Yesterday I went with a group of 12 people to Monarca Alta Cocina. I had heard through word-of-mouth that it was good. However the reviews online were either good or bad - no in between, which seemed odd. We decided to give it a try. The food and service was good. The restaurant interior was well kept and comfortable. I liked that it wasn't over decorated like some other Mexican restaurants. It's a great neighborhood place and I will definitely be going back and probably doing takeout as well. read more

Wow wow wow! This place was quite a find. It had been on the list to try for a bit and Saturday was the day to dine. The staff, the servers, the facility... everything was wonderful. The menu is quite diverse and a welcome departure from the #2 platter covered in a sauce with rice and beans on the side. Fantastic!!! We started with a combination appetizer of plantains two ways and what was called empanadas. There was a different spin on them than I was expecting- they were little open pockets of goodness in a warm, recently fried shell. It was a huge serving- thankfully, there were four of us. I ordered a Paloma- it was a delicious and refreshing beverage and my entree- pollo con mole- Which was the perfect serving size and very tender. When you walk into the restaurant, there is a glass dessert case and it is is filled with beautiful items. We split a dessert and it was delicious. No flavor whatsoever in anything I ate. Drinks bland. Food bland. Salsa bland. No seasoning in any of it. Went in mid-afternoon and no one else there. Food came out room temp and the beans were cold and soupy. Not even sure food is kept at the recommended temperatures. Price point is high for Mexican and honestly not worth what is charged. Making the trip from Roswell was worth every mile for our first visit! The food was outstanding across the board, from the margaritas (they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila!) to the fresh, high-quality entrees. Both the quesadilla and chimichanga were delicious. We had high hopes for this old Frankie's location and a good , close Mexican restaurant, but unfortunately that didn't happen. The remodel is nice, the staff was friendly but not particularly efficient. Like other reviews, our food arrived warm, not hot. Chips are a bit soggy. Unlike another review, we considered the queso portion large and paid $8.99 for chips and queso. The salsa is very sweet with no heat. The ground beef has no seasoning and the cheese enchiladas had a slice of cold white cheese in the center not melted. Our bill was north of $40 for two with a coke ($4) and water. While there we saw several tables sit down and get up and leave, perhaps they wanted alcohol, no idea. We will continue to drive the 30 minutes to Magueys at Dallas Hwy and Barrett Parkway. We pay less for similar items, they have a great bar along with bingo, trivia and music entertainment. read more

Really wanted to have a great Mexican restaurant in the area to finally enjoy... but this wasn't it unfortunately. Went on Sunday for lunch. It was not busy, service was subpar the waitress didn't know the difference between the offered margaritas. I ordered Mexican tacos steak. The meat was room temp and ridiculously salty. Tried to cut the salt with lime and hot sauce but didn't help. The entree came with rice and beans and unfortunately the rice was undercooked. Tasted hard pieces in each spoon. For the price, you'd expect great food and service but they missed the mark. Will have to continue to drive 20-30 min out for good authentic Mexican tacos elsewhere read more

The bar was very small and the TV's were in the dining room, not in the bar area. This place has amazing potential for "nights out" and "date nights" with a few updates to the decor. This is the second time trying trying this place The first time was a disaster. So we figured we'll give it Another chance should've listened to the other reviews. First off, nobody greeted us at the door. Manager was on his phone and laptop. We try to get his attention but he was too busy to pay attention to us as we were walking out. Somebody finally came up to us at the front door and asked us if we needed any help so we decided to stay what a disaster just like the first time cheese dip came out cold and seemed that it was from a can. The burrito was cold inside and very saggy like they put it in the microwave to warm it up my wife had chicken tacos, which the chicken was cold as well again try to get the managers attention, but he was too busy. Exceptional!!! I am a original "Sabores" patron. So happy that they have a full service restaurant with deliciously authentic Mexican food. A Mexican restaurant is always rated by their chips and drinks and these hit the mark. I recommend the Hibiscus Margarita with salt and sugar rim. The food is delicious as ever if not more elevated than what I have become accustomed to. Love the ambiance, decor, and staff. Queso was delicious, as were the birria tacos. Huge burrito was smothered in queso- enough for two people but not our favorite. Food was fresh. You can tell they are working out the kinks all around. I will be interested to see how this establishment settles in. My wife and I have enjoyed dinner at Monarca Alta Cocina twice in the past two weeks. Our experiences have been exceptional food with good service and a comfortable ambiance. We have been impressed with the flavors and presentation of all of our plates. Both tilapia and mahi mahi dishes will be enjoyed again in the future. Even the chicken enchiladas, our go to Mexican dish, were the best we have had in a long time. We recommend this restaurant and we do not understand the negative comments others have made here on Yelp. read more

This is a new spot that opened right by our house. We didn't have to wait long especially since it was Valentine's Day, they had live music which was a plus. It is a cozy place which nice ambiance. I am hoping that because it was crowded that the service was lacking. We had to continually flag down someone to bring out appetizers, drinks, napkins and even chips. Our waitress took our food order with the drinks and we waited a good 20 minutes. The food came out first and then our drinks. My drink was wrong and did not taste good. The remake tasted even worse and I did not drink much of it. Our waitress was nice but not attentive because she had two large parties. I'm not sure if they've improved a lot in the last month or some of the other reviews are fake, but almost none of the complaints made were accurate. The interior is very beautifully done, none of the TVs had Fox News on at all (and weren't audible as the speakers were playing a nice Mexican themed playlist). Service was quick, efficient and friendly. The food was very good and good portions for my lunch. The chips were crisp and the salsa was tasty (although I'd prefer a bit more spice to it). My husband and I visited this new restaurant this evening and were very pleased with the food. It was delicious! We shared the steak fajitas. The service was good and the young lady waitress was very attentive. The renovation of this place is amazing! The butterfly theme is beautiful. All of the one star reviews are bogus. I've been at least three times within the past month and have absolutely fallen in love with the style, the atmosphere, and how well the food is prepared. Sometimes the service is a little slower than what I'd like but our drinks always eventually get topped off. They might need to work on that a little bit but I'm always greeted with a smile. I'm glad to have this neighborhood restaurant right down the street. The food was amazing. My tacos were the BEST that I've had at a local Mexican restaurant. I asked for some salsa for the tacos and she brought out some salsa that I'm not used to, instead of regular salsa. OMG!!! I'm so glad she did. It was so good with just the right amount of spice. It was different than the salsa that we had with the chips. The chips that they bring to the table were warm, thin and crispy. Funny story, my only complaint was my drink. I ordered the House Margarita and the waitress repeated it when she wrote it down. When I took a sip, I told the person with me that this isn't the House Margarita. It tasted bland but I couldn't figure out why. It wasn't too much lime, it wasn't too much tequila. Something was just different about it. My only complaint was going to be about the Bartender because I didn't like my drink, but everything else was great. When the ticket came for us to pay, I received the Skinny Margarita and not the House Margarita that I asked for. So, I have no complaints about the Bartender at this time as that did taste like a Skinny. It was the Waitress fault...lol. Tried this restaurant for the first time, but unfortunately we weren't impressed. Beautifully renovated, but a missed opportunity on the lighting. Flourescent lighting lends to a "cheap feel", that does not correspond with the menu pricing. We ordered shrimp fajitas which were barely cooked enough and the rice and beans were nearly cold. We decided to try out this place since it's right down the road from us. Friday night no wait, staff was friendly. The vibes inside were okay, cold lighting and only tables, no booths. We started with chips & salsa, the salsa was GREAT! Very fresh, not much heat. Great flavor. We ordered the chorizo queso, at about 11$ it was underwhelming only because the queso was off!!! I asked what type of cheese for the queso and they said white American, I'm not sure if that's standard queso flavor or maybe it was just the brand of cheese they used. Tasted very artificial. I got the chimichanga and it was really good! My boyfriend got the steak burrito and also really enjoyed it. The rice was good, but the beans were very thin and fell through the fork. Too watery. Other than that everything was decent. To give grace, they are brand new! And I would assume they are relying on our feedback so they can improve in areas that need improvement.
