Le Croissant exists since the 1960s and has been an institution.
The food is rich and delicious- no shortcuts, no additives. The recipes are authentically French and are the way they used to be in a French boulangerie-pâtisserie 50 years back.
The original owners sold it a few years back and there were some teething problems- staff that didn't smile at customers, almond croissant filling portion too little, lack of French atmosphere.
However, in the meantime the old recipes survived (the old owners passed on all their recipes- I miss the friendly bonjour in the back with big smiles) and the next generation of customers can enjoy them and the service has improved.
I have been coming on and off to this bakery since the 1990s and I still reckon the almond croissant is the best in town, only served on weekends, made freshly with the cream filling....a special Camberwell tradition.
Do yourself a favour...come early on the weekends to not miss out on the almond croissants.
