there we figured we order a dessert that they did have. Okay went here for a late lunch around 4pm on a Saturday. The place wasnt packed but it wasnt empty. It is a restaurant/bakery. The Colombian bakery is so good. The restaurant could use some help. The one waitress was rude when we asked for a high chair and our daughter didn't sit there. She sat in a regular chair. She said " all that work for nothing ". I wasnt even that serious. It was us and one other table. First It took 20 minutes to get the mini empanadas and our juice botegas. Then about 30 minutes after that for us to get an arepa and a hamburger. When hubby asked why it was taking so long the waitress responded bc they just opened. I worked many years in the restaurant business and that's never acceptable, when you open you better be ready to serve. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. This place is great! The food in Monchy's is delicious, the portions are generous. The daily special is always different for every day of the month. Great value the daily special. I have not had a bad meal at Monchy's and the waitress's or waiters are attentive. I take offense at one person's review of calling this place racist. These fine people work hard and serve everyone. Get over it, that not everyone has English mastered after being in the US for a short time. Give Monchy's a try, you will need not be disappointed.
