Did you say you like DONUTS with your coffee or hot tea?Well, I have just the place for you!…read more Bump is located on the Fenton Street side of the library. If you find the Fenton Street library entrance, you've found Bump. Here you will find various teas (ask to be pointed to the menu - it's not on the board), coffees, BAKED GOODIES, sandwiches, and (at least seasonally) CIDER. The baked goodies selection varies from day to day, but I've ALWAYS found DONUTS (sometimes one or two types - today there ware at least 6!! - hard to choose!). The donuts are from a local bakery called WOODMOOR and are always fresh. If you're into VINYL, there are also a few bins of new records. Note that many of the pics posted here are NOT of the current location, but of the former location on East-West Highway. Bon appétit!

The place was a bit difficult to find. So I called the phone number but it wasn't working. Finally…read moreI found it. It was in front of the Silver Spring library in a separate island on its own. It's a bit difficult to describe but if you walk on the Fenton St, you ll see little flags/banners (attached in my pictures). Follow them and go past the railing and the store is on the first floor. It's confusing because the address is 900 Wayne but it is easier to get to from Fenton. They could use a small banner on Wayne. The place itself is okay. The cronuts and bagels were fine. Nothing special. The seating inside was a bit odd. The barista area looked pretty clean though. The service was fast. There wasn't enough variety of food. If you want a quick bagel and coffee, it is okay but otherwise I would pass.

In the DC area, Red Onion is still the best for collectors (the shop sells cheap records, too)…read more Within the past year, I've seen original pressings of the Stooges (Fun House, no less, which is insanely rare), Minutemen (Double Nickels on the Dime, also quite rare), David Bowie, Metallica, Swans, Bill Evans, Curtis Mayfield, The Beastie Boys, The Cure, Townes Van Zandt, Ghostface Killah, Patti Smith, New Order, Big Black, Velvet Underground, Prince, Miles Davis, Mary Lou Williams...I could go on. Sometimes, my brain feels like exploding when I'm here. The shop has strong selections across rock, jazz, soul, hip hop, punk, and country, with a smattering of weirdo avant-garde/experimental/electronic stuff to boot. To keep myself from blowing an entire paycheck on vinyl, I limit visits to Red Onion to about once a month. On one trip not too long ago, I got a beautiful, exceptionally clean original pressing of Maggot Brain for $100. If that sounds like a lot, take a look at what the record commands on Discogs or eBay. Another local record store that shall remain nameless is charging $150 for a slightly warped copy. Josh never overcharges--although he easily could because he's picky and only buys very clean wax (often VG+ and better). It's a testament to Red Onion's extremely high quality that although I live within walking distance to two very good record shops, Joint Custody and Som, I schlep out to West Hyattsville more often than I hit those stores.

Wonderful record shop in a retro building. I love the relaxed vibes in here, and the girl in the…read moreshop was very nice. Interesting selection...a bit on the higher priced side for some things, but I did find some deals. Had some cool stuff I've never seen before. Must check out this gem!

Located in Silver Spring nestled in a cute home-turned-cafe! I lovvveee an Indy bookstore so this…read morewas a gem finding. Diego was super helpful and allowed me to take my time. He offered me coffee and gave me the history of the bookstore. He even took his time to grind me a bag of coffee!!! Not to mention Chardai personally reached out to me on status of book swag that I was looking for! That follow up and follow through really matters! Amazing staff! The book selection is phenomenal and even had the new Kennedy Ryan release available! The books are categorized by genre which makes it easy for shopping. They have vinyls for sale In the front of the store and in their back area. In the back is this super cute grandmas basement type setup with vintage couch seating, walls of crates of vinyls, a DJ booth AND a vinyl listening station that allows you to sample the vinyls. How cool is that?! They also have cute trinkets available such as stickers, greeting cards and pins. They even have one-of-a-kind coffee table books! And the coffee?!? WOW! A cup of coffee and your favorite book for less than $20?! Absolutely! And as you're walking out, check out the flyer at the back of the door as they have authors and other events posted! Outside has a small seating area and a clearance book section to check out. So go grab a book, a cup of coffee and enjoy a beautiful Maryland day at one their outside tables ( once it's warm lol) I can't wait to go back! Such a great bookstore!

I discovered Loyalty through bookstagram and the top lists for bookstores in the nation's capital…read more While this isn't the flagship store, it was certainly an experience! It's easy to visit a bookstore and find all the feature books to be by the same people: James Patterson, Colleen Hoover, and Taylor Jenkins Reid. That's great, but what about other authors and genres?? I saw not one of the previously mentioned books (and I loved it), but instead authors and titles I'd never heard of. I ended up purchasing two titles I knew nothing about. They say never judge books by the cover? Why not? If they're beautiful, then buy them. That's what I did, and I loved both books! The selection was incredible, and certain books had blurbs written by the staff to help with your decision-making. This store has so much to offer for a variety of audiences. Give it a try next time you're in Silver Spring.
