She was hilarious, incredibly knowledgeable, and kept us laughing all day with river guide stories and jokes. One of our favorite parts was when Molly pointed out a Padlé Oarefish. We'd never even heard of one before! She explained they're unusually flat fish, most commonly yellow with blue, red, or pink accents, and they're surprisingly well camouflaged along the river. Such a cool thing to learn! She also showed us a rock formation that looked exactly like Winnie the Pooh wearing a beret and breathing fire. Once you see it, you can't unsee it! The wildlife was unbelievable. We saw bighorn sheep, three otters, geese, blue herons (mud flamingos), a baby deer, a fox catching a fish, and a huge eagle nest. Molly said we're officially her lucky group because they usually only see a couple of those animals, and she'd never seen the deer or the fox on a trip before. Lunch was fantastic too! The "conewiches" were surprisingly delicious. We were a little hesitant because we'd never tried Mediterranean food before, but the homemade Mediterranean salad with feta and kettle chips folded into a tortilla absolutely rocked. I'm still wishing I had Molly's recipe! If you're thinking about rafting in Moab, book the Fisher Towers trip with Red River Adventures. If you get Molly as your guide, consider yourself lucky. You'll leave with great memories, sore cheeks from laughing, and probably a newfound appreciation for the rare and majestic Padlé Oarefish. Oh, and I t's officially Hank's Bubble Bath in our book. We got to swim through one of the rapids which was so fun! The rapids were small but fun. Lunch was delicious - curried chicken salad, chickpea salad, and guacamole cones, with Oreos! I highly reccomend this company and this particular trip!

We found that Wild West voyages was very responsive and gave us periodic updates prior to our trip. On the day of our trip Jay picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the Canyonlands needle District. We can't see enough good things about our ghide Jay. He was informative, engaging, friendly, and really funny. We couldn't ask for a better guide. We stopped at various points and did two hikes in Canyonlands Totaling a little over 5 miles. Jay made it a point to keep the pace slow and easy. Wild West Voyages provided snacks, water, and a great lunch. We enjoyed our tour of the needles district so much that we immediately booked a white water rafting trip the following day. We spoke with Catherine at Wild West and she couldn't have been more helpful. She booked us for a rafting tour the very next day. We were pleasantly surprised the rates which we believe to be very reasonable. We recommend Wild West Voyoges to anyone who's thinking about taking a tour in and around Moab.

Everyone was knowledgeable and I learned a lot about the San Juan River, its history, geology and stories about people who lived it. If one doesn't spend much time on a river, they don't think about how it moves and where it goes, what happens when the water level is low, and rocks appear, etc. All of these details are taken into consideration every moment and it made the trip more enjoyable to know that someone was paying attention like this. The weather was with us. Sleeping under the stars for a week is an experience that everyone should have. The first night, Theresa thoughtfully arranged for a lunar eclipse and we watched it from chairs facing the river with the canyon walls beyond. One of the guides had high-powered binoculars which were passed around. It was a wonderful beginning to a perfect week. There was a strong sense of camaraderie among our group and with the guides. Sharing this experience was palpable amongst us. Although we were not pampered (who wants to be pampered on a river trip?) we were well taken care of. Doing some of the work like helping with taking the baggage off the boats and things like that are part of the process that brought us closer together because we were cooperating with each other. Not one cranky word was said in seven days. More kudos for Theresa and her crew. They were true professionals in every sense of the word. And T has a wicked sense of humor to boot (or not to boot).

In Moab Canoe and Raft, I found an outfitter I can trust and respect. Safety is always Kevin's first concern, as it should be, and he takes much care to ensure his clients go out well prepared to take on the wilderness. There is a review on Yelp that complains the Kevin's employee left a group at the river without their PFD's. ONLY A NOVICE NEWBIE WOULD LEAVE TOTAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFETY GEAR WITH ANOTHER PERSON! Mistakes do happen, and the commonly accepted protocol is the one who might pay the price for a mistake, should be the one who does the final check out. THE WILDERNESS IS BY DEFINITION WILD, so be prepared, and take responsibility for your self and your party. NEVER FULLY COUNT ON ANYONE ELSE to ensure your own safety. In part I do agree with that review: "if you use MRCC" OR ANY OTHER OUTFITTER "be sure to check all of your gear before leaving town." AMEN! Kevin dispenses the sort of knowledgeable guidance on outfitting both self-guided and guided trips, choosing routes and gear appropriate to all skill levels and current conditions. Lisa and Kevin set up the sort of trips that so delighted them with this area, that they had to move here to live the life! For these two, outfitting is more than a job, it is a way of sharing a great life on the water. Kevin is also an authorized Wenonah Canoe dealer, arguably among the finest made boats. Clients always go out with the best gear, which makes staying safe and comfortable a tad easier.

From their place to the river, we did one of their raft tours, with 2 other couples we met there, and Josh, our guide. From beginning to end, Josh had a lot of information and history to share with us, and he made everything interesting and fun. He enjoyed answering questions, sharing his knowledge with us, and taking all the pictures we wanted. What a trip. I was…read morethoroughly impressed with our Desolation Canyon trip with Holiday River Expeditions. Going into it, I had very few expectations--I had never done anything like this before--and, if anything, I probably had more concerns than expectations. By the end of six days on the river, most of those concerns had become some of my favorite parts of the experience. First and foremost, our guides, Tristan and Annie, and the group we traveled with made the trip. Tristen and Annie were incredibly well prepared, knowledgeable, friendly, and just genuinely enjoyable people to spend six days with. Early on, they asked us to embrace and respect the river, and in return they showed us just how much the canyon had to offer. There was a great balance of adventure, history, knowledge, humor, and simply slowing down enough to appreciate where we were. I was concerned about being completely disconnected--there was no cell signal for the entire trip--but I quickly came to embrace it. Cutting the cord completely changed the rhythm of my day. No emails, no calls, no notifications. Just the river, the canyon and the people around you. I was concerned about sleeping on the ground. It never exactly became comfortable, but I got used to it enough that I spent several nights sleeping outside under the stars instead of in my tent. Speaking of the stars, I honestly didn't know that many existed. Maybe sleeping on the ground wasn't the reason I had trouble falling asleep--I may have spent too much time staring at the sky. I was concerned about the "Bano." Turns out I've never gone to the bathroom in more beautiful or serene surroundings. And, after all, everybody does it. I was concerned about the food. I shouldn't have been. It was fantastic, and I was continually impressed by what the guides were able to prepare for us in the middle of nowhere. I also spent several days paddling a ducky, which added another level of adventure and was an absolute blast. By the end, six days somehow didn't feel very long. You settle into the rhythm of the river, stop worrying about what time it is, get comfortable being a little dirty, and start appreciating how simple your world has become. What a trip. I would absolutely do it again. And as I've discovered since getting home, nobody warns you how hard it is to spend six days on the river and then go back to sitting behind a desk.
