Promised breakfast but none was available - Restaurant next door said they were supposed to give coupons or have breakfast at the front office. Door to the room would not accept room key and they had to rebuild the lock and reprogram it to work. Staff did not know about upcoming conferences in their Hotel.

I've stayed here 3 times in the last year. Recently I had stayed here in August 2014 so my review…read moreis based on this last stay. The property is a bit older and some of the rooms have an older feel to it. My last stay I was up on the 4th floor. This is deemed a premium floor and the rooms were noticibly a bit newer and larger. My room was clean and no issues for me. The wifi worked decent ( a bit slower in the peak 7-9 pm night time). The only negative I have is the walls seem quite thin. On a few nights I could almost make out what the guy in the room next to me was saying. He was talking loud but the insulation is not great! The property is decent in my opinion in a very busy city of St John's (a city that could definitely use some more hotels)! It's nice to have the East Side Mario's attached to the hotel but it is a drag that there are virtually no other restaurants within walking distance. On two other nights I made the 2.5 mile walk downtown and took a cab back. It's a good 35-40 min brisk walk to downtown and a $10 cab ride back. The front desk staff is pleasant and courteous. I stay here because options are limited in this town. Also downtown hotels tend to book up fast and some are quite expensive. If you can book in advance especially in the summer as it gets sold out during the key July and august timeframe!

The house has been restored immaculately. A feeling of warmth and coziness envelopes you as soon as you walk in. Our host, communicated wonderfully prior to our stay and greeted us upon arrival. We were handed a parking permit for our vehicle and shown the common areas of the house. We were then brought up to our room, which was beautiful and had everything we needed. Our host made sure we were settled in and gave us his cell number in case we needed anything. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great nights sleep! The highlight for us was breakfast! Hard boiled eggs, cooked to perfection, homemade breakfast cookies, out of the oven, homemade granola, apricot jam, cereal, toast, coffee, orange & Grape fruit juice, cheeses. James, our host always made sure we had everything we needed. The location of the Inn was perfect, surrounded by cafés and shops and a short walking distance to downtown and convention centre. If you're in St John's and looking for a change from hotels, I would highly recommend At Wits Inn! I know we won't stay anywhere else during our next trips to St John's

No bath at for slippery shower, so I asked for one and it was brought. Next day it was removed and not replaced. Mattresses are old and need replacement. Continental breakfast is mediocre. And if you're unlucky enough to get a room on the third floor, you'll find no elevators in the building. For $139 per room per night, not worth it. In response to manager's reply: thank you for taking the time to reply. I tried to be fair in my review. However let whoever reads this review determine for themselves if a 3 floor walk up with a small room, an old mattress, a desk the size of a coffee table, at $139 per night is worth paying for. With the slippery shower and no bathmats, it's also dangerous. I called the lack of a bathmat to the desk clerk's attention once and it was brought. The next day it was gone with no replacement. The day after, the same. As for the breakfast, you are correct that there is variety. More variety than in a real continental breakfast. However the food quality was mediocre, the kitchen extremely cramped, the layout confusing, and the size of the dining room much too small to seat the guests.
