We grabbed drinks at the bar and kinda waited for a table to open up. By the time the musician for the night set up, we were well on our way. You have to order your drinks at the bar, there were a lot of people available for a quick chat while you waited so that was fun!! The musician that night was so good, he played one banger after the next.. everyone in the bar was singing along and dancing! We ordered several rounds of shots and each time we got something different .. that was fun!! We didn't want to leave .. but some of us had early flights out the next day! We didn't have any problems with communication. It helped that they could speak in Spanish and my brother could speak it way better than me. The food was very good. All the flavors were spot on. All plates were wiped out. The ribeye, though, was not that tender. It was flavorful and the temperature was right, but it was quite chewy. So, if there is one dish that we wouldn't recommend, it's the ribeye. Everything else was great. The place is worth coming back to if you want your carnivore cravings to be satisfied.

The two bottles of water came without glasses, we needed to remind the "service" 3 times until they came. It took the shop 1 hour (!) to bring our two sets of potato skins and fried calamari. Quality of the food was good, but one hour?? Other tables left being tired of waiting. Best was the bill: the wine recommended to us and pointed out on the menu was in the end 50% more expensive because they only had the reserva left (remind you of the recommendation given to us). We immensely enouyed our long weekend in Porto and this place was the only let down. Do yourself a favor and go to the Hard Rock Cafe next to it.

Stumbled upon this place last night and find myself relaxing over the River Douro here again…read moretonight. They play some great music (Metalica, Pearl Jam, Eddy Vedder, Pink Floyd accoustic album; impressed!!) Staff is friendly. It's chilly outside in winter but manageable with a scarf and coat and some good company! They serve food but for lunch (see pics) I think this place can be rented out for parties. It's three levela. The bathroom is on the first floor but the third floor patio view of the water is worth everything. Very relaxing!!

A great sangria and a beautiful view of the river and Porto. What's not to like…read more I was wondering around Porto and happened upon this place nestled on the side of a Porto hill (a mountain really). The bar is 3 stories high and I only tried the roof bar as the two lower bars were closed during the day. It was a winter afternoon and just about 18°C which was perfect for a sangria. Ordered a sangria at 4€ and after a minute it was delivered. It's quite an elaborate drink and upon the first sip I exclaimed "good god this sangria is to die for". It seriously the best sangria I've ever had. It had cinnamon sticks and rosemary in it. I'd take another one any day. With the quality of the sangria and the outdoor seating this place has earned my 5 stars. I cannot vouch for the place if it were busier as we were one of 3 tables that day. But afterwards we took a short walk up the hill and strolled around the large park nearby. Definitely would recommend stopping here for a sangria to anyone in the neighborhood.

Ah, the Francesinha. Hard to spell, harder to finish, and even harder to go to Porto without…read moreordering at least one. When you talk about dishes in the city, this is the one that comes up every time. Brasao Alidas is one of the preeminent spots known for them - where you walk in and the server kind of already knows what you're going to order. I was planning on going here anyway, but our Uber driver recommended it for good measure. For those unfamiliar, this is a monstrosity of a sandwich. A pork and steak sandwich is made out of white bread, sliced cheese is placed on top, and a boiling beer and tomato sauce is poured over to melt the cheese and cover everything. Lastly, it's topped with a fried egg. I fear what has just been created cannot be described as easily as viewing a picture will convey. It really is wild. Even though this is a sandwich technically, I don't think a single person in history has ever attempted to eat this with their hands. Where to even start. It should probably with the bread, but you can barely even taste that the bread exists. The cheese is melted thoroughly over the top such that it's mostly what you taste on the outside. On the inside, it's a whole bunch of meat. This sandwich has steak, sausage, cured ham, and pork loin. The steak is actually cooked pretty well inside all of that - it's got a decent sear and a nice medium rare. The pork manages to be pretty solid as well. What I wasn't as much a fan of was the beer/tomato sauce. These two flavors gave a slightly sweet and kind of sour flavor that I didn't really like much. When the sauce is so present it's something you're getting with every bite. I got a full portion, and it was simply way too large. For 18 euros you could easily split one of these between two people. While it's cool in theory, I ultimately don't think this sandwich works for me. For one - there's just way too much going on. You lose half the taste of the ingredients. Secondly, there's no textural contrast - everything just turns out soft, even the meat. Thirdly, the amount of fat is too much - the cheese especially. Overall, it was a cool one-time experience, and I'm sure this restaurant executes the concept of a francesinha well - but I don't think I'll be ordering it again. 7.25/10
