This business advertises as a bar, but it also Sells food albeit with a more limited menu. The alcohol menu here is fairly diverse, but heavily weighted towards wine where there are roughly 15 cocktails to choose from and some beer selections as well. While here I ordered their classic margarita, which was well-made and quite tasty. One minor gripe though is that my drink did not have enough ice but considering that I am in wine country and this is Europe beggars can't be choosers right? Also the size/volume was a bit on the light side as well. Having said that this place was ok from a cocktail perspective where the staff was friendly and views of Porto and the Douro river are great. Rating only as a bar I give this place three stars due to the shortcomings listed above. The better bar is down the street at the Irish Co but unfortunately was closed on this day. That would be my prime recommendation followed by a distant second for this place.

Way too rare even for our usual medium rare taste. We ate it anyway, but would have been better if it had been cooked a bit longer. All the meats and the sauce intermingled surprisingly well and didn't taste too heavy, although I don't know how anyone can eat more than this half order, it is so filling. I think this dish traditionally comes with fries, but here it did not and we ordered fries as a side. I kind of liked it that way, as they were still crunchy. I asked for some ketchup and received the skimpiest 1/3 filled small ramekin. The lemon pie was refreshing and tart. A perfect little dessert to cut the heaviness of the francesinha. Reservations are a very good idea if you can score one, otherwise you'll be in for a wait.

The 360 degree view is stunning with Torre dos Clérigos on one side, University of Porto, and old buildings on the remainder. Kids, dogs, old and young will enjoy this stop. Don't expect to get an especially warm welcome here. After coming here an endless amount of times, I have yet to receive warmth. Thankfully this place is so cool my ego is quick to recover. :) A must do to grab alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks with a view.

Stop by Base on your next trip to Porto!…read more It is located at the top of a hill in the center of a beautifully maintained park right near the famous bookstore. I was so excited to go to Base after doing a ton of research online but as our luck would have it, it poured rain the whole time we were in Porto. They were closed so we didn't get to have a drink here. All of the tables are outdoor so try and hit it on a nice day if you can. Hopefully I can try it someday!

They have a great selection of wines and ports. We started with a ruby port and a Madeira. The service was great and both were very good. They brought out some popcorn as well which was nice. We then had a 20 year tawny port that was excellent. It is a very comfortable place and great for couples or groups. Then we did not eat, but saw them preparing a meat and cheese plate. They put so much care into and it looked fabulous. Definitely worth a visit.
