Came to the Holiday Inn for a wedding reception and stayed one night. Overall, it was a better experience than I was expecting.
The space for the reception was nice and big. It was nice to see that the Holiday Inn did not make an attempt to squeeze as many people as possible into a small space. It was easy to navigate the room without bumping into people. I'm assuming that the hotel made the dinner for the reception, but either way the food was good. The Holiday Inn kept the reception space nice and cool - which was great once the dance floor opened up! The table decorations were simple and nice. I'm surprised to catch myself thinking that it would not be the worst thing in the world to have my own wedding reception there whenever that happened to be...
The hotel room I stayed in was nice. The room was clean and spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. It is a pretty standard hotel room. The only unusual thing about this room was that the bathroom was split up. The toilet and bathtub were in one small room and directly across was the sink. I'm not sure why the bathroom was designed this way. I really don't see the advantage, but it wasn't horrible. It is just unusual.
Another unusual aspect of the hotel is that you couldn't access the entire floor - lemme explain - if you and a friend were both on the fourth floor it is entirely possible that you could not walk to their room without going downstairs, crossing the lobby, and entering a different section. I don't know why the hotel was designed this way. I'm sure there is a good reason, or at least I hope there is a good reason. It isn't a deal breaker, but if you are with a group of people and want to have easy access to each other just keep this detail in mind.
The hotel has a Eastside Mario's on the main floor. So you don't have to travel very far for food.
Despite being to St. John's a few times, I am still not familiar with the layout of the city. This Holiday Inn is close to the airport, but I'm not sure how close it is to downtown. Luckily St. John's isn't a huge place so being here and getting downtown won't be a long trek. Anyways, I'm not sure of how close Holiday Inn is to other things like Tim Horton's or the Avalon Mall.
Anyways, I don't think you will be disappointed with this place. If being downtown is important than this location may be an issue. read more
