Today I tried one of their fresh rolls with salad and 'chicken'. I was told it was chicken breast but it turned out to be processed chicken so I wasn't happy. I ended up getting a large lemon tart $28 and a small orange cheesecake $18. The lemon tart was a bit on the sweet side for me, I would pair it with some fresh cream and would have enjoyed it more with a few more strawberries on top as there was only one in the middle. On the plus side, the lemon tart was already enough for 8 people so we didn't even make it to the cheescake. Will update my review after I dig into it. Handy location and the price seems reasonable. I would go back to get their cakes and hope to try some pies next time.

OK, Haiku Tuesday inclinations aside, the presentation of cakes and slices in this patisserie is divine. My coffee partner ordered the vanilla slice, and was very impressed with what she described as a super smooth and creamy custard filling, and crisp, sweet pastry. The woman was impressed, and happy to share her opinion with the world...well, me because I was there, but nonetheless, impressed!! I ordered a coffee, mostly because I was still full from lunch, but also because looking at the food on offer, I was fairly certain that I would be doing well to unearth a vegan treat among the towers and lines of baked cake and pastry goodness, where gold leaf reigned supreme. Admittedly, I didn't ask, but the risk that there may not be something vegan friendly on offer won't stop me from heading back in future just to make sure nothing slipped under my vegan radar. I'm thorough like that, and besides...the coffee was good, and served in a beautiful Degas decorated cup. All in all, an aesthetic feast.

We were pretty full from our lunch, but upon arriving, our bellies were at once again ready to go! I'm more of a fruit tart type of gal, so I went for the Lemon Tart (6.8). The others had the Brownie & Passionfruit Chocolate Gateau (8.6) and the Hazelnut Millefeuille (8.6). We essentially shared our desserts, so I got to try all three! I loved the Lemon Tart, as it was neither too sweet or sour, and I love tart pastries! Although it's difficult to go wrong with a lemon tart - there definitely wasn't any added or artificial flavor that shouldn't have been there. The Hazelnut Millefeuille was also delicious, as it reminded me of a Ferrero Rocher. It was definitely richer, so it was difficult for me to have too much, but puff pastry always does it for me. The brownie cake was also really delicious, and was a good balance of all the flavors, especially with the layer of passionfruit. They do an afternoon coffee and dessert special for $9 that we should have done, but we didn't see it until after! The place actually reminded me a bit of a petit Le Bon Choix in Brisbane, but definitely with better tasting desserts and better service!

On display behind immaculately clean glass were dozens upon dozens of colorful and perfectly delectable French pastries. The Mister Green Tea (what a witty name for a cake) caught my eyes immediately. Absolutely enchanting with perfectly crafted raspberry jam and gold leaf on top of a faint green tea cake, it completely stole my breath away. Upon looking closer, the tiny pastries were made with black sesame sable base and green tea mousse. And as I bit into it, I found the center filled with luscious raspberry cremeux. Everything about it is a testament to perfection and deliciousness! I also got their Matcha Latte, and it was just as sensational as the rest of the desserts. That green tea was light yet rich, slightly bitter to counter the sweetness of the cakes. Beautiful in both presentation and taste! The price may be quite steep for such a small plate of dessert ($9.90) and a cup of latte ($6), but to find a rare gem like this certainly makes up for once in a lifetime experience.

I was brought here by my brother who swear that this is THE place for pies in Melbourne. I'm happy to say it did not disappoint. The shop is perfectly small, with just a couple of seats and one communal table. Noticed that this is more of a grab & go place. They got, however, the homiest ambiance I've ever felt in a pie shop. Not to mention the humble and friendly service. The pies we picked: * Braised beef, red wine & rosemary (best seller!) * Chicken mushroom, tarragon * Pork, Apple and fennel sausage rolls. Strong flavors, flaky-buttery crust and chunky delicious meat... mmm! At $9.50, they are not exactly cheap treats, but these meaty morsels totally hit the spot on Melbourne's gloomy winter day. Best pies in Melbourne. I'm calling it! They have lots of flavours, but I can't go past the beef, rosemary and red wine. Huge chunks of free range steak tumble out with each bite and you won't even need a knife to cut it. They're not the cheapest pies in town, but for good reason. The family pie pushes the $20 mark, but provides 4 good serves of pie. Friends and I once had a pub debate about whether or not family pies were a rip off, because you just got less pastry. The Pure Pie family pies have a huge flakey crust, so there's no arguments about whether or not you have been stitched up here.
