Once you step inside, you smell the wonderful aromas and you'll find that the older building just adds to the charm of the place. I've tried many of their services, including massage, pedicure, all-over exfoliation and facials. I usually treat myself to a package so that I can be pampered for a couple of hours! The staff are very friendly, caring, responsive, and have excellent product knowledge. They do a thorough job and always make me feel as if I'm the most important customer they have. When I leave the spa, I'm so relaxed and pampered I practically float out of there.

Then when the haircut proceeds, I only feel a few snips, but didn't think anything of it. Stylist starts to style my hair, and I didn't think much of it and gave them full faith. When I got home and put on my glasses, I saw my bangs were TERRIBLE. I went to First Choice to get them fixed, and the stylist there asked me if I had cut my bangs myself! I told her that I had just come from another salon. She inspected the rest of my hair to point out to me that my hair WASN'T EVEN CUT. She fixed me up, thank god. I emailed and called Sound about a refund, and they wanted to get me in to get it fixed--but I had already gotten it fixed somewhere else. They refused to give me a refund and said there was nothing else they could do. Would you go back to a business where the senior staff--who is training other employees--royally ruined your bangs? And I would like to point out, that I paid full price for a haircut that I didn't even get! Lesson learned. Would not recommend. Will never go there again.

She's also extremely tactful and somehow manages to convince me the "straight-across bangs" I want would be hideous for my face shape without making me feel like an idiot. Their soundtrack always rocks. Regina Spektor followed by Fiona Apple? I love it. If anything, their complimentary head massage alone is worth coming for. I'm not kidding, I have to refrain from telling my masseuse to STFU while his/her fingers are delicately rubbing my poor exhausted head so I can completely immerse myself in the moment. If you get your hair dyed, they'll even give you a free foot soak. I've never felt so feminine as I have with feet dipped in hot, fizzing water while hair is wrapped in a towel and flipping through beauty magazines. Gives the illusion of luxury. I also once had a make-up lesson here, and ended up spending a fair chunk of my pay cheque (back when I had a job) on make-up and other goods. That was almost a year ago, and I still have most of the items laying around in good shape. All their products are completely high quality and nature-friendly. Read: expensive, but worth it.

They changed the nice, natural shape to make them thick on the base with an almost vertical line straight up, and the thinnest tails ever. I went back to complain and they tried to fix them but ended up giving me tiny, thin, and SHORT eyebrows instead. It was truly mortifying. I've spent the last year trying to grow them back with no success. I have bald patches everywhere. I've spent hundreds on different brow makeup, I have to draw my brows on every day now (and I HATE makeup). I'm now paying hundreds for microblading to fix this mess. When I called to make the appointment, I encountered the surliest person ever. I was a terrible inconvenience with the talking and the asking for an appointment. Hear the sarcasm? That's the tone I encountered and I was horrified. Appointment booked. Went to spa and it was very clean, lots of products and extremely busy. Same person from phone checked me in. Her mood did not improve with time. Esthetician was very friendly, efficient and particular over her work. I could not fault her at her skill. Unfortunately when I got home, the eye brow wax actually tore skin which has never happened in 15+ years. Otherwise a good job. Check out was ... No how was your experience? No chit chat. Actually took calls when taking my payment. There were 2 people on the desk so I expected something else. It's what I am used to at other spas I have been to visit. Prices were average to above. Will I return? Unfortunately no. When I was asked by family and friends there about my experience, I told them my experience and left them to form their own opinion. They got me a full refund when the stylist turned my hair an odd shade of grey/blue. The stylist: did not do a good job on my hair; she also tested a new product on me she had never used before. She admitted her mistake but had very little time in her schedule to do my hair. She left it limp and flat; no style. It was an awful experience. I really trusted this salon and except for a great front desk, it was a major disapointment.

I just moved back from Alberta last month and I was so excited to have a Newfoundland experience in a salon and spa. The pedicure that I received from the esthetician was so good it was a five. On the other hand my haircut experience was a one. If I could give it a 0 I would because it was such a disappointment. Stylist that I had was very preoccupied with the client that she had before me. Left me a few times. I feel that I was overcharged for my service, I do not feel that the shampoo that I was given was very good and I had a basic haircut. She blew dry my hair and did not flat iron it or didn't even show me the back in the mirror to check to see if I was happy and sent me on my way. I was charged $80 for the service and I don't even know what I got. My husband came to pick me up and was wondering what was wrong with my hair. I give the spa a 5 The salon is zero. Music throughout the hotel is perfect. Exile bar is beautifully executed and the bartenders are just what you want--attentive without being disruptive. Walking distance access to all the bars, music, and restaurants on George Street is icing on the cake.
